Vampirella #25 Arrives This October With Wedding Bells!

From Dynamite Entertainment

Yes, you read that right. Not a fake out, not a dream - Vampirella's 50th anniversary series is coming up on a massive celebration and marriage in this fall's issue #25 by Christopher Priest and Ergun Gunduz!

Can the Daughter of Drakulon cheat fate? A mysterious, innocent young man is beset with a deadly prophecy. He may just be the resurrection of the one and only deadly Dracula. But with a chance of breaking the curse with the power of love, Vampirella forges a bond in blood to save his life and destiny. Check the registry, clean your tuxedo, and save the date - October 20th!

“Like most everything we’ve done in VAMPIRELLA, expect the unexpected," said writer Christopher Priest, "Which, of course, makes it really hard to promote without giving away the surprises. It’s a tired trope to say this is a Dracula story unlike any you’ve read before - but it really is. And, unlike some other big announcements, our gal won’t be left at the altar!”

In "Seduction of the Innocent," Vampirella survived a tragic plane crash engineered by an alliance of her greatest foes - including her own mother! Readers met a diverse cast of new characters including Victory, Benny the Witch, Doc Chary, Katie the vampire groupie, the Six Marys, and more. Next, in "Interstellar," the vampiric heroine returned to her home planet of Drakulon, faced with the moral quandary of saving the mother who just manipulated her, and retracing her own origin.

Then in issues #23 and 24, the runup to the "Red Mass," Vampirella is stalked by Shane The First Man, a murderously unhinged Apollo astronaut from an alternate Earth. Vampirella quickly learns that Shane’s descendant, a child she’d once shielded from religious zealots, has grown to manhood and is a carrier of the Dracula Virus: the genetic essence capable of reincarnating the deadliest evil the world has ever known. While seeming nothing at all like the dark lord, FBI Agent Matt Ecsed is, nonetheless, under an ageless curse, destined to become the immortal Dracula - unless Vampirella makes the ultimate sacrifice. Everything has lead to this!

And that's not all! This explosive issue marks the conclusion of the 50th anniversary celebration. But could it possibly be the end of Priest's tales of Vampirella? It wouldn't be fair to just drop the microphone after a wedding, so fans can stay tuned for the exciting next paths for the character to be announced soon... It's the ending of the critically acclaimed era, but the start of something even bigger!

To really celebrate this epic event and culmination of Priest's two year tenure, a bounty of breathtaking variant covers is needed, in the grand Dynamite tradition. Celebrated international artist Ergun Gunduz turns in a can't-miss peek at the bridal gown. Returning favorites like Lucio Parrillo, Shannon Maer, Marco Mastrazzo, InHyuk Lee, and Maria Laura Sanapo contribute covers. They're joined by some of today's most in demand talents including Rose Besch, Zoe Lacchei, KyuYong Eom, and Emanuela Lupacchino. Many of the artists also have fun showing off their own alternate depictions of Dracula, as editor Matt Idelson challenged his artists to "Think outside the coffin!" - and they've delivered in spades!

A Summer Of Sci-Fi: Star Wars

Carrie Fisher: Lunch With Monsters At A Chinese Restaurant

In STAR WARS, Carrie Fisher has a film role that measures up to her fantasy life. She portrays the beautiful Princess Leia, a senator from the plant Alderaan and a rebel-leader working secretly for freedom and justice against the oppressive, evil Galactic Empire.

“When I made my first film, SHAMPOO, my scene was shot in Beverly Hills, which is where I grew up. I wore this little tennis outfit, which was something I might wear in real life. It wasn’t at all what I expected making movies would be,” Carrie Fisher said. “I grew up watching movies and they always seemed like adult recess. And that’s exactly what making STAR WARS turned out to be – a kind of adult recess. I got to go to lunch with outer space monsters at a Chinese restaurant.”

All New! Han Solo and Chewbacca on a world the law forgot!

After bidding farewell to their Rebel friends, Han Solo and Chewbacca set out to return to Tatooine to pay off their debt to Jabba the Hutt. En route, they are hijacked by space pirate Crimson Jack and his gang of thugs. The pirates take the reward money given to Han and Chewbacca by the Rebel Alliance for rescuing Princess Leia Organa, but spare their lives.

Star Wars: Eight Against A World!

Han Solo and Chewbacca are hired by Ramiz, a moisture farmer on Aduba-3, to protect his village from a band of local thugs known as the Cloud-Riders, led by Serji-X Arrogantus. Han and Chewbacca hire six misfit spacers to help them with the task, including Don-Wan Kihotay, an old man who thinks he is a Jedi Knight, and Jaxxon, a rabbit-like Lepi with a mean disposition. Serji-X tries to convince Han to forget about his mission to protect the peasants and even offers him compensation, but Han declines.

What Was It Like To See Star Wars In 1977?

"Star Wars" was of course a cultural phenomenon that changed the world of filmmaking. I remember all the action figures when I was little, and I always thought they were pretty cool. I remember those and my brother's 'Kiss' action figures vividly. The first time I saw Star Wars was on VHS. I was completely blown away with the creativity, concept and characters! I thought the effects were amazing- particularly so for 1978! I loved R2D2 and C3PO. The Star Wars bar rocked, and I make references to it often. If I have to pick my favorite characters- it would have to be the Ewoks from Return of the Jedi- ugly, cute, and whimsical all at the same time. As a "true" Star Wars fan - I'm not as fond of the new 'prequels'...." - Suzi Lorraine (Actress/Model/Writer)

Bob Anderson The Forgotten Darth Vader

Anderson subsequently went on to be involved in all three of the original Star Wars films. Anderson did not receive much recognition for his work for years after their initial release. Mark Hamill in 1983 revealed, "Bob Anderson was the man who actually did Vader's fighting. It was always supposed to be a secret, but I finally told George I didn't think it was fair any more. Bob worked so bloody hard that he deserves some recognition. It's ridiculous to preserve the myth that it's all done by one man." Anderson in 1994 specified that for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi he staged the lightsaber duels and also wore the Vader costume in fight scenes. David Prowse, who played Vader, said he did his own swordplay in the first Star Wars film but afterward, "having one of the principals do his own stunts made [the filmmakers] very weird from an insurance point of view.

"May the 4th be with you." #StarWarsDay

"May the 4th be with you." What started as pun warmly shared by fans has become a full-fledged Star Wars holiday: Star Wars Day, a special once-a-year celebration of the galaxy far, far away.

One of the earliest known records of “May the 4th” used in popular culture is in 1979, as described here by author Alan Arnold while he was chronicling the making of The Empire Strikes Back for Lucasfilm:

 Friday, May 4

“Margaret Thatcher has won the election and become Britain’s first woman prime minister. To celebrate their victory her party took a half page of advertising space in the London Evening News. This message, referring to the day of victory, was ‘May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations,’ further proof of the extent to which Star Wars has influenced us all.”

Once the Internet allowed Star Wars fans around the world to connect with one another, May the 4th soon became a grassroots tradition each year, with fans online and offline proclaiming it “Star Wars Day.”

Star Wars: Journal of the Whills

 ANOTHER galaxy, another time.

The Old Republic was the Republic of legend, greater than distance or time. No need to note where it was or whence it came, only to know that… it was the Republic.

Once, under the wise rule of the Senate and the protection of the Jedi Knights, the Republic throve and grew. But as often happens when wealth and power pass beyond the admirable and attain the awesome, there appear those evil ones who have greed to match.

So it was with the Republic at its height. Like the greatest of trees, able to withstand any external attack, the Republic rotted from within though the danger was not visible from outside.

Star Wars: The Missing Pieces

In regards to the "Tosche Station" footage from A New Hope, which was supposed to be placed between the opening space battle and the droids landing on Tatooine, never made it into any release of the film. Lucas was never very fond of the sequence and thought it didn't fit into the flow of the story. There has always existed the urban legend that some people had indeed seen an early version of the film with the footage included though Lucasfilm has always denied that anyone ever has. Even more puzzling though is the fact that the scene was included in "The Star Wars Storybook" published in 1978. The author of the book had to have seen the footage because it is described in detail and four photos from it are included in the book. More puzzling yet was the fact that cut Biggs footage in the hanger bay on Yavin 4 was added to "The Star Wars Special Edition." Adding the footage explained why Luke was so visibly upset when Biggs dies, but poses the question "How does Luke know this guy?" Evan though Biggs is mentioned in a prior conversation with his Aunt and Uncle, I don't think that the added footage worked with the story. As a fan I felt like I was "thrown a bone.", but was still delighted to see it.

Star Wars: Mark Hamill - Star Wars Press Conference

Mark Hamill – With all the merchandising that’s going on, I really wish they would publish the original screenplay for STAR WARS. It is so thick with ideas – more descriptions and more of everything than was in the movie. There just wasn’t time to get it all in. Yes, it is very simple, and people say there is no story line – just bad guys chasing you because you have something they want. On one level, that’s true; on another level…you know, even though I am ostensibly the hero, George Lucas has given me a menagerie of supporting creatures – animal, vegetable and mineral – and everybody’s working together. Men working with machines, working with rodents, working with whatever…I think it’s terrific.
