Is There A New Godzilla Film In The Early Stages At Toho?

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Various Message Boards

Okay Godzilla fans, hold on to your hats! There is a rumor buzzing around several Godzilla related message boards that there is a new "G" movie in the early planning stages at Toho. Allegedly this new film will restart the franchise (AGAIN!) and feature CGI effects over the traditional miniature sets and "man-in-the-suite"effects that made Eiji Tsuburaya a legend.

I do want to reiterate that this is all just a bunch of Internet message board hype, and in all likelihood all of this is probably BS.

On the other hand, if all of this is indeed true, than we could all be looking forward to a new Godzilla film in the near future.

It may indeed be possible that the vast number of giant monster related films being produced in the United States and Korea has sparked a fire under Toho's butt to get back into the kaiju movie business. After all they were the kings of the genre for decades. Fans may remember that it was the success of the 90s Gamera films, plus the release of the dreadful US version of "Godzilla", that prompted the studio to produce "Godzilla 2000".

You can bet that all of us here at Robo Japan will be watching this story with much interest.

any news, rumours, gossip on the Deathla movie? I've been trying to get a bug in the Toho ears they should write the North Pacific Gyre trashheap into that film to give the story some mainstream traction.

I posted an article back in April about how there was a blurb in a press release from Sony for "Woke Up Dead", stating that Brent Friedman was presently working on "Godzilla 3D" for the digital studio Electric Farm Entertainment. So the dirt may not have been shoveled onto the project just yet.

I haven't heard anything else about the project sense.

I will, however take a search of the web to see if I can find any more info.

Out of curiosity, what specific message boards did you here this from?

Ken, what message boards did you see these rumors at?

Initially it was posted on the forums for GSNorthAmerica Yahoo group. I believe I also saw a post on the Kaijuphile forums. There were more that turned up when I did a Google search before I ran with this.

It was my hope that by posting this RUMOR I might be able to get someone to come forward with more info on wether this is fact or fiction.

So far.....no dice.

Like I mentioned in the artice...this is probably BS.

I hope to god there is because we G-Fans don't wanna wait nine to ten years for a new Godzilla movie to come out! I know Toho want to renew interest in Godzilla but c'mon!
