The University of New Mexico, which went 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the Mountain West, tying for first place, was selected to play the University of Minnesota in the Rate Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona. The Rate Bowl will be played on Friday, December 26, at 2:30 pm Mountain Time at Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Quarterback Jack Layne completed 14 of 22 passes for 138 yards, without throwing any touchdowns or interceptions, and he contributed 71 rushing yards on eight carries for New Mexico (4-3, 1-2 Mountain West Conference).
