100. GIANT RABBITS Night of the Lepus, also known as Rabbits, is a 1972 American science fiction horror film based on the 1964 science fiction novel The Year of the Angry Rabbit. Released theatrically on October 4, 1972, it focuses on a group of people in a small Arizona town battling thousands of mutated, carnivorous killer rabbits. The film was the first science fiction work for both producer A.C. Lyles and director William F. Claxton, who both came from Western film backgrounds. Various character actors from Westerns the pair had worked on were brought in to star in the film, including Stuart Whitman, Janet Leigh, Rory Calhoun, and DeForest Kelley. Shot in Arizona, Night of the Lepus used domestic rabbits filmed against miniature models and actors dressed in rabbit costumes for the various attack scenes. Before its release, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) renamed the film from its original name of Rabbits, and avoided including rabbits in most promotional materials to try to keep the m

The Klingon Opera "u" Set To Premiere Here On Earth

Written By: Ken Hulsey Sources: Wired / Official "u'' Website You just knew that this was going to happen, someone has composed a 'Klingon' opera. I'm certain that there are many of you out there that believe that some people just take this whole "Star Trek" thing just way too far, and if you are one of them, then this story should just make you shake your head. If you are one of us, and by "us" I mean people who love "Star Trek", and believe that you can never have too much of it, then this should put a smile on your face. Indeed, a group of composers in the Netherlands, lead by Floris Schönfeld, Eef van Breen and Xavier van Wersch, are about to put on the first 'true' Klingon opera, complete with traditional instruments (never before seen here on Earth), costumes and songs. The show is simply titled "u", which stands for 'universe' and, of course, the entire performance will be in Klingonese, so

Source: BBC (Press Release) The BBC and Steven Moffat have announced today that the transmission of the next series of Doctor Who, in 2011, will be split into two blocks, transmitting in spring and autumn. The split transmission is the result of a request from Steven Moffat to write a new Doctor Who story arc which involves a big plot twist in the middle of the series. By splitting the series Moffat plans to give viewers one of the most exciting Doctor Who cliffhangers and plot twists ever, leaving them waiting, on the edge of their seats, until the autumn to find out what happens. Articles Collected By: Ken Hulsey Sources: Various NT's latest UFO sighting at the Doo‎ NTNews.com.au A SOUTHERN UFO-logist has finally seen his first UFO after 30 years of searching - and he had to come to the Northern Territory for the "ominous" experience. Erik Black has been interested in UFOs since he was a child, but the 49-year-old from Brisbane had only heard stories, read books and watched movies about Unidentified Flying Objects in the sky, without ever getting to see "a real one" himself - until 2010 election night. "I have been researching UFOs for almost all my life and every time I came to the Territory for holidays I read a UFO story in the newspaper, so I thought the NT was the place to be. "I got in touch with UFO-spotter Alan Ferguson and he gave me a few places to go and have a look." James Cameron Had To Apologize To H. R. Giger Over ALIENS

Image
Written By: Ken Hulsey Source: Letters of Note Yesterday I posted a story featuring a memo from Paramount about actors that the studio was considering for "Star Trek: The Next Generation" that I found on a wonderful blog called " Letters of Note ". Today, I decided to 'browse' the site once more, and I can across a real gem from James Cameron, where the film maker eats a real slice of 'humble pie' in regards to his use of H.R. Giger's creation in the hit film "Aliens". It seems that Cameron figured that since Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox had used the artist's creation in the classic scifi/horror film "Alien" that he wouldn't have to worry about a copyright issues when it came to making any potential sequels. That, however, wasn't the case, at least in Giger's eyes anyway. It seems that the artist was a bit 'bent-out-of-shape' by the fact that Cameron didn't inform him that he was going

The Third Reich Meets Monsters In Gary Kurtz's PANZER 88

Image
Written By: Ken Hulsey Sources: io 9 / Comic Book Movie Film maker Gary Kurtz hasn't worked on an sci fi film since the late 80s, but he is set to take a seat behind the camera once again for the film "Panzer 88", a movie which many are describing as "Band of Brothers" meets " Hellboy ". As most of you know, Kurtz became a household name in the 70s and 80s for his work on both "Star Wars" and "Empire Strikes Back", a feud with George Lucas prevented him from continuing to work on the series, and the producers career seemed to fade soon after. Possibly soured by the movie biz, Kurtz only worked on one film, "The Steal", during the 1990s and only again resurfaced during the later part of this decade with a couple more projects, the television film "The Tale of Jack Frost", the television series "Friends and Heroes" and the feature film "77". Now, however, the film maker is stacking hi
