The Brand-New Teaser Trailer For Brian Jaynes 'Boggy Creek'

It seems fitting that Brian T. Jaynes would opt to debut the trailer for his upcoming "Boggy Creek" movie just a little over a week after the passing of legendary cult film maker Charles B. Pierce. As most of you know, Pierce made the original "Legend of Boggy Creek" film with $160,000 he borrowed from a friend. That film would go on to become a drive-in hit and fan favorite.

Though many sources are listing Jaynes film as a remake of Pierce's original, in actuality, it really isn't.

The differences between the two films are just too numerous to ignore. For starters, though both films feature a swamp stalking Bigfoot, the original film was about the infamous "Fouke Monster" who terrorised the small town of Fouke, Arkansas, in the early 1970s.

The location for the events of Jaynes new film, take place in the fictional town of Boggy Creek, Texas, which actually lends it's name to the movies title.

"The Legend of Boggy Creek" and "Boggy Creek", not the same thing.

Now, before someone corrects me, there is a section of a rather pretty rural area north of Austin, called "Boggy Creek", but no one would confuse the swamps seen in the "Boggy Creek" movie with this lush farm belt.

Now that we have gotten that out of the way, Jaynes new movie looks like a really good Bigfoot related horror movie.

Here is how the producer/director describes his movie, "It's a thriller that centers around a story of five young kids who get caught out in a swamp in Boggy Creek, Texas. They end up crossing paths with an ancient evil creature that lives in the swamp."

Though the film isn't about the legendary, "Fouke Monster", the big harry guy in Jaynes' film is based on a legendary creature of Indian folklore, "We're kind of combining that with some ancient Caddo Indian mysticism and mythology. We took a little creative license with it and painted our own version of Sasquatch."

Okay, I do want to point out that it is obvious that there are some similarities between the new, and old "Boggy Creek" films. So it would be safe to say that this modern version was 'inspired by' Pierce's classic.

Though the 1972 film was filmed 'documentary style', while the 2010 incarnation is straight-forward horror film.

Let's just wait and see if Jaynes can manage to scare the crap out of us the way that Pierce did.

New 'Boggy Creek' Movie Not A Remake After All?!

When it comes to the new "Boggy Creek" movie it would be wise to drop the tag "remake" and instead refer to the film as 'inspired by' instead.

In a recent article in the Texarkana Gazette, written by Aaron Brand, the film's director, Brian T. Jaynes, revealed that his movie would be very different from the Charles B. Pierce classic in most respects. In fact his film wouldn't even be about the same monster.

Yes, its true, the legendary Fouke Monster, which was the basis for the original "Boggy Creek", and it's two sequels, will be replaced by a moss covered half-man-half-creature of Caddo Indian mythology.

The director explains, "We wanted something that is a little more ominous" and "essentially our story revolves around five young kids who've been friends all their lives."

Jaynes also gave some insight into his human characters stating that they would, ".......inspire either love or hate."

That probably means that you will be rooting for the monster.........whatever it is.

From these revelations, it is easy to see that Jaynes is hoping to draw attention to his film by slapping the name "Boggy Creek" on it, although the film will be nothing like it's namesake. I really hate when film makers do that!

Filming for "Boggy Creek" is set to begin in the area of Caddo Lake near Jefferson, Texas this week.

I don't know about you, but there is a part of me that wants to good old "Swamp Stalker of Boggy Creek" to show up and show Jaynes just how 'ominous' he can be!

Casting Update For The Boggy Creek Remake

Over this past weekend Armand Vaquer was kind enough to post a quick article about the remake of the 1972 Charles B. Pierce classic "The Legend of Boggy Creek."

At that time very little was known about the film, but now Dread Central has been tipped to some casting news and the name of the film's director:

To be called simply Boggy Creek, the redux stars Damon Lipari (of the upcoming Wrong Side of Town) as Dave, Jennifer Sipes (Oliver Stone's W), Melissa Carnell, Samuel Haun, Carlos Tovar, Jennifer Minar, and Julin (pictured, of the upcoming Sweatshop and Spirit Camp) as Kay. It is being directed by Brian T. Jaynes, who just wrapped on the urban thriller Hittin' the Streets with Texas Battle and Toni Trucks.

For those of you who aren't savvy to Pierce's original film, here is the 411:

In 1972 Charles Pierce, an ad salesman from Texarkana, borrowed $160,000 from a friend who owned a car dealership, to make a movie about a local legend in Arkansas, that he had heard about growing up. Armed with a hand-held camera, and the local residents, who played themselves, Pierce set out to create a pseudo-documentary about recent encounters with a Bigfoot-like creature in and around the small town of Fouke.

There has been renewed interest in "The Legend of Boggy Creek" due to a recent episode of "Monster Quest" which focused on the "Fouke Monster" aka "The Swamp Stalker of Boggy Creek". The program showed several scenes from the film and also featured reenactments of some of the events that it documented.
