The Mighty Grand Piton is a short film about a young British girl, Connie, who travels to the Caribbean Island of Saint Lucia for her school holidays with her family. There, she accidentally awakens a giant robot buried under the Twin Piton mountains on the south of the Island. This robot seems compelled to protect Saint Lucia but his origins are mysterious. No one knows where he came from or how long he’s been there. During the many years he’s lain dormant, The Mighty Grand Piton, became nothing more than the stuff of legend.

The Mighty Grand Piton is the brainchild of Wesley Louis, whose parents were born in Saint Lucia before moving to the UK. Connie, whose character is based on an amalgamation of Wes’s nieces and nephews, is also an embodiment of his own experience of visiting the Caribbean. Specifically, the story references his memories of engaging with a culture and community that he grew up just hearing about. We also get a sense in this film what it was like seeing for the first time a landscape that could not be more different from where he was born in London.

I wonder how long until Disney steals this one? lol

It Looks Like The Sci-Fi Thriller "5th Passenger" Is Finally Coming To Theaters

Sometimes it just takes time in the movie biz. In the case of the sci-fi thriller "5th Passenger", which stars Star Trek alumni Tim Russ, Marina Sirtis, Robert Picardo, and Armin Shimerman, it took a really long time, four years in fact. The film was actually shot way back in 2014 and it first came under my radar in October of that year. (Here is my original article: Sci-Fi with Star Trek cast and Female Lead - 5th Passenger). Since I hadn't anything further about it (until today) I assumed that the movie went straight to DVD or some streaming service. However, according to ComingSoon.net it looks like the film is about to get a theatrical release:

Epic Pictures is set to release the upcoming sci-fi thriller 5th Passenger in theaters and on-demand on July 10 and has given ComingSoon.net the exclusive debut o the film’s trailer! Check it out in the player below!

Produced by Scott Baker, Morgan Lariah, Mike Phillips and directed by Bakerm the film assembles an all-star Star Trek crew of its own including Doug Jones (The Shape of Water, Star Trek: Discovery, Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) Tim Russ (Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), Marina Sirtis (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Generations), Armin Shimerman (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, The Hitcher and Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time) and Morgan Lariah (Colony One and Chase Me Through).

5th Passenger is set in the aftermath of an oppressive class war, Miller, a pregnant officer aboard an escape pod must struggle to survive with her remaining crew when a mysterious and vicious life form attacks, determined to become the dominant species.

A successful crowdfunding campaign helped bring this project to life. 5th Passenger debuted at the Artemis Women in Action Film Festival where they “celebrate powerful women taking action on the silver screen.”

“I directed 5th Passenger because it’s a film I wanted to see. It is inspired by my love of the science fiction genre, The Twilight Zone, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. All twisted storylines with principled characters thrown into extreme situations where society breaks down and their morals and values are tested.” says Director Scott Baker.

Honestly up until about five minutes ago I had never heard of Rothic comics, but after looking at a list of comics that were hitting the newsstands today a seeing the eye-catching cover for "Ancient Dreams #7" I decided to do more research.

New Documentary, Dr MegaVolt: From Geek to Superhero, to Premiere at Comic-Con

Filmmaker Victoria Charters announces the world premiere of her documentary, Dr MegaVolt: From Geek to Superhero, on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival (http://www.comic-con.org/cci/film-festival). The 1-hour, 12-minute screening will take place in the Grand Ballroom D of the Manchester Grand Hyatt, 1 Market Place, San Diego, California, from 2:35 pm - 4:05 pm. The independent film features Austin Richards, PhD, aka Dr MegaVolt, a physicist who has been enchanting friends, colleagues, and the media since 1997 with his high-voltage performances employing Tesla coils while he is enclosed in a metal Faraday suit. The result is a spectacular "lightning" show.

The film chronicles Austin Richards' journey from a precocious and curious young boy who loved to play with electricity, to a graduate student at U.C. Berkeley where he built a giant Tesla coil. The movie highlights Dr MegaVolt's escapades as a legendary and popular performing artist at the Burning Man Festival in Nevada, as the guest star on many science-minded TV specials, and when he added a female performer, Victoria Charters, to his performance, delighting the audience with "his and her" high voltage adventures.
