Written By Ken HulseyAt the dawn of this year, I embarked on a personal quest to deepen my connection with the Divine, to explore the depths of His essence, to engage in prayer—a true conversation with Him—and to document this sacred journey. In my usual fashion of hesitation, I lulled myself into a cycle of procrastination, and here we are, at the close of July, finally steering my ship back on course. My aspirations started with the desire to traverse the beginnings, to immerse myself in Genesis. I even captured initial reflections on creation during my early studies. Yet, that plunge into sacred text left me grappling with profound questions about the nature of the Almighty.
In this renewed study, I chose to shift my approach, seeking to glean answers through the lens of a tangible, human encounter with God. It astonished me to discover how few direct meetings between humanity and the Divine are recounted in scripture. Adam and Eve walked in God's presence, engaging with Him intimately before the shadow of sin dimmed that sacred bond. Genesis shares this epoch but falls silent on the physical manifestation of God. Throughout the pages of the Bible, we witness God communicating with various individuals and sending His angels, who make appearances in numerous narratives. However, I found myself drawn to the extraordinary encounter of Ezekiel—a narrative that beckons closer examination.
My motivation for delving into this account is twofold. Firstly, many skeptics regard Ezekiel's experience as an ancient tale of UFO sightings, a veritable Close Encounter of the Third Kind, with some suggesting that celestial visitors from realms unknown graced him with their presence. As a seeker of mysteries and phenomena that baffle the mind, this narrative has long fascinated me. Secondly, a decade ago, I made a vow to the Divine to explore the enigma of what exactly transpired during Ezekiel's encounter, to peel back the layers of mystery and convey my insights. That moment of reckoning has finally arrived.
As for Ezekiel's meeting with the Divine, one might question what complexities require untangling. At first glance, the tale appears straightforward: angels herald the Lord’s arrival upon a majestic throne as Ezekiel receives a prophetic charge concerning the fate of the Israelites. Yet, as one delves into the intricate verses of Ezekiel, the imagery of the angels and God unfolds in an otherworldly portrayal that resists simple understanding, often leaving us scratching our heads in wonder. The language suggests whether he speaks of living entities—or angels—as he struggles to articulate visions one might perceive as mechanical constructs, a description that seems almost alien to our modern mind. This is the essence of the mystery that envelops this passage of scripture, compelling us to peer deeper into its sacred meaning.
The enigmatic encounter with the Divine that Ezekiel recounts has captured the imaginations of both believers and skeptics. In the weeks to come, we will delve deep into this sacred mystery, slowly unraveling one of the Bible's most profound secrets.
