You may not find that written on a Christmas card this holiday season, unless you happen to have a Klingon in your family. It is, of course, “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!” translated into the Klingon language.
While Klingons are, obviously, not real, but an alien warrior race invented for the “Star Trek” TV shows and movies, fans have invented an entire Klingon language, with its own vocabulary, grammar, even punctuation.
And so it’s logical – maybe? – that Klingon would invade the world of live theater. “A Klingon Christmas Carol” is a long-running play in Minneapolis and Chicago, the first piece of theater to be performed entirely in Klingon.
Which made it a fun challenge for Madison resident Catie O’Donnell Glogovsky, who directed this year’s production of “A Klingon Christmas Carol,” which finished up a nearly sold-out three-week run last weekend at the Athaneum Theatre on Chicago’s North Side.
