On a seemingly ordinary April night in 2023, just before the clock struck midnight, two coworkers found themselves parked in a vehicle on a sprawling ranch, nestled outside Vernon, Texas. The air was thick with silence when one of the men, attentive to the night sky, suddenly caught sight of a large, dark-colored craft gliding smoothly towards the west. The vehicle’s engine was turned off, a deliberate choice to immerse themselves in the quiet of the night, and it was in that moment of stillness that the extraordinary caught their eye.MOMO The Pumpkin-Headed Missouri Monster | Cryptid Creatures of the Mississippi River | Local Myths and Legends
Written By Ken Hulsey
In 2009, a filmmaker who called himself Count Zee contacted me about a movie he was making. The film focused on MOMO, a local legend in Missouri about a Bigfoot-like creature with a pumpkin head that terrorized the area near the Mississippi River in the early 1970s. At the time, I was happy to provide publicity for his movie project, as I was already involved with several independent projects featuring monsters and local legends. A film about a giant, pumpkin-headed Sasquatch was right up my alley.
Fontana Speedway Monster | Bigfoot Sightings on the Outskirts of Los Angeles | Local Myths and Legends
Written By: Ken Hulsey
The city of Fontana, located in Southern California, has a rich history in auto racing. As many know, the Auto Club Speedway, situated within the city, hosts a major annual NASCAR race along with other racing events. However, less known is that in the 1950s, the area was home to the renowned Mickey Thompson's Fontana International Dragway, considered one of the premier drag racing venues in the country. The dragway operated for nearly two decades before a series of fatal accidents led to its closure in 1972. Today, the site is occupied by a housing development known as the Village of Heritage, located about a mile east of Etiwanda Boulevard on the north side of Foothill Boulevard.

Haunted Louisiana | Lost Souls in Forgotten Plantations | Ghostly Travelers

Travelers venturing along Highway One in Louisiana, weaving through the eerie woodland that connects Baton Rouge to Shreveport, should keep a wary eye for a ghostly figure rumored to haunt this stretch. Witnesses have reported encountering the spirit of a woman dressed in 'slave era' attire—her presence felt between Lettsworth and Simmesport. Clad in a tan or peach blouse, a flowing white skirt, and a traditional headwrap, this elusive apparition is strikingly featureless and appears to glide just above the ground. Eyewitness accounts reveal that she often gestures towards the road, waving her arms in silent urgency. Yet, when drivers pause or glance back in their rearview mirrors, she'll vanish without a trace, leaving only a chilling reminder of her fleeting encounter.
A California Monster Mystery: The Buena Park Monster | Local Myths and Legends

For over a decade, I have been writing about sightings of Bigfoot-like creatures in and around Southern California. As a general rule, these encounters have taken place in rural, mountainous, and even desert areas. Many of them occurred in secluded locations, while others surprisingly happened in populated areas adjacent to those mountains, forests, and deserts. It seems that Bigfoot wanders into neighborhoods from time to time, probably in search of food.
The Spectral Truck and Driver Who Terrorized the Albuquerque Desert! | A True New Mexico Ghost Story
Written By Ken Hulsey
With Halloween quickly approaching, I wanted to share a little ghost story from my past. Back in the 1980s, I lived in Albuquerque, in a subdivision known as Heritage Hills. When my family moved in during the late 1970s, this area was brand new. In fact, these were the only homes located on the furthest north side of the city. Beyond our subdivision, there was nothing but open desert, with dirt roads and a few scattered structures. This area remained undeveloped for quite some time.
