Update: "The Ancient Dogoo Girl" - An Instant Internet Sensation

Can a busty girl in a bikini replace Ultraman in the hearts of Japanese fanboys?

Erika Yazawa, a well endowed 18-year-old model, is set to star in "The Ancient Dogoo Girl", a brand-new Japanese television series, that from the trailer, looks like part "Ultraman", part "Cutie Honey" and part "Robo-Geisha".

It's not too surprising that the series looks a little like "Robo-Geisha", because the visual effects for the series is being handled by Tsuyoshi Kazuno, who also handled the visuals the over-the-top film.

The series episodes will be directed by a real 'who's-who' of Japanese independent films, including Noboru Iguchi (The Machine Girl), who wrote and directed the first episode, Takashi Shimizu (Ju-on) and Ryuta Miyake (Ju-on: Shiroi Rojo).

"The Ancient Dogoo Girl" follows the story of a ten thousand year old girl who is resurrected to fight evil. During her heroic exploits, Dogoo Girl falls in love with a socially withdrawn teenager named Makoto(played by actress Masataka Kubota). Together with the aide of a small ancient creature called the Dogū, from which she draws her power, the busty heroine fights a plethora of imaginative aliens and baddies.

It should be pointed out that the Dogū are small Japanese idols made of clay that depict humanoid and animal characters. This would explain why all of Dogoo Girls weapons and clothing are made from clay.

It should also be noted that it has often been theorised that the Dogū figures actually depict visitors from other planets that may have landed in Japan centuries ago.(See The Photo At The Bottom Of This Article)

"The Ancient Dogoo Girl" follows a long-running trend in Japanese manga, anime and movies that favor sexy young female heroes. Films like "Cutie Honey", "OneeChanbara" and "Samurai Princess" have been big hits over the past decade, and it is certain that the makers of this series hope to that the success will transfer over to the small screen.

Let's be honest, as long as you have a girl with big boobs in a little bikini fighting monsters, Japanese men will certainly be tuning in.

Here is the trailer and another photo for "The Ancient Dogoo Girl":
