The construction team behind
Brightline West, an exciting new high-speed rail line planned to connect Las Vegas, Nevada, to Rancho Cucamonga in Southern California, is sharing some promising news: they are “getting close” to kicking off the construction phase! Unlike many advanced countries, the U.S. currently lacks any operational high-speed rail lines—marked by speeds of at least 155 miles per hour on specially built tracks. For comparison, China boasts nearly 30,000 miles of high-speed rail in operation.
It's an interesting race taking shape between California High-Speed Rail, which is underway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, and Brightline West, as both aim to be the first to launch a U.S. high-speed rail line. According to Brightline West, they’ve nearly completed the field evaluations, reaching 99 percent completion. This crucial step is helping to finalize their design, and they've been busy gathering soil samples along the proposed route since last year. Analyzing these samples will aid in understanding the necessary grading and support for the tracks, stations, and other facilities.
After holding a groundbreaking ceremony in 2024, the team has made significant strides toward the main construction phase. Although the initial plan was to have the line ready for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, that timeline has shifted. As we look ahead, work on Brightline West is set to ramp up in the coming months. Additionally, a separate project known as the High-Speed Desert Corridor is also on the table, aiming to connect it with California High-Speed Rail through another rail line.
From Bightline:
Get ready for a game-changer in travel! Brightline West is set to become America’s first genuine high-speed passenger rail system, bringing a fresh, eco-friendly approach to how we get around. Imagine zipping between two of the nation's most iconic destinations—Las Vegas and Southern California—in style and comfort.
The new rail service will stretch 218 miles, connecting Las Vegas directly to Rancho Cucamonga, California. Most of the track will run right in the middle of the busy I-15 corridor. Currently, about 50 million trips are made each year between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, and guess what? Over 85% of those trips are by car! Unfortunately, that often leads to unpredictable travel times and frustrating congestion on the roads.
Brightline West aims to revolutionize this journey by catering to more than 9 million passengers annually. With our all-electric, zero-emission trains, you can travel guilt-free while enjoying the latest amenities designed for your comfort. Our trains will zoom past traditional speeds, reaching up to 200 mph! That means you can travel from Las Vegas to Rancho Cucamonga in just about 2 hours and 10 minutes—twice as fast as driving!
Get ready to experience train travel like never before! Your next adventure awaits with Brightline West.
