Ghostbusters 3 moving ahead without Harold Ramis

Image
From Digital Spy Ghostbusters 3 will continue to move ahead following the death of Harold Ramis. The script for the film is being reworked after the actor and writer passed away this week at the age of 69. Ramis was due to reprise his role as Egon Spengler in Sony Pictures' film. Director Ivan Reitman is scheduled to meet with Sony bosses about the future of the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Ramis was said to only have a small role in the sequel, which will apparently centre around a new team of Ghostbusters. Dan Aykroyd remains attached to the project. Ramis held a stake in the third film alongside Reitman, Aykroyd and Bill Murray, which will pass to his estate. The progress on the Ghostbusters 3 script means that the film will not begin shooting in 2014. Ron Moore Would Love To Take Star Trek Back To Television

Image
From The Escapist J.J. Abrams has done big things with the Star Trek movie franchise but its roots are firmly in television. It's a more intimate medium that requires a focus on characters and story rather than bombastic effects, which is really what Star Trek does best. Ron Moore, the guy who masterminded the hit Battlestar Galactica reboot of a few years ago, knows a thing or two about it, too. "I think the features are good and I really admire what J.J. Abrams has done with the last two films - I think it's great - but the heart and soul of that franchise demands a return to television," he told Digital Spy. "The TV shows were morality plays, they were more thematic, they were examining society in different ways. Sometimes the stakes were just one crew member's life, sometimes the stakes were just one alien world or the Enterprise. You could do a story that was just about Data (Brent Spiner) or a story that was just about McCoy (DeForest Kelley) or

Farscape movie in the works, confirms original series writer

Image
From Digital Spy Farscape could return for a new movie, writer Justin Monjo has claimed. Monjo - who penned 14 episodes of the sci-fi drama - told If.com.au that he is writing a follow-up film. The Farscape movie would be set several years after 2004 mini-series The Peacekeeper Wars and would follow the 19-year-old son of John Crichton (Ben Browder) and Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black). Possessing special powers that make him a target for villainous aliens, the film's young lead would rejoin his parents aboard their spaceship after years hiding out on Earth. Monjo claimed that the spinoff will be shot in Australia and directed by Brian Henson of Jim Henson Productions - exec producer on the original series. Last year, Farscape co-creator Rockne S O'Bannon insisted that a new movie was "not out of the question". "We continue to talk about it," O'Bannon confirmed in April. "I would love to go and revisit that world. READ MORE

Meet Empire's Godzilla Subscriber Cover

Image
From Empire Magazine You know what's cooler than our new Godzilla subscribers cover? No, we can't think of anything either. Like a penguin in a blender, it's black and white and red all over, and gives you some idea of the mayhem we can expect from Gareth Edward's monster movie. As you might guess from that Rising Sun-esque background, the film has one foot in Godzilla's traditional Japanese stomping ground, but this monster has a passport and will travel - as those choppers might suggest. The film boasts an accomplished human cast, including Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and David Straithairn, but it's the main man himself who required most care and attention from the director. "Trying to get the face right was the main thing," says Edwards. "I guess he's got more of a bear's face, or a dog's. We also used eagle. There's a lot of nobility in an eagle. It made him feel very majestic and noble."

Pop-culture love stories: The healing power of 'Trek'

Image
From USA Today In my senior year of high school, I fell in love hard with a tall raven-eyed beauty whom to my teenaged eyes seemed perfection. She was commonly regarded as the hottest girl in the senior class; what left me gobsmacked was that she was also an artsy geek who eschewed the cheerleading squad for painting oils in my school's art room. And, somewhat to my amazement, she dug me, too. It was a pretty torrid affair as those things go, and it lasted for several blissful months until she dropped the inevitable curtain and left me just before Christmas. I was devastated and certain my life was totally over at 17. Then Star Trek (the original series) happened. I was aware of the show, already long in reruns, but had never watched it particularly closely. That Saturday morning after The Dumping, I stumbled upon an episode which seemed to be speaking directly to me: City on the Edge of Forever, a classic story about love and loss in which poor Captain Kirk is forced to

New Godzilla Poster Reveals One Enormous Monster!

Source: Warner Bros Legendary Pictures / Warner Bros released their latest poster for "Godzilla" and if the scale in the image is to be believed, this G will dwarf all of it's predecessor's by a wide margin. The new poster shows the backside of Godzilla as he towers over the city of San Francisco. Of course the Godzilla that we will see in the actual film won't be this huge.  From what we have seen from the teaser trailer Godzilla looks to be about 400 feet long, still the biggest G to grace the screen to date. Godzilla 2014 Movie: Elizabeth Olsen Talks About Role in Film

Image
From EPOCH TIMES Elizabeth Olsen, who stars in the “Godzilla” 2014 reboot coming later this year, recently gave an interview about her role in the film. Olsen plays Elle Brody, the wife of Ford Brody–played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson–in the movie from director Gareth Edwards. “I approached Godzilla like I’d approach anything. It’s just a little bit more imagination,” said Olsen, according to Total Film. “I don’t understand what looking at a big monster is, but I’d think, ‘It’s a sniper, shooting at me from a high building.’ I understand what that is.” She didn’t elaborate much more on her role, but said, “I do get to be in the midst of the action, but most of the action I’m amidst are the casualties!” Olsen continued: “I’m a nurse and I have a child with Aaron. I’m trying to do my job as a nurse but also to take care of my child. I’ve never been interested in being someone who points at things and runs and screams.” Olsen also described her first meeting with Edwards. She

Bob Casale, Founding Member Of Sci-Fi Rockers Devo, Dead At Age 61

Image
From Contact Music Devo vocalist and founder Bob Casale died Monday from “conditions that lead to heart failure,” the band has announced on their Facebook page. Casale was 61. Casale joined the band at its beginning, after Gerald Casale founded Devo with Mark Mothersbaugh when they were students at Kent State University in the early 1970s. Bob was recruited by his brother, along with Mothersbaugh’s brother, also named Bob (Casale was referred to as Bob 2 to differentiate). Together, the four musicians crafted Devo’s signature synth pop and rock sound, mixing kitsch science fiction themes with social commentary and satire. Casale served as the band’s guitarist and keyboardist, while also helping in the production of many of the songs. He added the signature discordant keyboard to the band’s greatest hit – the 1980 single Whip It. Devo officially broke up in 1991, but continued to tour on and off for the following two decades. In 2010, the band released Something for Everybody, its

Godzilla - Godzilla Raids Again - Signed and Numbered Poster Print From First Showing He's back again! Uncensored! The original Japanese monster that started it all. We know WB is bringing us a brand new Godzilla movie this year, directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters) with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, but before then we're getting a throwback to the classics that introduced us to the giant lizard monster. Back in 2004, Rialto Pictures commissioned a brand new digital restoration of the uncut 1954 Japanese classic, Godzilla, or Gojira (which is also now on Blu-ray), and released it in theaters around the US. Now they're bringing it back for its 60th anniversary as well as upcoming release of the new Godzilla movie this summer. The Rialto Pictures Godzilla page (since they have still the rights for the theatrical re-run) has been updated with some very basic details for the upcoming 2014 re-release of the film.
