Bob's Big Boy Burbank, California - A Real Blast From The Past!

Written By Ken Hulsey

During a trip back to California, Terri and I had the pleasure of dining at the oldest remaining Bob's Big Boy in Burbank. This restaurant is a perfectly preserved example of what the dining experience was like in the decades following World War II. Wrapped in neon lights, the Bob's in Burbank serves as both a restaurant and a museum.

Recipes For Great Food: Bennigans Queso Dip

If you are a cheese-loving maniac like me, you will absolutely love this recipe!

Back in the 1980s, my friends and I spent countless hours enjoying meals at Bennigan's restaurant in Albuquerque, New Mexico. One of my favorite dishes was their incredible queso dip. Although Bennigan's is no longer around, my love for that dip has never faded. For years, I unsuccessfully tried to replicate it. Now, thanks to the internet, it’s finally time to make some dip!

Some West Coast Flavor - In-N-Out Burger

 Written By Ken Hulsey

My wife loves to reminisce about the restaurants we used to visit when we lived in California. Tonight, she mentioned In-N-Out, and immediately, I thought of a Double-Double and Animal Style Fries. As soon as those thoughts crossed my mind, my taste buds started craving it. The dilemma is that we are in Alexandria, Louisiana, and the nearest In-N-Out is a four-hour drive away in Dallas.

Best Restaurants in California, New Mexico, Louisiana, Texas & Across America - Ken's Top Picks

By Ken Hulsey

In 2022, I published an article featuring my top 20 favorite restaurants across the USA. This year, I've expanded that list to 50 establishments, spanning burger joints, pizza places, Mexican eateries, sushi bars, upscale steakhouses, and hidden gems from California to New Jersey.

As a long-time resident of California, Texas, New Mexico, and Louisiana, the majority of the restaurants on my list are located within those states. I hope this comprehensive guide will prove useful for any travelers seeking a delicious meal, whether they're looking for an affordable bite or an upscale dining experience.

Sweet Treats and Good Eats - Borden's Ice Cream Shoppe in Lafayette, Louisiana

Photos and Story by Ken Hulsey

I’ve driven past Borden's Ice Cream Shoppe countless times during my trips to Lafayette, and each time, that charming forties-style building always draws my attention. I've wanted to check it out for so long, but as a diabetic, indulging in ice cream has always felt like a forbidden temptation. However, this past Saturday was special because my wife and I had our young granddaughter with us, which gave us the perfect reason to finally stop in.

Craving Island Food Try Ono Hawaiian BBQ

Since my wife and I made the big move away from the beautiful West Coast, we’ve really had to adjust to life without some of our favorite California comforts. One of the things I miss most is the incredible food diversity that was just a short drive away. The selection of restaurants was a food lover's paradise, tempting us with everything from Thai and Indian to Chinese and Japanese cuisines, not to mention a smorgasbord of Mexican delights. And if you were in the mood for something classic, an authentic Italian meal or a perfectly cooked steak and baked potato was always just around the corner.

When it comes to the vibrant and diverse world of New Mexico cuisine, there's definitely a delightful debate that food lovers can’t resist—red chile versus green chile! Personally, I like to keep it simple with a straightforward rule: I pair red chile with beef and green chile with chicken. As for pork? I believe it can shine with either option! This little guideline has served me well over the years, ensuring that I enjoy countless delicious meals and live a truly satisfying life.

What Makes Clearman’s North Woods Inn a Family Favorite for Decades

 Written By: Ken Hulsey

One restaurant I fondly remember from my time in California is Clearman's North Woods Inn. I still have cravings for their Cheesy Bread and Red Cabbage Salad—both of which are nothing short of legendary. The restaurant combines delightful food with a fantastic ambiance, making it an ideal spot for everything from a first date to a special anniversary celebration.

Coastal Cuisine - Rubio's Fish Tacos | Rubio's Coastal Grill

Sometimes it's the simple things in life that are the most special. On its face, the Baja Fish Taco is a rather simple item. Sustainable, Wild Alaska Pollock, beer-battered by hand and cooked to crispy perfection. Topped with white sauce, mild salsa and cabbage. Served on a warm, stone-ground corn tortilla. That's literally it. Their famous 'Fish Taco Plate' consists of two of those tacos with some tortilla chips and a cup of 'no-fried' pinto beans. It doesn't sound like much, and it really isn't, but man oh man is it one delicious meal.
