Another Brand New Promo Clip For "Daimajin Kanon"

As the time for the premiere of first episode of Kadokawa's much anticipated series, "Daimajin Kanon", grows ever closer, the studio will undoubtedly be releasing more and more promotional clips.

Today we have the second such clip to be released within a week.

Granted, the bulk of the video, is exactly the same as the first, except for some more scenes with the shows very lovely female lead, Rikuna Yuka, and a very pissed off looking Daimajin puppet.

I don't know about you, but if I were in Japan I would watch the show so that puppet doesn't come and kick the crap out of you.

Now, I'm not pretending like I can speak, or understand, Japanese, but I'm certain that the angry little doll is holding up signs saying something to the effect of, "Watch 'Daimajin Kanon' or I will sneak into your house and scare your pets."

Well......something like that.....loosely translated.

Anyway, there is, like I mentioned, more footage of Rikuna Yuka, so the clip is worth seeing.

Though, if you are scared of puppets that look like ancient Japanese stone idols, you may want to pass on this one.

Oh, and I don't know which advertising will be on the bottom of the video you watch, but mine had one for a singles website with three pictures of hot women with huge breasts.

An added bonus for sure!

A Brand New Trailer For Kadokawa Pictures' "Daimajin Kanon"

Kadokawa Pictures has just released a brand-new trailer for their upcoming late-night television series, "Daimajin Kanon", that is pretty impressive to say the least.

As most of you already know, the series is based on a trilogy of "Daimajin" films produced by Daiei in Japan towards the end of the 1960s.

Here is how the shows 21-year-old star, Rikuna Yuka, described the plot, "This time the heroine will be a college student called Kanon who keeps on singing prayers that awake the giant god of war. Once again Daimajin will have to deal with a lot of bad guys."

Indeed there wil be a lot of bad guys. In the trailer we see the stone god Daimajin fighting some giant alien looking monster, a giant ghost, and bugs run amok.

Though there promises to be plenty of giant monster action, the show will 'really' revolve around Yuka's character, Kanon, and her attempts to fit in and overcome her feelings of awkwardness.

Hey, I don't know what the problem is? I would so want a hot looking Japanese girl-friend who could summon a giant monster to fight her battles for her.

Then again, if she got pissed at you she could turn the two-hundred-foot-tall Daimajin on you....and I do have a habit of upsetting the ladies.

Okay, I see the problem here.

Kanon may have a hard time getting a date with a giant stone god acting like a protective father-figure.

It's the kind of a soap-opera that you could only find on TV in Japan.

New Images Of The Stone Monster And Costumes From 'Daimajin Kanon'

Kadokawa Pictures is really pulling out all the stops for their upcoming television series, "Daimajin Kanon", which is based on the classic series of "Daimajin" films (Dai Majin, Dai Majin ikaru, Dai Majin gyakushu) produced by Daiei in the late 1960s. According to two brand-new articles in KawaiiJoyuu and NewType The Live, Kadokawa is pumping 1 billion yen into the series, which is far and above what is normally invested into a Japanese late-night fantasy television series of this type.

Kadokawa also took great care in selecting it's leading lady for the series, Rikuna Yuka, a 21-year-old college student, was selected out of about a thousand prospective actresses.

In the magazine article Yuka talked a little about her role as "Kanon" and revealed a bit of the shows plot, "In the dorama (a late-night TV drama aimed at an adult audience) Kanon is able to experience personal growth despite the cold-hearted and painful life in the city. Just like her I was able to learn a lot during the filming and think that I grew up a bit myself."

There are always tons of 'bad guys' in these type of shows, aren't there? Just look at the "Ultraman", "Kaimen Rider", "Zone Fighter".....um...."Mirror Man"....."Ultra Q"....(Oh, you get the idea!) television series for example.

"Daimajin Kannon", as you may have already guessed, is a modern continuation of the first three films, which were set in Japan's feudalistic past.

It should be noted to those of you who have not seen the original "Daimajin" trilogy, that they are surprisingly good films, much better fair then Daiei's "Gamera" films, which were produced at about the same time.

Thant's not to say that "Gamera" movies are bad, you know I love them, but overall the Daimajin films were of a higher quality.

Along with these new articles came a whole new batch of photographs, most of which depict many of the elaborate costumes used for the show. Producer Shigenori Takatera's influences from his stint on "Kamen Rider Hibiki" can be seen in a lot of the costume designs featured here.

Of course, there are a couple good shots of the 20-meter-tall "Daimajin", actress Rikuna Yuka and the rest of the shows cast.

Now, you tell me, is that possibly the sexiest 'fish-girl' costume you've ever seen?

The First Trailer For Kadokawa's 'Daimajin Kanon'

It has been some time since I last had anything to report about Kadokawa's new television series based on their 1966 film 'Daimajin' called 'Daimajin Kanon."

Last month Kadokawa began to air a rather cool new trailer for the series. The clip begins as a tribute to their prior sci fi and monster films, namely the 'Gamera' films produced between 1965 and 1999 and the 'Daimajin' films produced in the late 60s and ends with adverts for new video releases for these films.

I have to admit that seeing a crisp and clear 'Gamera' clip is a bit of an odd sight. I'm so used to the crappy American prints that have been aired for decades.

What is wedged between the giant flying turtle and the old statue come to life stuff, is a great mix of all the things that make Japanese sci fi it's own unique breed of cat. Giant monsters, over-the-top villains, bug-eyed critters on motorcycles, cute tiny aliens and something that has really made an impact on the genre of late, sexy girls in little outfits.

I think that we can thank Anime and shows like "The Ancient Dogoo Girl" for that.

Honestly, there is a scene that shows the cute little alien hiding in the sexy girls cleavage.

I'm not making that part up honest!

The series, which is being produced by Shigenori Takatera (Kamen Rider Hibiki), was originally to air back in October, but is now slated for a Spring 2010 debut.

In the original 1966 film, "Daimajin", and ancient statue is brought to life by the prayers of an oppressed village. The Daimajin destroys the armies of the evil feudal boss that ruled the village, then begins destroying the village itself. Only the tears of a young woman stops the carnage and turns the statue to dust.

From what can be seen in the new trailer, this modern version seems to follow the events from the original film series.

Looks cool enough, though you have to wonder if a series that encompasses so many cliche stereotypes from prior Japanese sci fi movies and series will be able to appeal to modern fans.

Then again, from what I have learned about the Japanese, they really don't like change very much, so the formula of re-using these elements may work out just fine.

Time will tell.

New Photos From Daimajin Kannon

Way back in July we got our first look at Kadokawa Pictures upcoming television series based on the 1966 movie "Daimajin", called "Daimajin Kannon". Today we have even more images from this series, but there is little new information to go along with them.

When Avery Guerra sent me the images, which he collected from various sources, I began a search to find out more information about the series for the accompanying article (this article). To my surprise, I could not find one shred of new information on "Daimajin Kannon" at all. Not one news story, blog post or message board post. Very odd, to say the least.

It was mentioned back in July that Kadokawa Pictures were trying to keep the details about the series a secret, and it looks like they have succeeded.

All that is known for sure is that "Daimajin Kannon" is to be modernised version of the 1966 film, which is to be produced by Shigenori Takatera (Kamen Rider Hibiki). The "Daimajin" is to stand over 20 meters tall. Oh, and the series is supposed to begin airing later this month.

That's about all folks.

The photos give us some clues. There are photos of, whom we can only assume are, the cast members. A guy that looks like a cross between Kamen Rider and a Samurai...on a motorcycle no less. There is also some strange looking little thing that looks like someone stuck a lampshade on a Pokemon or something.

Honestly, I wish I could give you more!

Thanks to the July issue of 'Newtype: The Live' and the "Daimajin Kannon" website, we American fans of Japanese sci fi have gotten our first look at the true star of the upcoming television series. According to the magazine article this new version of Daimajin will stand over 20 meters tall, that's 66 feet to us westerners. That is a major increase in height from the original statue-come-to-life featured in the original Japanese movie trilogy, which was produced by Daiei (1966).

According to 'Newtype' this new Daimajin series is being produced by Shigenori Takatera (Kamen Rider Hibiki) and is slated to begin airing in October of this year. Kadokawa Pictures, which took over Daiei in 2002, is keeping the details of the series under wraps, but it is known that the new series will take place in modern times and will be marketed towards adults.
