Director and screen-writer, David Lloyd, agrees with me. We both think that fellow director Brett Kelly is a hyperactive movie making machine. Lloyd, however, didn't mind channeling some of his 'energy' when he was working on his latest project, "The Legend of Viper's Hill."
"The Legend of Viper's Hill" the debut feature for Lloyd's, The Cousin Company Entertainment Group, and so far the project has been getting a lot of positive press from some real 'names' in the horror movie biz.
Fred Olen Ray, director of "Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers", called the film, ". ... very nice piece of work.... creepy too... genuinely eerie.... "
Likewise Canuxploitation's Paul Corupe adds, "Blood-spurting scenes of the ghosts putting the scare on, and the final shocker of an eerie TV newscast that seems to progressively dwarf the viewer stick out as the film's best moments, and do provide some genuine chills in that exciting last half hour. While not perfect, The Legend of Viper's Hill is nonetheless an impressive first feature that smartly plays to its strengths.. "
Yet the most favorable review came from one of the UK's top entertainment journalists, M.J. Simpson, who wrote, "This debut feature from Canadian indie outfit, The Cousin Company, is a commendable achievement."
Those are not glaringly positive reviews, but one must remember that independent films in the horror genre very rarely catch the eye of the industries top writers and critics, so any mention, especially a positive one, speaks loudly about the film.
Here's the film's synopsis:
The Legend of Viper’s is a psychological horror that tells the story of Meredith Baron, a 30 something woman returning home to close the book on a dark chapter in her family tree.
Years ago Meredith's grandmother, Rosie, was attacked and raped by Theodore Brick. After giving birth to a stillborn child Rosie took her own life. Since that day a curse hung over the Baron home in the small community of Vipers Hill.
Looking to make a fresh start Cedric Plume moved his family into the empty house. Soon after he murdered his wife and children before placing the barrel of a shot gun in his own mouth.
Years later upcoming business woman Michelle King thought the picturesque home was to die for. Her last thought before opening her jugular with a carving knife was how right she was.
Today investigative reporter Jackie Coulter learns that Rosie's only surviving ancestor, Meredith is, along with the family lawyer Larry Cline, is returning to the family home to try and put to rest the legend of Vipers Hill.
Meredith, Jackie, Larry, and local handyman Clifford learn that some thing's do go bump in the night.
