Mr Lobo And Conrad Brooks Cast In Plan 9 From Outer Space Remake

Sources: Avery Guerra / Imdb / Plan9movie.com

The cast for the upcoming remake, of what many consider to be the worst film ever made, "Plan 9 From Outer Space" has been announced and it is a virtual "whos-who" of modern B movie films. Topping the list is Conrad Brooks, the sole surviving member of the original film's cast. A plesent surprise is the news that Eric Lobo, aka Mr. Lobo from TV's Cinema Insomnia, who is a friend of Monster Island News, has been cast as "Criswell". Also included in the cast are "scream queens" Brinke Stevens, Monique Dupree and newcomer Caitlin Hill.

Here is a synopsis from the film's website:

In 1959, a film was released that would live in the minds and hearts of science fiction and horror fans for years to come. That film was Edward D. Wood, Jr.'s magnum opus, "Plan 9 From Outer Space", a story about aliens re-animating the dead in order to kill Earth's population. Though widely regarded as one of the worst films ever made, genre audiences could not resist the exuberance and love for the art of filmmaking that showed in Wood's work, and the movie has become a cherished cult classic that still survives on home video and in midnight screenings across the world.

Now, in time to coincide with the 50th anniversary of "Plan 9 From Outer Space", director John Johnson – along with his production company, Darkstone Entertainment – is poised to remake the classic film. Simply titled "Plan 9", the remake will be a serious-minded retelling of the original story, paying homage to the spirit of Wood's film without resorting to camp or parody. The film will focus on the horror and science fiction aspects of the original, but will also be largely character-driven. Johnson's goal for "Plan 9" is to make a film that honors not only the original source material, but also Ed Wood's intentions when he made "Plan 9 From Outer Space". Wood's plan was to make a very scary sci-fi/horror film, and Johnson wishes to do exactly that – create a film that Wood would have enjoyed, or perhaps even made himself, if not bound by the technological limitations placed on filmmakers 50 years ago.

"Plan 9" is being made with the blessing and participation of Conrad Brooks, the sole surviving member of the original film's cast and crew. To go as a sister project to the remake, director Johnson and actor Brooks plan to do a commentary for the original film with a Q + A retrospective for its 2 disc DVD release with no set street date at the moment, however the new film is scheduled to premiere on September 9, 2009 (09.09.09).

“Even if Eddie was a little off in his filmmaking skills, you cannot deny his passion. I feel a strong camaraderie for the man and his work, and hope that I can make a film that would be as loved by audiences today as the original was for his generation…Only this time with its true intention.” -John Johnson

The Chosen One - Great Animation That May Have Slipped Under The Radar

Sources: Indican Pictures / Avery Guerra

Lou Hanske's having one hell of a day....he's lost his job, totaled his car, and been attacked by a bear. Just when it seems like life can't get any worse, Lou is informed by the eccentric Church of Frank that he's "The Chosen One" — the savior from prophecy who must travel to Kansas, speak to God and deliver the world into a new age. Together with his elderly roommate Zeb (Chris Sarandon), his best friend Donna (Danielle Fishel) and Lucifer himself (Tim Curry), Lou (Chad Fifer) must master his budding super-powers to overcome Ninjas, Thugs, Femme Fatales (Traci Lords), Religious Zealots (Lance Henriksen), his obsession with his SciFi star ex-girlfriend (Laura Prepon), Giant Monsters and a Posse of Kung Fu Robots in order to fulfill his destiny!

THE CHOSEN ONE is a true labor of love. Animated almost entirely by director Chris Lackey in his Santa Monica apartment, the movie was created as a truly independent film alternative to the big, multi-million dollar studio animated movies. Writers Chris Lackey and Chad Fifer approached producer Andreas Olavarria with an idea for an original, thought-provoking, comedic animated movie to be completed using a simple style of Flash Animation. The team committed to completing the independent film "by any means necessary" and brought aboard the tremendous voice talents of Tim Curry, Traci Lords, Chris Sarandon, Laura Prepon, Danielle Fishel, Debra Wilson & Lance Henriksen (among others). Despite the very rocky road familiar to all makers of independent films, the team forged ahead to complete what they hope is a truly unique, entertaining movie experience.

Simon Pegg has gone to great lengths to convince Star Trek fans that he is right man to step into the shoes of James Doohan. The British actor has even gone as far as to make his performance as "Scotty" a cinematic tribute to the late actor to whom he holds the highest respect. In an interesting bit of fate, Doohan's son Christopher plays an officer on the Starship Enterprise in the new film, and Pegg admits he spent hours grilling him for information about late father. Pegg explains how working with the son of the man who made the role he is playing an international icon helped him emensly, "I wanted to make it a tribute to him (Doohan). Sci Fi Is Set To Take Viewers On A Quest To Find The Worlds Greatest Artifacts

Source: NBC / Universal

The SCI FI Channel has greenlit production on the new investigative adventure series RelicQuest (working title), hosted by documentary filmmaker Bruce Burgess, it was announced today by Dave Howe, President, SCI FI Channel. With a 6-episode commitment and production slated to begin in October, the one-hour show will premiere in early '09.

RelicQuest is an action and adventure series that travels the globe in search of some of history's greatest relics and artifacts. British filmmaker Bruce Burgess guides the viewer in a first-hand exploration down mysterious roads to uncover objects fabled to hold hidden powers and mystical significance for both ancient and modern cultures. Utilizing worldwide contacts and exclusive access to restricted sites, RelicQuest promises to be the action-packed thrill ride through the world's most interesting sites, as you have never seen them.

"'RelicQuest' fits perfectly with the kind of investigative reality programming viewers enjoy on SCI FI proven by the success of our original series 'Destination Truth'," said Dave Howe. "It explores the mysticism and mythology of legendary artifacts rooted in real history and set in fascinating locales."

"I've always had a passion for tackling tough subjects and investigating mysteries, and I have spent my career traveling the globe tracking down new evidence. RelicQuest will be a professor-free zone. Instead we'll be talking to the locals, the people on the ground at these ancient sites—the smugglers, the traders, the tomb raiders, and the antiquities dealers," says Bruce Burgess.

Traveling to Cairo, Egypt, Burgess attempts to solve the riddle of who Moses really was and to unravel the true story of what happened on Mount Sinai. Burgess will also go to the ruins of Montsegur Castle, to investigate the Holy Grail of the Cathars, a small cup that was said to have enormous healing and spiritual powers. Other journeys will take viewers to Amman, Jordan on the trail of the Armageddon Priscillian Codex, a sought-after document said to be a prophecy for the alleged "end times."

RelicQuest is produced by Bluebook Films for SCI FI. It is executive produced by Bruce Burgess and Rene Barnett. Esther Reyes serves as co-executive producer.

Wanna Know How To Fix The US Economy? I Have The Answer!

Written By: Ken Hulsey

Now that the Senate has voted down the $700 billion bail-out plan to help save the American economy, I have better idea how that money could be used to stimulate spending and put everything back on coarse. Take that money and give it to the American consumer. You heard that right! give it to the people instead of giving it to big business! According to some numbers I've heard being tossed about, that would end up being something around $300 thousand per taxpayer. I know that if I got that kind of money, I would use it to buy a house and pay off my dept. If everyone did this, then the housing market would boom again, and businesses would see a sharp increase in sales and profits......problem solved right!

Despite what the "fat-cats" in Washington think, the only real way to stimulate an economy is to get people spending again, not by lining the pockets of "big-business"

I know this is an over-simplified solution to a complex problem, but I think it would work. I doubt anyone in government would have the smarts or balls to put such a plan into action.

***Added Bonus****

Americans who in jeopardy of loosing their homes would now be able to keep them and pay them off!

****Added Bonus****

The plan would allow the Federal Government, plus the State and Local Government, to get an almost immediate payback on some of the funds through sales and property taxes. This tax money is crucial to the well-being of states like California and others who are working under a deficit and are planning to take more tax money out of your pocket to offset these negative balances. (A plan that will hinder the economy even more...) The Federal Government could even be allowed to take a smaller than standard amount out for income taxes. There should be a cap on this however to keep the money in the hands of the taxpayer, or else the plan wouldn't work.

As it stands right now, the government is gambling that they will be able to get their money back from the bail-out from the very same type of investments that caused most lending institutions to go belly-up.

When It Comes To The Presidential Election The Only Celebrity You Should Listen To Is Chuck Norris!!

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: WENN

As the presidential race heads into the "home stretch" more and more celebrity knuckle-heads seem to be flocking to the side of Barack Obama like moths to a flame. Yet, it seems one famous person has had the balls to stand up for Republican candidate John McCain. Who could be so brave? Who could stand up for right, when so many are against him? Who could have the stones to stand up for his beliefs and the preservation of the American way of life? Chuck Norris, that's who!

Norris recently told an interviewer, "My choice would be John McCain and Sarah Palin mainly because, with Sarah, I think she'd make a good president because she's a no-nonsense gal and she has much more experience than Barack Obama.

"Europe now is not infatuated with (Democrat candidate) Barack Obama anymore. They are infatuated with Sarah Palin."

Meanwhile, Walker, Texas Ranger star Norris urges those keen to vote for Obama to look beyond the politician's charisma.

He tells U.S. TV show Extra, "I like his personality and he's a very charismatic guy. I think he has the country at heart, but I think he's misdirected... and because of his misdirection, he's going to lead us down a very deep hole if he gets elected."

But, despite his interest in politics, Norris insists you'll never find his name on a ballot: "I would never run for office. I had tough skin as an entertainer. I don't think my skin is tough enough as a politician."

Finally! A celebrity that isn't talking out of their ass!

Of course it would stand to reason that most celebrities would back a Democratic candidate, only someone who makes as much money as they do can afford the higher taxes needed to fund all the parties "feel-good" programs.

Ron Perlman (The Mutant Chronicles), Selma Blair (Legally Blonde), Doug Jones (Fantastic 4:Rise of the Silver Surfer) and Jeffrey Tambor (“Arrested Development”) reprise their roles from the groundbreaking first Hellboy film, joined by Luke Goss (Deep Winter) as Nuada, a renegade elvish prince, and more than 30 startling new creatures drawn from del Toro’s untamed imagination. Based on characters created by Mike Mignola for Dark Horse Comics, Hellboy has become one of the most successful independent comic books of all time, bursting with outlandish creatures, over-the-top action and unexpectedly comedic moments.

After an ancient truce existing between humankind and the invisible realm of the fantastic is broken, hell on Earth is ready to erupt. A ruthless leader who treads the world above and the one below defies his bloodline and awakens an unstoppable army of creatures. Now, it’s up to the planet’s toughest, roughest superhero to battle the merciless dictator and his marauders. He may be red. He may be horned. He may be misunderstood. But when you need the job done right, it’s time to call in Hellboy (Ron Perlman). Along with his expanding team in the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development—pyrokinetic girlfriend Liz (Selma Blair), aquatic empath Abe (Doug Jones) and protoplasmic mystic Johann—the BPRD will travel between the surface strata and the unseen magical one, where creatures of fantasy become corporeal. Fans Are Given A Rare Chance To Visit The Sets Of Doctor Who, Torchwood, And Sarah Jane

Source: BBC

Fans of smash-hit shows Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures are being offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go behind the scenes at the studios where the shows are filmed.

On Saturday and Sunday, 8 and 9 November, the BBC will be opening the studio doors just outside Cardiff to 100 lucky competition winners and their friends and families.

The money-can't-buy-experience is being run to help raise money for this year's BBC Children in Need appeal.

Doctor Who: Backstage will take fans to the heart of the action at the BBC Wales studios.

Visitors will tour the closely-guarded sets, come face-to-face with some of the Doctor's mortal enemies, and meet the behind-the-scenes teams who make it all happen – including the set designers, costumiers and make-up artists.

Russell T Davies says: "This is so exciting – giving fans the opportunity to take a behind the scenes look at where we film Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures is just brilliant.

"It'll be the perfect opportunity for the whole family to experience something unique and truly extraordinary. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience – and the best thing is that all the money raised will go towards BBC Children in Need."

To be in with a chance of winning a place on the tour, all people have to do is answer one multiple-choice question.

The all-important question will be announced on Friday 26 September, live on the Chris Moyles show on BBC Radio 1 and on BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio Cymru.

It will also be available on the Doctor Who website – bbc.co.uk/doctorwho – along with the full terms and conditions.

The competition phone lines will be open from 8am on Friday 26 September 2008. Callers must be over 16 and have the bill-payers' permission. Each winner will be able to bring up to three guests who must all be aged five or over.

The tour is taking place during a brief gap in the production schedule.

Doctor Who will return to BBC One this Christmas in The Next Doctor and filming resumes early in 2009 on a number of specials, followed by series five.

BBC Children in Need's aim is to positively change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

The 2008 BBC Children in Need television show is on Friday 14 November.

This year's fundraising theme is "Do Something Different" and in the weeks and months leading up to the televised appeal people are being encouraged to get creative and take up the challenge.

For inspiration there are lots of fantastic ideas in the new fundraising pack – go to bbc.co.uk/pudsey or call 0345 607 3333.

Requested Video Post: Robot Taekwon V Causes Havoc At The Gas Station

Earlier this week I found a very humorous Korean TV commercial that featured Robot Taekwon V attempting to squeeze through a toll booth. After posting that video I was contacted by reader, Dai Raion, who mentioned that there was an even funnier commercial featuring the giant robot at a gas station. I took some time to look for the clip with no avail, until this morning I was contacted by Dai Raion again with the location of the video.

This time around a gas station patron begins filming a couple of hotties who are on location as part of a promotion. One of the models gets really angry at the man who was filming the pair and begins a verbal and physical argument with him. Suddenly Robot Taekwon V shows up and begins searching the gas station for something. An attendant tries to give the huge robot a fill-up, but that isn't what it wants. In a surprise move the mech uses its robot-punch to steal a small electronic device, which looks like a radar detector, from the car of the man who was filming the ladies earlier. Well at least that's what I think is going on.....my Korean is a bit rusty....okay, I don't know any Korean, so I guessed. It's a funny clip regardless.....enjoy!

Mike Robinson Talks About The Effects For The New Monster Film Sacrifice

By: Mike Robinson
Source: From an e-mail sent to Avery Guerra

Bob Nelson forwarded an e-mail from our very own Avery Guerra to his effects man, Mike Robinson, about some questions he had about his latest monster movie project entitled, "Sacrifice." This is what Mr. Robinson had to say about the project:

"At the start I wanted to mention that things are still very fluid and therefore subject to change. Having said that, here are some answers to at least a few of the questions.

Although admitedly time consuming, to make the most realistic picture the effects that will be used are going to be almost, if not completely, all CGI. We presently have our own dedicated systems of suitable capacity. The software that we presently posess will be of some use to the production of the effects and the creation of the creature, however more capable software will be procured in the near future. We are anticipating that the proceeds from the sale of the chapters will be sufficient to acquire additional computers and software to augment what we have. We are looking at commercial items that have been used to make larger budget films, but at a bargain price as they have technically been superceded by more recent software advances.

Use of green-screen will play a fairly prominent role in the creation of some of the scenes and their surroundings. Again, a believable creature and realistic visual effects is the goal.

There will only be the one creature, which, for the sake of prudence, will not be "unveiled" for a couple of reasons: we still have yet to digitally render it; we have our 2D image of what it will look like, however it has not been made into a 3D digital image and might still undergo some minor modifications before this all rolls out. We also want to maintain a sense of suspense and anticipation, although (if we release a trailer) it's possible that some quick glimpses of its body in shadow or through NVD's could be used."

Disney Is Banking That Tomorrowland Will Be As Big A Cash Cow As Pirates

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Variety

The Mouse Factory is banking on the idea that if a movie based on one of their Disneyland attractions can be a hit, so can a movie based on an entire section of the park. Presently the studio is developing a space-fantasy -adventure film based on "Tomorrowland." You know the section of Disneyland with "Star Tours", Space Mountain", and of course "Red Rockett's Pizza Port."

The studio is also banking that "Tomorrowland" star, ex-wrestler turned family movie actor, Dwayne Johnson, (The Rock) will be as charming and charismatic as Johnny Depp. Johnson, who starred in the hit movie "The Game Plan" and most recently completed "Race to Witch Mountain" must have been able to rely on his recent family movie success enough to convince The Mouse's executives that he was the right guy for the main role in what might be a successful movie franchise.

Disney denies that the film, which is being written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, has even been titled "Tomorrowland" or will even be dedicated to the park’s section, a futuristic area of the Magic Kingdom, which means it more than likely will be exactly what the film will be based on.

Lego Celebrates 30th Anniversary With Little Plastic Celebrities

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: BBC / Various

Lego has decided to capitalize on celebrity fame to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their line of miniature plastic "Lego People." The Danish based toy manufacturer who has built an empire on little plastic bricks, has designed several of these UK and International celebrity miniatures with the likenesses of such paparazzi favorites as, Madonna, David and Victoria Beckham, Amy Winehouse, The Judges from the UK series X Factor, and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt (with adopted little ones!).

Unfortunately for Lego collectors and celebrity obsessed nut-jobs, these little people won't be for sale to the general public.

Hey, at least these little plastic celebrites won't have to spend time in rehab, or force their crazy political views on us. Actually now that you mention it, I like the Lego versions better. Any chance of replacing the real deal with the plastic ones? Would anyone notice?!

Standing a tad over 9-inches tall, she's quite a sizable young lady and would make a huge contribution to your collection!

Hold on to your butts giant robot fans around the world, because we have two, count em, two brand new videos for you featuring Korea's greatest defender, and Mazinger clone, "Robot Taekwon V". The first features some great test animation shots, for a live-action film adaptaion of the hugely popular series that first aired in Korea back in 1976 after fans went ga-ga for the Japanese animed robot feature, "Mazinger." This brand new movie is being directed by Won Shin-yeon of "Seven Days and A Bloody Aria" fame. The production is being handled by Shin Cine (My Sassy Girl), and the budget is estimated at 20 billion Korean Won (over 20 million USD). CGI and visual effects are done by a consortium of Korean VFX companies, including Macrograph , Mofac, Insight Visual, DTI (Digital Tetra Inc.) , and EON Digital Films.

I think its safe to say that this new version of "Taekwon V" will never be mistaken for the Japanese "Mazinger Z!"

Our second vid is of a great Korean TV spot featuring the giant robot walking down the highway, and for some reason, crawling under a set of signs and trying to squeeze through a toll station. I guess you really got yo know Korean to get the drift of this one, but it is a great clip none-the-less.

Hideaki Ito To Star In 252 Survivor Confirmed

Reportedly the film takes place in Tokyo after the city has been destroyed by a massive typhoon. Ito, who plays the role of a rescue worker, told the press, “I was so moved by the idea of self-sacrifice by rescue workers. During filming, we got dirty with dust and clay. And we suffered a lot of injuries on the set. It was really tough.” "252" is scheduled for theatrical release in Japan, December 6th.

The name of the film comes from a communication code used by Tokyo firefighters, meaning “survivors.”

Sexy Nicole Kidman Set To Become Action Star

Written By: Ken Hulsey

The BBC is reporting that Nicole Kidman has signed on to both produce and star in the 20th Century Fox production, "The Eighth Wonder", an action adventure based on an actual archaeological discovery. This not the first time that Kidman has been tapped for an action role of this type. She was originally slated to star in the 2005 action comedy, "Mr and Mrs Smith", which was written by Simon Kinberg, who will be lending his writing skills to "The Eighth Wonder" as well.

It is not too uncommon for so-called beauties to be turned into action stars. Fans may remember that Gena Davis did a lot of "bad ass" stunts in the 90's, starring in "The Long Kiss Goodnight" and "Cutthroat Island". Now I doubt that we will see the stunning Miss Kidman blasting people with a machine gun, chirping out out one-liners like "Asta la vista baby". It is more likely that her role in "Wonder" will be similar to Nicolas Cage's character in "National Treasure." Although putting Kidman in a bikini with a really big gun would probably fill more seats.

Kidman may not be typical action star, but as long as they keep casting her in films, they will keep getting my eight dollars.

Viz To Release The High Octane Mercenary Manga Black Lagoon

Source: MediaLab

VIZ Media has announced the exciting North American debut of BLACK LAGOON, a manga (graphic novel) series by Rei Hiroe about a misfit group of mercenaries and their adventures on the high seas of Southeast Asia. BLACK LAGOON is available now from the VIZ Media imprint and is rated “M” for Mature audiences. It carries an MSRP of $12.99 U.S./$15.00 CAN.

Readers will lock ‘n’ load with Dutch the Boss, Benny the Mechanic, Revy Two Hand, and Rock as they seek adventure and fortune aboard their World War II-era torpedo boat, the Black Lagoon. In the treacherous underworld of the Russian Mafia, Chinese triads, Colombian drug cartels, crazed assassins, and ruthless mercenaries, it's hard to know who to trust. But if you've got a delivery to make, and you don't mind a little property damage along the way, you can count on the crew of the Black Lagoon! The action kicks off from the very first page as Rokuro Okajima, an average Japanese salaryman, is taken hostage by the crew during a mission to transport a computer disk with insider information that could bring down a major industrial conglomerate. But when Rokuro is sold out by his employer, he decides to join the Black Lagoon crew, who nickname him Rock and throw him headfirst into a deadly world of outlaw heroes, brutal villains, and blazing gunfights. Where he ends up is anyone's guess, but one thing is for certain – he's in for a wild ride!

Creator/artist Rei Hiroe debuted his first manga series in 1993. His most notable work, BLACK LAGOON, has been published in Shogakukan's monthly magazine Sunday GX since 2002. The series is critically acclaimed for its unrelenting, fast-paced action, gritty stories and highly detailed array of weaponry and military hardware. Based on the success of the manga in Japan, BLACK LAGOON was also developed into a blockbuster animated series that has produced two seasons in Japan to date.

“BLACK LAGOON is a fast-paced, gun-slinging action adventure in the tradition of Pulp Fiction and The Transporter,” says Mike Montesa, Editor, VIZ Media. “Readers will delight in the accurately depicted arsenal of weaponry and hard-boiled characters including the tough-as-nails Revy Two Hand, who is probably the sexiest femme fatale to ever pick up a Gepard anti-tank rife. With their modified PT boat, the Black Lagoon crew will deliver anything anywhere, no questions asked – so long as the price is right. We invite readers to delve into this shady and exciting world of double-dealing gangsters and ruthless criminals who will use any means necessary to try and stop this rag-tag group of well-armed mercenaries from fulfilling their dangerous missions.”

Russell T Davies Chimes In On Who Should Be Doctor Who

Source: BBC News

Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies has suggested who he thinks should replace David Tennant as the next Time Lord.

In e-mails serialised in The Times newspaper, Davies said Russell Tovey, who appeared in Alan Bennett's play The History Boys, would fit the role.

The creator, who leaves the show next year as lead writer and executive producer, said he thought Tovey was "going to be huge" and is "amazing".

Davies also revealed he had wanted JK Rowling to star in a Christmas special.

However, Tennant had not responded well to the suggestion.

"David doesn't like the JK idea, he thinks it sounds like a spoof, so we've paused slightly, wondering whether to win him round or just abandon something that he's not going to be happy with," Davies said.

Tovey, 26, had a part in last year's Christmas Doctor Who special as Midshipman Frame.

He is best known for his role as Rudge, the least intellectual of the boys in the stage and screen versions of The History Boys.

Doctor Who Movie News!

The new writer of Doctor Who says he would not object to the hit TV series being made into a film.

Steven Moffat, who has replaced Russell T Davies at the helm, said it would be good to see the show at cinemas as long as it was "great and fantastic".

But he stressed any filming should not get in the way of making the series.

He also revealed Steven Spielberg was a Doctor Who fan and that Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson had one of ex-Doctor Sylvester McCoy's outfits.

Moffat is taking over from Davies, who revived Doctor Who in 2005, as the lead writer and executive producer for the fifth series of the show - due to be shown on BBC1 in spring 2010.

Asked at the Edinburgh International Television Festival whether he would like to see the series become a film, he said: "I'm not against it. I don't think it's the most important thing for Doctor Who.

"A movie is one 90 minutes a year. So yes, so long as it never gets in the way of the show. If it gets in the way of the show that's appalling.

"It's been in the cinema, with Peter Cushing. It would be good to see it in the cinema so long as it's great and fantastic."

Moffat has already written some of the most memorable Doctor Who episodes of recent times including Blink, of series three - which featured terrifying weeping angels - for which he picked up the best writer Bafta earlier this year.

He was previously known for the landmark ITV children's drama Press Gang and Coupling, the award-winning sitcom he created and wrote for BBC2.

Moffat went on to rule out introducing an older Doctor Who, if and when David Tennant leaves the show.

"It's a practical issue. This is a show that's hard for even the young, super-fit David Tennant to keep up with. It might kill someone over 60," he said.

"If the Doctor turned into an old man you would be a bit pissed off. Even William Hartnell [the first doctor] had trouble back then, he was often ill and forgot his lines.

"I think he'll always probably tend to be around 40."

Writer Davies will remain in charge of four Doctor Who specials to be shown in 2009.

Torchwood - The Complete Second Season

The following are included in the second season of Torchwood: repeated bouts of unrequited love, homicidal ex-lovers, monsters from space and impending doom for major characters. Now, that's how a series' second season should play out! But what makes Russell T. (Doctor Who) Davies' sophomore set of adventure for Torchwood so engaging is that he bundles them together in a tight and cohesive package that remains dramatically involving while maintaining the proper level of science fiction adventure. John Barrowman's Captain Jack Harkness is back, having materialized in the final episode of Doctor Who's third series ("Last of the Time Lords"), and with him comes one of the show's most inventive characters: fellow Time Agent and former lover Captain John Hart, played by Buffy the Vampire Slayer's James Marsters. Hart wreaks considerable havoc in the series opener, "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," and returns several episodes later in "Fragments" to reveal Harkness' long lost brother Gray, who brings the series to a close in "Exit Wounds" with a horrific rash of violence that rends the Torchwood team permanently asunder. It's a finale that will leave fans agape by the final frame, but it's not the only stunner in the second season. "Reset" should also raise eyebrows with both the introduction of Doctor Who companion Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) in a three-episode arc, but also the shocking death and resurrection of a Torchwood member. Other highlights include "From Out of the Rain," which introduces one of the series' most intriguing villains, the Ghostmaker, and the alien "Adam," who throws the team into chaos with his power to suggest false memories. But the season's key storyline is the conflict between Jack, his brother Gray, and Captain Hart, which brings emotional heat and weight to the show's complex science and fantasy elements. Extras include all 13 episodes of Torchwood Declassified, the 10-minute companion series which explores elements of each episode, as well as "The Life and Deaths of Captain Jack Harkness," a 22-minute featurette (narrated by Freema Agyeman) about the character's immortal status that includes comments by Barrowman and Davies. Nine minutes of amusing outtakes and 18 minutes of deleted scenes bring this satisfying set to a close.

Speed Racer (Widescreen Edition)

An over-the-top, sensory overload experience determined to replicate its frantic, television-anime origins, Speed Racer is wild enough to induce a headache or wow a viewer with one dazzling effect after another. Adapted for the big screen as a live-action feature, Speed Racer is written and directed by Larry and Andy Wachowski, the sibling team behind the intensely satisfying The Matrix and its busier, less interesting sequels. Where the rich mythmaking of The Matrix was entirely accessible, however, Speed Racer's overwhelming and gratuitously complicated story exposition is an enormous challenge to follow, let alone embrace. After a while, one simply surrenders to the unbroken din of dialogue concerning corporate chicanery, corruption in the sport of racing, and a value conflict between racing as a family business versus multinational cash cow. At the same time, the film's hyper-real equivalent of the old Speed Racer cartoon's great whoosh of color, motion, and edgy production design--such as inventive uses of scene-changing wipes, bold framing, shifting perspectives--are more overbearing than fun.

Emile Hirsch plays Speed Racer, younger brother of a deceased racing legend, Rex, and son of car designer Pops (John Goodman). The latter invented Speed's Mach 5, and is singularly unimpressed by an offer from a giant conglomerate that would lock Speed into exclusive racing services. Speed opts instead for family loyalty, incurring the wrath of the conglomerate's unctuous head (Roger Allam). With family honor on the line and the affections of girlfriend Trixie (Christina Ricci) behind him, Speed hits the track in hopes of fulfilling his destiny as a master racer. The cast is largely enjoyable, including Susan Sarandon as Speed's mom, Matthew Fox as mysterious Racer X, and a pair of chimps as the irrepressible Chim-Chim. All well and good, but in a movie that lives or dies by the excitement level of races that look like computer-animated Hot Wheels action, Speed Racer is a dreary adventure.

Duckman - Seasons One & Two

Duckman is an animated sitcom created by Everett Peck and developed by Peck, Jeff Reno and Ron Osborn, based on characters created by Peck in his Dark Horse comic.

The series follows the adventures of a lascivious private detective duck who lives with his family and sister-in-law Bernice (his late wife's identical twin). Duckman's wife, Beatrice, died before the show began. The tagline of the show, seen in the opening credits, is "Private Dick/Family Man." (Dick being short for Detective, as well as serving as a double entendre)

The series takes place in Los Angeles, as indicated by the episode "Bev Takes A Holiday" when Beverly's detective tells her "here is the address in LA" when referring to Duckman's address.

Risky Business (Deluxe Edition)

Little did Tom Cruise know that he would become a box-office superstar after he cranked up some Bob Seeger and played air guitar in his underwear. But there's more to this 1983 hit than the arrival of a hot young star. Making a stylish debut, writer-director Paul Brickman crafted a subtle satire of crass materialism wrapped in an irresistible plot about a crafty high schooler named Joel (Cruise) who goes into risky business with the beguiling prostitute Lana (Rebecca De Mornay) while his parents are out of town. Joel turns his affluent Chicago-suburb home into a lucrative bordello and forms a steamy personal and professional partnership with Lana, but only as long as the two can avoid the vengeful pimp Guido (Joe Pantoliano) and keep their customers happy. A signature film of the 1980s, Risky Business still holds up thanks to Cruise's effortless charm and the movie's timeless appeal as an adolescent male fantasy.

Their eyes may be glued to the screen, but all eyes will be on the eight competitors who will participate in the Netflix Movie Watching World Championship: The Quest for the Popcorn Bowl. Hosted by Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX), the world’s largest online movie rental service, the grueling movie watching marathon will begin on October 2nd in New York’s Times Square and is expected to last until a new Guinness World Record®, for most consecutive hours spent watching movies, is set five days later on October 7th.

At stake is the undeniable notoriety associated with holding the title of world champion, a $10,000 cash prize, a lifetime subscription to Netflix and the first-ever Popcorn Bowl trophy.

Featuring some of the world’s most accomplished endurance enthusiasts, the Netflix Movie Watching World Championship challenges contestants to watch a continuous run of movies in an effort to eclipse the existing world record of 120 hours and 23 minutes held by Ashish Sharma of Mathura, India. Mr. Sharma will be on hand to defend his title. Netflix will also give everyday people a chance to participate by inviting the submission of video auditions at http://www.facebook.com/ (keyword search: Netflix Movie Watching World Championship). Additional information, including contest rules and other mesmerizing tidbits, can also be found there.

The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. Eastern time with competitors assuming their positions in the Netflix Movie Watching Arena, a plexi-glass living room in the center of New York ’s Times Square . Gawkers and passersby will have ample opportunity to cheer on or watch in wonderment as each competitor creatively and, towards the finale, desperately attempts to stave off sleep.

“The Netflix Movie Watching World Championship is a showcase for die-hard movie buffs who possess incredible focus and discipline,” said Leslie Kilgore, chief marketing officer for Netflix. “It combines the love of movies with the thrill of competition at the crossroads of the world.”

Said Mr. Sharma, the brash, current Guinness World Record holder: “I am the one who is going to win and India will retain this world record. I will put the fire in the heart of my competitors.”

The field of movie watchers includes record holders, as well as rookies to marathon movie watching. The competitors include:
Mr. Sharma, who watched movies for 120 hours and 23 minutes in June in Mathura , India , and is traveling to New York for the event.
Former three-time movie marathon record holder Claudia Wavra of Germany who will attempt to reclaim the title she lost to Mr. Sharma in June.

Suresh Joachim, a Canadian of Sri Lankan descent, who holds 32 Guinness World Records. Mr. Joachim is an endurance champion whose records include television viewing (69 hours, 48 minutes), dancing (100 hours), radio dj-ing (120 hours), and ironing (55 hours, 5 minutes), among other disciplines.

Cheryl Jones of Portland , Ore. who was a part of the team of Netflix members who broke the Guinness World Record for continuous movie watching in 2003.

Dallas movie buff Jeff Jones who won $250,000 on the movie edition of the popular game show series “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” in 2007.

New York-based competitive eating champion, Crazy Legs Conti, who also happens to be a cinephile with a penchant for ‘80s films, will join the ranks of endurance enthusiasts for a shot at the title.

Guinness World Records rules require the contestants to watch films non-stop without averting their eyes from the screen. Competitors will be given 10 minutes between each movie, or approximately every two hours, to refresh themselves. Eating, drinking, standing and stretching are allowed as long as eyes are on the screen.

Gourmet, chef crafted popcorn will be provided by Dale and Thomas Popcorn (http://www.daleandthomas.com/) throughout the event. Medical professionals will monitor the contestants’ conditions throughout the event and assess if contestants are truly “watching” or are simply staring blankly at the screen.

RocknRolla - The London You Haven't Seen

Source: Warner Bros

For Guy Ritchie, the action and intrigue of "RocknRolla" is a mirror of the material changes taking place in his home city of London, where glass, steel and concrete have been superimposed over the historic streets and structures, adding a glossy new layer to the city, while not completely blotting out the old. "'RocknRolla' is really about the consequences of London becoming an international phenomenon," he remarks. "London is in the middle of the world in the sense that it's often the last place you go on your way to America, and it's the first place you arrive before you get to Europe."

As Eastern Bloc nations have gained capital and influence in recent decades, the infusion of Russian and Eastern European businessmen into the city's real estate market has had a dramatic effect on the cityscape. "They have completely changed the rules of business," Ritchie notes. "If they want something, they don't haggle the price; they double the price. The competition was completely stumped because how do you deal with that? The rules of engagement have changed. London is evolving constantly, and you can see that in the buildings that are going up. It's a thriving metropolis now."

For cinematographer David Higgs, shooting the city as it is today was a key aspect of Ritchie's vision for the film. "Since Guy made 'Lock, Stock...' the East End of London has completely changed," he says. "It's now trendy; it's not grimy and grim any more. It's much more ritzy and ostentatious."

But just as London is being reinvented, Ritchie wanted to shoot the city in a way it hadn't been seen on film, which presented a challenge to his key crew. "It became a question of finding those bits of the city that were brand new and in the process of being rebuilt, and focusing on them," says production designer Richard Bridgland. "Guy was looking for spaces that had a grand scale to them. So, we looked for locations that had a kind of grandeur and giant open spaces around them."

"Compared with shooting in most American cities, London is difficult," adds producer Steve Clark-Hall. "In America, the roads are all parallel and ordered. Here, the roads go every which way and traffic is very difficult to maneuver around London. There were a lot of logistical challenges, but the plus side is the city itself: the buildings, the images, the interesting architectural shapes that you get in London."

With the city featuring so prominently in the story, the filmmakers had to not only negotiate London's tricky infrastructure but also use every resource at hand to gain permission to shoot in some of the city's most iconic landmarks. Those landmarks include the imposing Battersea Power Station, built in the 1930s by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott and soon to be redeveloped; the Fruit and Wool Exchange in the City of London, which looks out over the Swiss Re Tower (the so-called Gherkin) and the Nat West Tower; West India Dock Pier, sandwiched between the Millennium Dome and Canary Wharf, with its sleek, ultra-modern high-rise office complexes; and the 1960s modernism of the Barbican Centre.

"Guy was very insistent on representing a very specific London that is new and changing and being modernized rather than the old, Victorian image of the city we see so often in films," says location manager Claire Tovey. "We achieved a nice mix between the ultra-modern of Wembley and the Gherkin and that sense of change and constant evolution you see in the Battersea Power Station redevelopment."

For the place where Russian investor Uri does business with Lenny Cole, Ritchie and his team found the right space in the stunning new Wembley Stadium with its highly visible arch. "You couldn't imagine Uri having a small office in a regular office building or anything," explains Bridgland. "So we went straight to Wembley Arena and put in his office overlooking the field. You could just imagine a property magnate like him owning a perch like that. Wembley was one of the places that we were particularly excited about filming in because it has these big, grand spaces and a wonderful cinematic quality."

"Wembley was quite a coup," adds Tovey, "because we were the first film crew to use it. It required a lot of persistence to secure it, but I think they just got sick of us in the end and relented," she laughs.

Battersea Power Station is a structure made world famous by its appearance on an album cover by the band Pink Floyd. Bridgland and his team were able to convert some of the cavernous interior spaces into various sets for the production, including the spieler, the haunt of the Wild Bunch. The production designer did a little underground research of his own to create the space. "We had to surreptitiously find out what they looked like. It's a private place for them, away from the police, so we tried to recreate that atmosphere."

Battersea Power Station also provided a vast old turbine hall, filled with old machinery, where Lenny Cole takes informants to find out what they know. "Battersea gave us some real scale, and the turbine hall was just a wonderful location," Bridgland says. "It was 3 or 4 stories high, filled with all sorts of old, rustic metal, and it was just an amazing place to film."

Another key location was Middlesex Hospital. "Middlesex Hospital is quite a London landmark," Bridgland describes. "It has been there for a hundred years and has been derelict for a few years now, so we took over quite a few rooms in there and changed them around. We had half a dozen locations in that place. We just used various rooms and spaces and then decorated them to suit what we needed."

Bridgland and his crew transformed the interior of the old hospital into a crack house, a library space, and even Lenny Cole's posh office. "We created the crack house location, which looked like this old, diseased building, and then, with a few partitions put up the library," he recalls. "And then a week later, the unit all turned up again and we turned it into Lenny's office at his home, which is a smartly paneled house full of equestrian paintings and all this fine furniture."

For Uri's yacht and the Councillor's office, it was crucial to find backdrops that were new and modern. Canary Wharf provided the ideal setting for Uri's yacht and the Barbican Centre housed the Councillor's office. "Since Guy's vision is to show the London you haven't seen before, we wanted to update the image of the local authorities in London, and the Barbican Centre is such a spectacular building, built in the '60s," Bridgland enthuses. "It's got this real 'Dr. No' quality about it, with all the lights in the ceiling and everything. It has a fantastic look and we had to do very little to it. We changed the signage, but basically just dressed it as an office, and it turned out great."

Gerard Butler, who lived in London for years, was delighted to not only return to the city but also get a taste of Guy Ritchie's particular take on the city. "I was quite excited to come back and do a movie in London, especially with Guy, who is seen by many as the ultimate authority on modern London and its culture and humor," he says. "Guy has a great visual style for mixing the modern and the ancient, putting it all together, and filling it up with character."

Hamilton has also recently collaborated with Perth based band End of Fashion on their second album "Book of Lies"

The Presets are signed to Sydney record label Modular Recordings, home of The Avalanches, Cut Copy and Wolfmother. The Presets are set to go on tours in 2008 around the UK and the US. They have gained increasing amounts of publicity around the US and UK, are gaining popularity around the globe.

The Presets released their first EP "Blow Up" in 2003. It was fairly popular and started out The Presets' career. As a follow up to that EP they released another EP, named "Girl and the Sea" in 2004. Around that time the Presets got small gigs around nightclubs etc.

Due to great critic response, The Presets released their Debut Album, "Beams" on the 20th of May 2005 and was a huge success. To further promote the duo, they decided to release a single named "Are You The One?", which was a great success in the dance scene. After that, The Presets toured around the UK and the US for 3 years, promoting their band. While in the UK, Kim and Jules released "Down Down Down" and "I Go Hard, I Go Home" in 2006 but they were only available in the United Kingdom. The tour was another success.

Towards the end of the Tour, The Presets released another UK only Single, named "Truth & Lies". It featured two songs, which were averagely popular, but majorly successful. Towards the end of 2007, The Presets released "My People" which was huge in Australia and then eventually in the UK and US. Due to the good response to it, they released their second album, Apocalypso which was on the iTunes number 1 spot for weeks and months in Australia and was huge. It is still currently on the top 10 list and is number 1 on the Electronic genre of music albums. In May 2008, The Presets released an EP, Single and a All Remixed Edition for "This Boy's In Love" which the song of the same name was still becoming used and played on the radio before its release on a Single/EP. As of May, The Presets are still on their UK and US tour and have released their third single from "Apocalypso", Single/Ep "Talk Like That".

Will You Pay $35 For A Movie Ticket? Some Morons Think You Will

Written By: Ken Hulsey

Now there are bad ideas, and then there are really bad ideas. One of the worst possible ideas to arise during the terrible economic times that we are facing here in America has got to be Village Roadshow Ltd's idea for a chain of luxury movie theatres that will charge a whopping $35 a ticket. That's right $35 a head to see a movie.

Okay...I know what you are thinking, $35 a pop, what's the catch?

These new cinemas will feature suede-covered reclining armchairs, and each theater will seat no more than 40 people. Moviegoers can sip fine wine and dine on gourmet food including $15 Duck Tacos and Tuna Tartare, prepared on the premises, though you will pay more for that. Yes, that's right, the food and beverages are extra! Now check this out, personal attendants clad in black uniforms can be summoned with the press of a button to serve you or get a blanket for you if you are feeling sleepy.

Great, I get my own butler at the movies, but $35 dollars a seat?

To get a better feel for where the people at Village Roadshows head is at (maybe up somewhere) check out this great quote from Rob Goldberg, the companies chief operating officer, "It's an affordable luxury. Some people may not think of an international vacation this year, but they still want to go out and have a good time."

I don't know about you, but I will probably never ever say to my wife, "hey honey, you know I don't think that we can afford that trip to London.....so lets go to the movies instead...."

It appears that Village Roadshow believes that there is a market for this kind of "movie experience", but lets be honest, the numbers just don't jive. It is pretty common knowledge that the movie industry has been in decline for the past decade or so, due to the popularity of home video games, DVD rentals and sales, and of course rising ticket prices at theaters. Ad a declining economy to that and you have a recipe for disaster.

Regardless of common sense, three of these new "Village Roadshow Gold Class Cinemas" will be built here in Southern California by the end of 2009, including one at the former Guasti Winery in Ontario, which is being redeveloped into a retail, office and residential district. Cinemas are also planned for Costa Mesa and Pasadena.

Good luck fellas!

Brazil's CSS release their follow-up to 2006's "Cansei de Ser Sexy" ("I got tired of being sexy"). They've toured worldwide a number of times with the likes of Gwen Stefani, Ladytron, Klaxons, and Diplo, and played festivals from Coachella, Pitchfork, and Virgin to Reading, Benicassim, Roskilde, and beyond. "Donkey" is tough, street-ready, and recreates the frenetic energy of their live shows. Equal parts dance party, urban circus, and out-and-out chaos.

Cansei de Ser Sexy (pronounced [kɐ̃'seɪ dʒɪ ser 'sɛksɪ], literally "got tired of being sexy" in Brazilian Portuguese), better known worldwide as CSS, is a Brazilian band from São Paulo. Their songs have an electro/rock sound, and are sung in both English and Portuguese; their lyrics mostly concern pop culture.

CSS formed in September 2003, consisting of a group of friends. Their name was taken from a reported quote by Beyoncé, who allegedly declared that she was "tired of being sexy"

The band first achieved notoriety through the Internet. Some of its members, like Adriano Cintra, had been previously known in São Paulo's underground club scene, but not outside of the local alternative subculture. Others, like Lovefoxxx, were owners of popular fotolog and flickr pages. Their collective band fotolog also gained popularity and their songs were frequently downloaded from Trama Virtual's website (a Brazilian website loosely similar to MySpace Music). Trama Virtual invested heavily in the band, inviting a series of Brazilian and British journalists to report on them. Articles were printed in several Brazilian magazines and the British newspaper The Guardian, whose reporter, Peter Culshaw, was invited to see the band playing just before their signing for the debut, at a club in São Paulo. He predicted that they "could be the biggest band ever to come out of South America". Several songs by CSS were featured in mainstream media: "Meeting Paris Hilton" was featured in the Latin American broadcasting of The Simple Life, "Superafim" was used in the Brazilian version of the Big Brother reality show, and "Computer Heat" was used in the South American version of the game The Sims 2: Nightlife, including a version in Simlish. Still without a record deal, they released two independent EPs in 2004, and played that year at TIM Festival.

"Rat Is Dead (Rage)", the first single to be taken from their second album was made available as a free download from the CSS website in April 2008. The band's second album Donkey, was released on July 21, 2008 with first single proper, "Left Behind", preceding it earlier in the month.
