Man, you gotta wonder what's going on in the independent monster movie bizz? Film makers are churning em faster and faster. There's films about Mega Sharks, Giant Octopuses, Dinocrocs, Supergators, Raging Sasquatches, hot Indian chicks turning into snakes, and now thanks to Chris Ray, we have "Megaconda."

It is clear that the new motto is "bigger is better." You have The Asylum with their Mega Shark, who is big enough to chew up the Golden Gate Bridge paired against a Giant Octopus that can swallow a nuclear submarine whole without having to chew. God only knows how big "Megaconda" is going to be? I have a feeling that it will make the snake in "D-War" look like fish bait.

Ray has just finished principal photography on his giant snake flick.The production has now turned to the post and effects stage.

The director was good enough to send us a batch of photos, of course, there aren't any of the "Megaconda." You know that film makers never show their monster until right before release time!

If it helps, just visualize a really frickin big snake in these shots, and you will get the idea.

New Photos From Fred Olen Ray's Reptisaurus

It has been quite awhile since we last heard from the camp of Olen Ray and Chris Ray about their monster movie "Reptisaurus."

Avery Guerra was able to get a hold on some really great photos from the film.

If you recall, "Reptisaurus" is based on the short-lived Charlton comic book "Reptisaurus The Terrible, " which ran for seven issues in 1962. Oddly enough the comic actually started out as an adaptation of the Danish monster movie Reptilicus, but the tie-in was abandoned after only two issues. In the comic, Reptisaurus was a giant, winged, reptilian, island-dwelling, monster that was worshipped by the ancient Aztecs who believed it to be the embodiment of their god Quetzalcoatl.

The film also stars famed TV actor Gill Gerard (Buck Rogers).

The CGI effects for the film were done by Voreville, a company which specialize in kinky stuff involving monsters and sexy women. That being said, the effects in "Reptisaurus" look pretty good.

Now lets take a look at the pics....

You know I have had a lot of women in the same position, and they reacted the same way. Okay, I'm kidding.....maybe just one. Anyway this young lady looks like she is about to become a snack.

This woman obviously was a snack. Eeeeeewwwww.

"Do you think your puny weapons can stop me? I'm the mighty Repisaurus!" A good blend of CGI and live-action in this one.

Reptisaurus Movie Trailer

The first trailer is out for Fred Olen Ray and Chris Ray's new monster movie "Reptisaurus." It looks like a fun film that combines the elements of "Reign of Fire", "The Elementals" (An unmade Ray Harryhausen film) and about a dozen cheaply made Sci Fi Channel monster films. Not to say that "Reptisaurus" will be a stinker, au contraire, I believe the film will be a hoot. It sure is good to see Gil Gerard again.

I really like the scene with the fighter jets and the monster. That looked like a very well done sequence. Some of the other parts looked a bit cheesy, but then again this isn't some big-budget Hollywood epic. It is good to see that independent projects are starting to catch up with the big guys in the effects department, due mostly to the development of reasonably priced CGI software. This is giving a lot of film makers an opportunity to live out their dreams, where not too long ago, projects like this would have been impossible to accomplish.

Count me in on this one!

New Reptisaurus Poster Art

It has been quite a while since any news has surfaced on the Reptisaurus movie front, but the folks over at B Movie News and Undead Backbrain were able to rummage up a copy of the film's poster art.

It is always cool to see an image of a giant winged monster either attacking or being attacked by fighter jets, it always takes me back to the first time I saw Rodan. Now at this point I don't know how much of this ariel action we will see in the film, or how good it will look. A lot of special effects men have tried to pull off sequences like these and failed miserably, but then again they all can't be Tsuburayas.

Oh, yes before I forget, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. It does indeed say "Gill Gerard" across the top of the poster. Many of you may not know who that is, but to us Gen-X types his name will always be connected to the early 80s sci fi series "Buck Rogers" which also starred the lovely Erin Grey, but then again if you didn't know who Gil Gerard was then you probably wouldn't know who she was either. Wait....I'm rambling aren't I? Sorry, we old-timers tend to do that.

Chris Ray To Helm Reptisaurus Movie

Chris Ray, son of famed b-movie director Fred Olen Ray, is set to make his directorial debute on the giant monster film Reptisaurus. The film will be based on the short-lived Charlton comic book "Reptisaurus The Terrible, " which ran for seven issues in 1962. Oddly enough the comic actually started out as an adaptation of the Danish monster movie Reptilicus, but the tie-in was abandoned after only two issues. The Reptisaurus movie will be produced by David Sterling, and is set to star veteran TV actor Gil Gerard (Buck Rogers).

In the comic, Reptisaurus was a giant, winged, reptilian, island-dwelling, monster that was worshipped by the ancient Aztecs who believed it to be the embodiment of their god Quetzalcoatl. From that description it is easy to see why many fans believe that comic book was the inspiration for Larry Cohen's movie, "Q, The Winged Serpent.' The movie version of Reptisaurus will be your basic tale of soldiers on an island being terrorized by the giant monster.
