First things first: I know that this weekly retro video showcase is usually called Flashback Music Friday. However, since this week's feature includes The Beatles, I felt it would be fitting to temporarily rename it "Fab" Music Friday. "Fab Music Friday" featuring the "Fab Four"—you get the idea.
In our top ten, I'm also including ICEHOUSE, a band I really loved back in the late '80s. Another highlight is TOPS, a band from Canada that has a fantastic new album out called Bury The Key. I'll be featuring the amazing title track from their 2020 album "I Feel Alive." I think that counts as a flashback, right?
Next, we have a great song from Duran Duran's first album. Yes, they released an album before Rio, and I think it’s just as good, if not better. We finish the top five with Midnight Oil's powerful track "Beds Are Burning." That song makes me want to drive a post-apocalyptic dune buggy through the Outback at top speed, while being chased by a group of punks with mohawks. Okay, that was a Road Warrior reference, but it's also something uniquely Australian, like Midnight Oil and ICEHOUSE.
To wrap things up, I've included a bonus video from Art of Noise featuring an awesome remake of the Peter Gunn (TV Series) theme with the original artist, famed guitarist Duane Eddy. This video has always been one of my favorites. It's a bit of the Art of Noir—watch it and you’ll get the pun!
