CLASH OF THE TITANS 2 Begins Production

Principal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures' and Legendary Pictures' epic action adventure sequel to "Clash of the Titans," being directed by Jonathan Liebesman ("Battle: Los Angeles"). Returning to star in the film are Sam Worthington ("Avatar") as Perseus, and Academy Award® nominees Ralph Fiennes ("The English Patient," the "Harry Potter" films) as Hades and Liam Neeson ("Schindler's List," "Unknown") as Zeus.

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus—the demigod son of Zeus—is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius.

Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity's lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld.

Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus' godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramírez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans' strength grows stronger as Zeus' remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth.

Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon's demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Jonathan Liebesman directs the film from a screenplay by Dan Mazeau & David Leslie Johnson and Steven Knight, story Greg Berlanti & David Leslie Johnson & Dan Mazeau, based on the 2010 hit "Clash of the Titans" and the 1981 film of the same name, written by the late Beverley Cross.

The film is produced by Basil Iwanyk ("The Town"), who also produced the previous "Clash of the Titans," and Polly Cohen Johnsen ("Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore"). The executive producers are Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, William Fay, Callum McDougall, Kevin De La Noy and Louis Leterrier.

Joining Worthington, Fiennes and Neeson in the international cast are Danny Huston ("Robin Hood"), reprising his role as Poseidon, god of the sea; Edgar Ramírez ("The Bourne Ultimatum," TV miniseries "Carlos") as the traitorous god of war, Ares; Bill Nighy ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1") as Hephaestus, whose twisted, lame figure belies his Olympian origins; Toby Kebbell ("Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time") as Agenor, imprisoned thief and son of Poseidon who joins Perseus on his journey to Tartarus; and Rosamund Pike ("Barney's Version") as Andromeda, the princess whose life Perseus once saved, and who now, as a queen, follows Perseus into battle.

The behind-the-scenes team bringing this mythical epic to life includes director of photography Ben Davis ("The Rite," "Kick Ass"); production designer Charles Wood ("The Italian Job," "The A-Team"); Academy Award®-winning editor Martin Walsh ("Chicago," "V for Vendetta"); and costume designer Jany Temime (the "Harry Potter" films). "Clash of the Titans 2" also reunites several talents from the previous film, including Oscar®-nominated visual effects supervisor Nick Davis ("The Dark Knight,"); Oscar®-nominated prosthetics supervisor Conor O'Sullivan ("The Dark Knight," "Saving Private Ryan"); and Academy Award®-winning special effects and animatronics supervisor Neil Corbould ("Gladiator"). Also on board are Oscar®-nominated makeup designer Paul Engelen ("Frankenstein," "Robin Hood") and hair designer Kevin Alexander ("Robin Hood," "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian").

"Clash of the Titans 2" will be filming in studios outside London and will later shoot on location in Surrey, South Wales and in the Spanish Canary Islands on the island of Tenerife. The film is currently scheduled for release in March 2012.

Clash Of The Titans Director Leterrier Gunning For A Trilogy

It seems that just making one fantasy film just isn't good enough for film makers anymore. No, just about everyone in the industry hopes that they can milk a series of films out of any idea, and "Clash of the Titans" director, Louis Leterrier is no different.

Luckily for Leterrier, the vast history and writings of Greek mythology will give him more than a fair amount of subjects to tackle in any proposed sequels.

Recently the director of the "Titans" remake told MTV, "I'd love Clash to be a franchise. Clash is like creating your own world. It's like James Cameron with Avatar, he can explore different planets.

"Well, I can explore Greek mythology. You've got so many creatures, so many heroes, so many gods. You have Daedalus, Icarus, amazing stuff. You've got several worlds. I could spend the rest of my life directing Greek mythology movies and I would still not finish everything."

"If Clash does well and we're lucky enough to make it into a franchise, that's what I'd love to do. Before the gods, there were the titans, there were even bigger creatures and monsters. That could be something. It's ancient superheroes."

But before you begin to think that this is just wishful thinking on the part of Leterrier, the film maker adds that the execs over at Warner Bros have already inquired about how the film could launch the next "Harry Potter", "Batman", "Spider-Man", or, if the Gods are willing, "Star Wars" type franchise.

"We've talked about it loosely. Any movie of this size, [the studio wants] to know you won't hit a wall after your first movie. So they're like, 'If we green light your movie and give you the money, what's the idea for the sequel?'

"And you just give them some ideas. You draw an arc for your character. I'm not saying I know what exactly will happen to Perseus in the next two movies, but I know the direction and it's pretty exciting."

For those of you who may not be in the loop, "Clash of the Titans" was originally a 1981 fantasy film directed by Desmond Davis, produced by sci fi cinema legends Ray Harryhausen and Charles H. Schneer, that starred Laurence Olivier, Harry Hamlin, Judi Bowker, Maggie Smith, and Ursula Andress.

The film was the last to feature the superb stop-motion special effects of the legendary Ray Harryhausen.

"Titans" was a box office hit, grossing $41 million. The film has also been beloved by fantasy film fans for decades, due mostly to the creature designs, and effects created by Harryhausen.

Here is the plot for the remake:

Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Sam Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Ralph Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. As 2009 comes to a close, the major Hollywood movie studios will begin to 'push' many of their upcoming movies for 2010. Generally this comes in the form of releasing images, dates and brief, and I do mean brief, synopsis for these 2010 movies.

This year it was Warner Bros who has fired the first shots in promoting films that hit theaters in the upcoming year.

Amongst the batch of photos just released by the studio this afternoon are a few films that may be of interest to Monster Island News readers, namely, "The Book Of Eli", "The Losers", "A Nightmare On Elm Street", "Jonah Hex" and the guaranteed mega-hit, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1."

Now unless you have been stranded on some deserted island, like Gilligan, you know that "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is an upcoming two-part fantasy film adapted from the novel of the same name by J. K. Rowling

The two movies, Part I and II, will be the final instalments in the globally successful Harry Potter film series. Both parts are written by Steve Kloves, who wrote all but the fifth film, and directed by David Yates, who directed the previous two films. David Heyman and David Barron are producing both parts.

The first photo from the film (Above) really doesn't tell you much about the latest adventures of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. Three angry looking teenagers at a mall.........I see that all the time.

Jonah Hex is an upcoming Western film based on the DC Comics character of the same name. The film is directed by Jimmy Hayward and stars Josh Brolin as the title character.

Oh, and let's not forget that the film also stars Megan Fox as Leila, A gun-wielding prostitute and Jonah Hex's love interest.

Yes, Megan Fox as a hooker with a gun, do I really need to write anything else?

Rumor has it that in the movie we will see the bounty hunter (Hex) in the late 19th century tracking down voodoo practitioner Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich), who plans to liberate the Confederate South with an army of the undead.

A zombie western? Okay?

If you are surprised to see another film based on a comic book here....well you shouldn't be.

The Losers is a comic book series published by the Vertigo imprint of DC Comics, written by Andy Diggle and illustrated, for the most part, by Jock. It ran for 32 issues from August 2003 to March 2006. The idea was very loosely based on the original Losers for DC Comics, a group of World War II soldiers, although Andy Diggle maintains he has never read a single issue of the original series.

The Losers' re imagining was set against events surrounding and including the War on Terror. Originally a Special Forces team seconded to the Central Intelligence Agency. in the 90s, the Losers were betrayed by their handler, Max, and left for dead following the conclusion of their operation. Eager for revenge and the opportunity to remove their names from a secret CIA death list, the Losers regroup and conduct covert operations against the CIA and its interests, uncovering startling operations spearheaded by the enigmatic Max, whose influence within the CIA and U.S. government is unparalleled.

The film stars, Zoe Saldana as Aisha, Chris Evans as Jensen, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Clay, Columbus Sort as Pooch, Idris Elba as Roque and Oscar Jaenada as Cougar.


"Halloween" got remade, so did "Friday the Thirteenth" , so somebody, like Samuel Bayer, would logically have to remake "A Nightmare On Elm Street".

Jackie Earle Haley takes over for Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, the witty serial killer with the cool hand razors, who slices up horny teens in their dreams.

Krueger without Englund.......well......lets just say that Haley has big claws to fill.


The Book of Eli is an upcoming post-apocalyptic action film directed by the Hughes brothers and starring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis.

In a post-apocalyptic world, a lone hero, Eli (Denzel Washington), guards the Book of Eli, which provides knowledge that could redeem society. The despot (Gary Oldman) of a small, makeshift town plans to take possession of the book.

"The Road Warrior" meets "The Last Man on Earth" meets "Army of Darkness".....perhaps.

Will Smith had "I Am Legend", now Denzel Washington has "The Book of Eli".....now there is symmetry in the universe.
