It seems that no one can escape the lure of Ed Wood's infamous film, "Plan 9 From Outer Space." Presently there are two, count em, two remakes of the film in production and Blue Water Comics has come up with their own sequel to the film, in comic book form entitled, "Plan 9 From Outer Space Strikes Again."
One really has to wonder what the mystique is with "Plan 9?" Pretty much everyone concedes that the film is one of the worst over produced, yet the fandom has lasted til present day. If you really want to see just how much influence Ed wood has had on the universe, then you need only visit "The Church of Ed Wood", founded by Reverend Steve to find out. Sometimes fandom can reach a spiritual level, but that still doesn't explain the fascination with "Plan 9."
Maybe I just don't get it.
Then again, maybe I do. It is one thing to make a bad movie, anyone can do that, but it takes someone special to make a really bad one. Besides, bad movies are more fun to watch than serious ones these days.
Anyway, back to the comic book. "Plan 9 From Outer Space Strikes Again" takes the events of the original film and moves them to present day. What kind of world would there be if the events in the movie really happened?
Here's the synopsis:
Rated one of the worst films ever, Bluewater & Legend Films tell the story of what happens after the film. Fifty years after the alien invasion unleashed the unspeakable horror of Plan 9, a corrupt team of government scientists reactivate the zombie horde in order to lure the aliens back to Earth! Their sinister plan: steal the most hideous weapon known to intergalactic intelligence. Only conspiracy theorist, Eugene, and his mother, a former professional wrestler, can expose the shadowy agenda of the government as they fight off the growing zombie horde. This time, a new alien force invades Earth: the revolutionary followers of the martyred Eros. Eugene and his mother join forces with the last remaining heroes of a corrupt government. Together, they must thwart Plan 9 once again, with all life in the universe hanging in the balance.
Overall the comic is very well illustrated and the story really follows the feel of an Ed Wood film, that is to say that seems to be intentionally written in B-movie style, which is perfect for this comic.
If you are a fan of the original "Plan 9" then I think that you will really like "Plan 9 From Outer Space Strikes Again."
Don't get your hopes up however, the comic is a one shot, and as of this time Blue Water doesn't have plans for a continuing series.........yet.
