King Kong vs Godzilla - It's a peculiar kind of humor, but it does play.

Image
The Hollywood Reporter has republished their review for "King Kong vs Godzilla" by James Powers, originally published on June 6, 1963: A funny monster picture? That's what Universal has in King Kong vs. Godzilla, a Japanese-made Toho production. There are all the usual special effects characteristic of these films. The difference is that this one spoofs the whole cycle. Audiences which patronize this kind of picture will eat it up. It should be a big success via the multiple-booking, exploitation route. Since the film was re-edited and some additional scenes made for the English-language edition, credits are mixed. John Beck produced the American version, and Thomas Montgomery directed it, after the Japanese original by Inoshiro Honda. Paul Mason and Bruce Howard did the English-language screenplay. Dubbing is good. The plot simply is a device for getting the two celebrated monsters, King Kong and Godzilla, into conflict. They meet in Japan. Human efforts to d

UFO Report - "A conspiracy of men who cooperated with alien beings to create human alien hybrids."

Image
Dang It! I hate it when stuff from the X-Files turns out to be true! Background from The X-Files Wiki: A hybrid is the genetically manipulated product of alien and human DNA as part of the colonization project run by the Syndicate. Some humans became hybrids via gene therapy while others were conceived through a hybridization process. When the Syndicate concluded a sinister alliance with the alien colonists in 1973, an alien fetus was given to them in exchange for family members to be used as test subjects. This fetus granted them access to alien and allowed them to create a hybrid race between man and alien, paving the way for colonization. A scientific method was also taught so they could produce successful specimens; the Syndicate had previously invited Nazi and Japanese scientists to participate in early experiments using alien DNA taken from corpses found at the Roswell crash site in New Mexico with disastrous results. The alliance implied that Syndicate members and their f

“You must unlearn what you have learned.” - Star Wars Movies Back On?

Image
Well ... it looks like Disney and Lucasfilm have decided to move forward with their stand alone Star Wars prequels. From ABC News Hold up, "Star Wars" fans. Reports of the death of future standalone films from that galaxy far, far away (like "Solo," "Rogue One" and a rumored -- but never-announced -- Obi-Wan Kenobi project) appear to be premature, and speculative at best. Lucasfilm sources on Thursday characterized as "inaccurate" a report that future "Star Wars" movies falling outside of the regular trilogy storyline (Episodes I to IX) have been put on hold in the wake of the box office under-performance of "Solo: A Star Wars Story." Instead, Lucasfilm told ABC News there are still "multiple" Star Wars films currently in development that have not been officially announced. Those projects are moving forward separate from an already-announced "Star Wars" trilogy being overseen by "The Last

Hold The Force! Disney Puts Future Star Wars Movies On The Shelf

Image
Well this certainly sucks. After fumbling the ball with "The Last Jedi", which led to a so-so box office for "Solo", Disney has decided to put all of their future "Star Wars Story" movies back on the shelf until after "Episode Nine" is released. I will not be seeing the next movie myself due to the fact that I no longer care what happens to the remaining characters. I still can't wrap my head around how Disney and Lucasfilm couldn't even remotely grasp what everyone wanted to see in their new trilogy. To put it simply "put the band back together". How hard is it to understand? Luke, Leia and Han save the galaxy one last time with some new interesting characters thrown in to expand the story. If those characters were strong enough, then make a movie about them. It was a slam-dunk and they blew it. That being being said, both "Rogue One" and "Solo" were excellent! From Collider It may be a while bef

Ultraman 2019 anime series created entirely with motion capture

Image
I sure hope this is more exciting than that boring Godzilla anime. From Anime News Network It's no secret that 3D animation in Japan has its detractors among anime fans. Despite this, more CGI anime have been released recently, and the upcoming Ultraman anime, set to launch in 2019, is going to be entirely in 3D animation. However, directors Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki are using a different approach when it comes to the anime's actual animation. They are using motion capture to create the CGI, but the anime is not filmed shot by shot. The studio decided to film the entire anime in motion capture. At AnimeNext in Atlantic City, Kamiyama and Aramaki showed footage of how the anime's actors wear motion capture suits during stunts and fight scenes. They also wear them during drama scenes, where the characters talk or use simple movements. The directors explained that this makes the characters' movement more natural. Using the motion capture technique, the i

Wonder Woman 1984 - Gal Gadot Can Run Faster Than Crap!

How Alden Ehrenreich found out about Maul’s shocking appearance in Solo

Image
The appearance of Darth Maul in "Solo" blew my mind. I sure hope they make the rest of this trilogy! From The Express (UK) By Shaun Kitchener Towards the end of the recent Star Wars spin-off, the iconic villain from Episode I: The Phantom Menace is revealed as the mysterious superior to Dryden Vos (Paul Bettany), who by that point had been killed by Qi’Ra (Emilia Clarke). Clarke is then summoned to see him, at which point the film ends. Speaking to ET Canada, Ehrenreich said the cast and crew were not informed of Maul’s cameo until incredibly late in the process. “Late,” he said. “Like, when we were going back and doing a few pick-ups. “There was a part in the script where it said somebody appears but it didn’t say who, so there was speculation among the cast and crew over who it was gonna be. “Everyone was kind of talking about it. There were a lot of rumours.” Asked about how he would like any future sequels to play out, the actor said he just wants to

First Look - Wonder Woman returns to a world of MTV and shopping malls.

Image
I really have to question why the Makers of "Wonder Woman 2" didn't set the film in the 70s instead of the 80s? I mean the original TV series took place in the 70s right? From Collider In a pleasant morning surprise, Warner Bros. has released the first Wonder Woman 2 images from the highly anticipated sequel, as filming on the follow-up is now underway. Officially titled Wonder Woman 1984, the film sees Patty Jenkins returning to direct a story that brings Diana Prince into the 1980s, where she faces off against supervillain The Cheetah played by Kristen Wiig. But the most revelatory thing about these images is that they confirm Chris Pine’s return as Steve Trevor. And this doesn’t appear to be some sort of hallucination or flashback, as Trevor is looking confused as all get-up in what appears to be a mall. I’m not quite sure if we’re dealing with time travel or what here, and I’m a bit wary of undoing what was such an emotional plot development in the first Won

Wally West discovers all that he’s lost

Image
From DC Comics By Tim Beedle Joshua Williamson and Howard Porter’s long awaited “Flash War” continues this week in THE FLASH #48, and for Wally West, everything is about to change. In last month’s debut chapter, the Flash Family was confronted by the Renegades, a team of super-powered peacekeepers from the future who look a lot like the Rogues, but who say they only want to see justice served. The problem is that the justice they seek is for Eobard Thawne, who was killed by Iris in the future. After a brief battle, Iris agreed to go with the Renegades to plead her case, not wanting her actions to continue creating problems for her friends and family. Wally, Barry and Kid Flash said they would accompany her through time, only Wally disappeared in the process—his journey redirected by none other than his old nemesis, Zoom. At least, he used to be Wally’s nemesis. Now, Zoom claims that he just wants to help. To restore all that was taken from the former Flash—starting with Wally’s

Godzilla: King of the Monsters has been screened and the fans are going crazy!

Image
This is great news! I really really really want this movie to be one of the best monster movies of all-time. From Cosmic Book News Last night saw Warner Bros. test screen a secret film, which turned out to be Godzilla 2 (not Aquaman). Following the report from back in March which said Godzilla: King of Monsters was really great, now someone who went to the Godzilla 2 test screening says it's awesome. A Redditor saw Godzilla 2 and said fans won't be disappointed and that it has awesome scenes. "You won't be disappointed," user aemon123 said offering that fans will be "far more" satisfied with the monster action this time around. The Reddit user didn't want to spoil things in the movie related to the final battle involving Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah, as well as if there is any Godzilla vs. King Kong set-up, but noted there are plot tie-ins with Kong: Skull Island. The person also claimed "there are some awesome mom

On September 5, an epic space opera by writer Cullen Bunn and artist Matteo Lolli begins, as Angela, Valkyrie, Skurge the Executioner, Throg the frog Thor, the Destroyer, and Thunderstrike join together for a larger purpose. We sat down with Bunn to get a few details about the new limited series. Marvel.com: Cullen, what was the pitch behind this story? Without getting into spoilers, where do we find this new team at the beginning of the book? Cullen Bunn: So, I did a search through my e-mails and found the original message I sent to [editor] Wil Moss about this story. I sent that message, proposing a spacefaring adventure book starring the Asgardians and titled ASGARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, back in 2015. Wil a

Long Forgotten Ultraman Animated Series Gets A Blu-ray Release

Image
I was a teenager in the 80s and I honestly never heard of this. (Or maybe I'm just so old now that I forgot about it?) From Crunchyroll Tsuburaya Productions announced today that a Blu-ray disc of Ultraman USA, its co-production anime film with Hanna-Barbera Productions in 1987, will be released on September 26, 2018. The film was inspired by the concept of Tsuburaya's long-running Ultraman tokusatsu superhero franchise, but its story was set in the US and featured three American protagonists, who transform into Ultraman Scott, Ultraman Chuck, and Ultrawoman Beth. Mitsuo Kusakabe (Kirby: Right Back at Ya!) served as director. Under the title Ultraman: The Adventure Begins, its English-dub version was first aired in the US in October 1987, then its Japanese-dub version was screened as part of the "Ultraman Festival" event along with two episodes of Ultraman and Ultraman A in April 1989. Short introduction anime footage of Ultraman Kid were also attached to th

Long Lost Print Of KING KONG Discovered In London Cinema

Image
(Note: This is a reprinting of a previously published article from my archive) It seems that a rare print of the 1933 classic film "King Kong" has turned up in a rather unlikely place, buried in the wall of a London cinema. During recent renovations to the Grosvenor Cinema, a worker named Ross McMillan was working on knocking down a partition wall in the projection room when he noticed something odd looking in the rubble. To his amazement he discovered that it was a copy of "King Kong." Not just any copy, mind you, a copy that has been missing from the vaults of RKO for more than seventy years. An original print, that may very well contain scenes cut out of the film, including the long-lost Lizard and Spider canyon sequences. Mr McMillan said: “I didn’t know what it was at first, I hoped it was hidden treasure but when I realised it wasn’t I was about to throw it in the skip. “One of the cinema staff stopped me and took it away to find out what it was.

It Looks Like The Sci-Fi Thriller "5th Passenger" Is Finally Coming To Theaters

Image
Sometimes it just takes time in the movie biz. In the case of the sci-fi thriller "5th Passenger", which stars Star Trek alumni Tim Russ, Marina Sirtis, Robert Picardo, and Armin Shimerman, it took a really long time, four years in fact. The film was actually shot way back in 2014 and it first came under my radar in October of that year. (Here is my original article: Sci-Fi with Star Trek cast and Female Lead - 5th Passenger ). Since I hadn't anything further about it (until today) I assumed that the movie went straight to DVD or some streaming service. However, according to ComingSoon.net it looks like the film is about to get a theatrical release: Epic Pictures is set to release the upcoming sci-fi thriller 5th Passenger in theaters and on-demand on July 10 and has given ComingSoon.net the exclusive debut o the film’s trailer! Check it out in the player below! Produced by Scott Baker, Morgan Lariah, Mike Phillips and directed by Bakerm the film assembles an all-

Lisa Vanderpump's Reality TV Success Has Spawned New Interest In ABC's Cult Film "Mantrap"

Image
I have to admit that I was shocked this afternoon when I logged onto Yahoo! and and I saw a story about the 1983 cult film Mantrap. Part spy film and mostly music video "Mantrap" was created as a promotional device for the British rock band ABC to promote their album "Lexicon of Love" which in my opinion is one the greatest pop albums of all time. In the 80s ABC ruled my turntable and later on mix-tapes (Cassettes). Their songs about the heartache of love after love gone south struck a chord with me as I moved on from one bad relationship to another. But enough about me. Now to all the hubbub. As it were "Mantrap" was not only the debut film for ABC but also Lisa Vanderpump, who I understand is now a really big reality TV star. Admittedly I don't follow reality TV, so outside of this film I honestly wouldn't notice her if we passed on the street. The article on Yahoo! is really a good piece: Lisa Vanderpump is now reality TV royalty v
