It had been quite a long time since we heard anything about Joel Trujillo's monster flick "Serpent Lake", but the director just posted a brand-new trailer for the film on Youtube.
"Serpent Lake" is horror comedy based on Minnesota's legendary lake monster. In the film the monster returns after a 30 year absence to feast on vacationers in and around the lake.
From the trailer it is easy to assume that you will be quickly rooting for the monster in this one. Trujillo has assembled a rag-tag group of characters that are so annoying that you will be happy when the monster has them for a snack.
True, it is unfair to pick on Trujillo, and his monster. The film maker made this one with a 'shoe-string' budget and limited resources. You can tell that he did the best that he could with what he had.
The monster itself is a basic CGI creation, which makes the most awful sound. It's design obviously based on the "Loch Ness Monster." It's not one of the best movie monsters ever created, but I've seen worse.
Synopsis:
Every 30 years, in the summer there is a mysterious unidentified creature claimed to inhabit Astaire's freshwater lake in Minnesota.
Along with Loch Ness monster Nessie and Lake Champlain's Champ, this monster is one of the best-known mysteries of cryptozoology. Most scientists and other experts find current evidence supporting the creature's existence unpersuasive and regard the occasional sightings as hoaxes or miss-identification of known creatures or natural phenomena. Minnesotans believe in this legend, even though their theories may vary. The creature thought to be a plesiosaur being the most popular of these theories. But unlike Loch Ness or Lake Champlain, there is no canal linking Serpent Lake to the sea raising the question," Where does this creature come from? And during this time some people in or around the lake come up missing.
