But thankfully, Thor had a little bit of a sense that something might happen, and he contacted his old Korbinite buddy, Beta Ray Bill, to step in and say, “You know what, good friend Bill?” Or…what would he call him… “old friend Bill! Yon…” something or other, I don’t know. He would ask Bill to step in for him to help out the Alliance in the fight against the Serpent and the Worthy.

Back on Earth, Thor thinks back to a time shortly after Jane failed to become a goddess. Both Jane Foster and Thor are strangely drawn to a spot out in the woods, where the ground opens up, and the demonic tentacles capture Jane, then the ground closes up again. Thor follows, only to find Jane a captive of Pluto. Pluto then reveals his ally in vengeance - Loki. Loki then summons Ulik to battle Thor. Thor and Ulik battle back and forth, until Ulik discovers that he is but the pawn of Pluto and Loki. Enraged, Ulik begins to attack Pluto. After saving Pluto from Ulik, and sending Ulik back to Asgard, Pluto releases Thor and Jane back to Earth, with Jane's memory erased of her ordeal and what happened earlier. - Marvel Comics

Disney Begins Production On THE AVENGERS

Production has commenced today in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated movie “Marvel’s The Avengers,” directed by Joss Whedon (“Serenity”) from a screenplay by Whedon. The film will continue principal photography in Cleveland, Ohio and New York City. It appears that Marvel Entertainment is making some big moves to ensure that they own the box office for the next two years. First they cast one of Hollywood's sexiest stars as a popular villain, then they move several films back a year to monopolize the summer of 2011.

First things first. It seems that Scarlett Johansson has been popping up in the news a lot as of late. Just last week ago it was revealed that the buxom beauty would be taking on a "Xena-like" role in the upcoming action film, "Amazon", now news has surfaced that she will play the Black Widow in the next "Iron Man" film.

Recently a scheduling conflict forced actress Emily Blunt to turn down the role of the Black Widow, opening the door for Johansson to be cast as the popular villain.

As it stands now, "Iron Man 2" will boast a truly 'all-star' cast, which already includes such names as Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow , Don Cheadle, Mickey Rourke (who just joined the cast to play the villain Whiplash) and now Johansson.

As it stands, "Iron Man 2" is scheduled to be released in 2010......well maybe?

This leads right into the part about the re-scheduling of some of the upcoming films based on Marvel Comics heroes.

Reports coming out of Marvel Entertainment these days, point to studio possibly moving "Iron Man 2" back, yet another year, to be released in the summer of 2011 alongside "The First Avenger: Captain America", "Thor" and "Spider-Man 4".

Likewise, Marvel has reportedly moved the release of "The Avengers", featuring Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, The Hulk and Captain America to the summer of 2012.

If indeed Marvel moves "Iron Man 2" to the summer of 2011 to go along with the other three films scheduled for that time period, they may very well own the box office. Then again, maybe too many superhero films at one time may lead to low numbers for each film. Too much of good thing can be a bad thing sometimes and Marvel may be wise to rethink putting all their eggs in one basket.

We will have to see if the gamble pays off.

James Bond star Daniel Craig has turned down the chance to portray Marvel superhero Thor on the big screen, believing that it would give him too much of an ego.

Craig was producer Louis D'Esposito's top choice to play the Norse "God of Thunder" in director Kenneth Branagh's film adaptation of the famous Marvel comic book character.

But Craig snubbed the offer, claiming it would be "too much of a power-trip" to play both 007 and Thor.

History:

Following Thor's debut in the science fiction/fantasy anthology title Journey into Mystery, the 13-page feature "The Mighty Thor" continued to be plotted by Lee but scripted by Lee's brother Larry Lieber or Robert Bernstein (working under the pseudonym "R. Berns"). Penciling was by either Jack Kirby, Joe Sinnott, Don Heck, or, for a single issue, Al Hartley. Then with Journey into Mystery #101 (Feb. 1964), the series began a long and definitive run by Lee and Kirby that lasted until the by-then-retitled The Mighty Thor #179 (Aug. 1970).
