From the Hydra to the Rainbow Serpent, myth was the compass that led us to the resting place of the three-headed Titan. A name, unspoken through millennia of whispered nightmares. A living extinction event, named “the one who is many”. We call it Monster Zero.

At a Monarch containment facility deep in the frozen tundra of Antarctica, a three-headed winged serpent of ancient yet unknown origin lies frozen within a glacial tomb of ice. This is without question the largest superspecies ever discovered, easily dwarfing Godzilla at a height of over five-hundred feet tall.

Cranial scans reveal a divergent frontal lobe density in the brains of the three heads, denoting each head has disparate levels of cognitive functions, and possibly even independent thought.

Within a Monarch containment facility atop the active Isla de Mona volcano, a mysterious Titan lies in pyrostasis within the restless magma. The legends speak of it as the “Fire Demon” or “The One Born of Fire”, but a simpler name echoes through the ancient temples of volcanically active regions: “Rodan”.

Data Update:

A volcanic internal combustion system of magma flows throughout a body covered in rock-like scales that act as geothermal armor. While much larger in size, Rodan has a skeletal structure similar to that of a Pteranodon - one of the earliest vertebrates known to have developed the power of flight. Just as Kong is king of the primates, Rodan may have once been king of the skies.

Because of the extreme temperatures within this particular containment facility, current lab equipment can’t function properly. As a result, thermal heat signatures on the creature are impossible to collect, and Monarch detection crews conducted cardiograms via aerial satellite for life sign detection and verification. Much like the volcano that incubates it, Rodan is alive but dormant.

Data Update:

Ancient spirit tablets discovered in the mountain jungles of the Yunnan Province portray a giant winged alpha of the Lepidoptera order. In all of our findings, human civilization is pictographically shown in poses that imply deification of the so-called “Queen of the Monsters”, suggesting the creature was once a benign part of the natural order.

When Monarch containment crews discovered the live Titan chrysalis within the Chinese myth site, Dr. Emma Russell was quickly dispatched to closely monitor the creature that lay dormant within it. A quickening sonar pulse suggests the creature is awakening. If she ever emerges from her ancient slumber, a superspecies that once illuminated the sky will be reborn as Mothra.

Godzilla News: Is Vera Farmiga The Woman Who Controls The Monsters?

Vera Farmiga has opened up about her role in the upcoming "Godzilla: King of Monsters" revealing that her character may have a way to control the monsters in the film.

“I play a paleobiologist. She has figured out a way to communicate with the creatures and potentially control them using their bioacoustics on a sonar level. So she is like a DJ for the monsters.”

She also spoke about director Michael Dougherty and how he is in many ways a perfectionist wanting several takes to get a scene right.

I don’t mind it. Except for when there is cork being thrown at you and wind machines blowing down your ear and up your nostrils. I don’t mind it. I like to have as many takes. Of course, it depends on the film and the emotional output of the scene. It depends on a lot. But I am not really ready to talk about the film quite yet, because I have such a one track mind.”

The actress also expressed that in her opinion Godzilla was more than just the savior of mankind in the film believing that the monster was a champion for the environment as well.

“And ‘Godzilla’ to me isn’t a film about monsters. It is a film about saving the environment. When it comes down to it that’s what emerged to me off the written page, and so I find that there has to be a little parable in it that makes me interested.”

Though this little tidbit may get under the skin of some monster fans it should be noted that Godzilla movies have often taken on both political and environmental issues, most notably in the original "Gojira", "Godzilla vs The Smog Monster" and "Godzilla Vs Biollante".

This is great news! I really really really want this movie to be one of the best monster movies of all-time.

Last night saw Warner Bros. test screen a secret film, which turned out to be Godzilla 2 (not Aquaman).

Following the report from back in March which said Godzilla: King of Monsters was really great, now someone who went to the Godzilla 2 test screening says it's awesome.

A Redditor saw Godzilla 2 and said fans won't be disappointed and that it has awesome scenes.

"You won't be disappointed," user aemon123 said offering that fans will be "far more" satisfied with the monster action this time around.

The Reddit user didn't want to spoil things in the movie related to the final battle involving Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah, as well as if there is any Godzilla vs. King Kong set-up, but noted there are plot tie-ins with Kong: Skull Island.

The person also claimed "there are some awesome moments" when questioned about crowd-pleasing scenes in the flick.

As Godzilla 2 features a lot of monsters, how are the fight scenes?

"All the fight scenes were previs and yet, they were still spectacular. I imagine the final quality will be even better," it was said.

Likewise, the characters in the film are said to be definitely "more interesting" and that "it will probably be the best Godzilla film, tbh."

The Godzilla 2 test screening was also said to be filled with "nothing but great reactions."

The Reddit user echoes sentiments from back in March, which mentioned Mothra, Kong: Skull Island, Millie Bobby Brown and more.

"Acting and cinematography are really nice and even though the effects were not finished and some not even half-finished it looked really great," said a test screener. "I think you are going to like how much of the other creatures you are going to see in this movie [especially Godzilla]. For what I saw I'm very pleased and can honestly say it will probably be the most original from this universe and loved every single casting."

Godzilla: King of the Monsters has a May 31 2019 release directed by Michael Dougherty starring Vera Farmiga, Charles Dance, KyleChandler, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Sally Hawkins, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Ziyi Zhang, Ken Watanabe and Millie Bobby Brown.

The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species — thought to be mere myths — rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.”

It looks like someone has allegedly seen an unfinished print of Godzilla: King of Monsters and thinks that it is shaping up to be an amazing film.

"And it was really nice. It's really atmospheric, but I liked that even though I feel the movie is going to be long (not like the first, but still long) that it was going fast. There are many plot lines they started in the first 20 minutes. I can't say much, because of embargo, but can say that I'm really satisfied with the route they went. Acting and cinematography are really nice and even though the effects were not finished and some not even half-finished it looked really great. We are introduced to a family and the acting by every single one of them especially Vera Farmiga was great. It feels like continuation to the first and there are a lot of new characters introduced in the first 20 minutes. I think there was a cut in these 40 minutes like 15 minutes before it finished where I felt was the middle of the movie. O'Shea Jackson was good and I think you are going to like how much of the other creatures you are going to see in this movie :)(especially Godzilla). For what I saw I'm very pleased and can honestly say it will probably be the most original from this universe and loved every single casting."

According to the reviewer Mothra was really impressive:

"The effects for her weren't finished, but the design was something that I really enjoyed... If you remember this Enchantress thing in SS with this blackness that boils from here there is a similliar thing to Mothra here, but with something like yellow pollem. I don't if it will be in the movie, because as I said, the effects are not in their final form. I honestly don't know how she looked in the old movies, but just have heard of her and she looks like a huge,beautiful bug although she has that gritty look of the monsters like Godzilla and Kong. The hair on the wings looked really f-cking good, this was the thing that I really remember as a standout about the design and the colours too."

All this should be taken with a grain of salt of course, but if this any indication of what we can expect from the new film giant monster fans should be in for a treat.

Godzilla 2: First Set Photos ... More Monsters?

Filming on the sequel to Gareth Edwards amazing re imagining of Godzilla (2014) has been taking place in Atlanta now for just over two weeks and the first on set photos have leaked out. Not much can be seen in any of the pics, all they contain are images of Warner Bros trailers and cars in all sorts of disrepair. It's the usual collateral damage stuff that exists in every single giant monster movie since 1933 when King Kong decided that he didn't like the civilized world very much and went ... well ape.

GODZILLA II Night Filming from the scheduled Inman Village ParkWay shoot that happened two days ago.


According to bystanders and witnesses, there were a lot of thunderous noises, booms, and monster sounds emitting around the location. With cars turned over, flames roaring, and with debris scattered everywhere. And clearly from the glimpses of the set, it must have been quite the night!

Though somewhat interesting the real meat and potatoes that has been floating around the rumor mill is that Godzilla 2 (previously known as Godzilla: King of the Monsters) will feature some previously unannounced cameos by some more monsters from the Toho movie series. It has been rumored that Anguirus, Varan and Ebirah (yes the giant lobster) (Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah have been confirmed) will appear in some capacity in the film. These reports, of course, have not been confirmed but they certainly will make for chatter on the Big G message boards and fan sites.

It should also be noted that Godzilla himself reportedly will be getting a makeover to more resemble the traditional G designs from the Japanese movie series.

I have included some potential designs for Anguirus, Varan and Ebirah that include stamps from Legendary Pictures. Take these with a grain of salt though ... there are a ton of talented fans out there!

The Future of Monster Movies Looks A Lot Like Its Past

The film industry has been churning out creature features for as long as its been around. There’s something about a monster tearing through downtown Manhattan that packs people into theaters, transcending decades and generations. The filmgoers of 1933’s King Kong got the same pleasure from that movie as the people who caught Pacific Rim on opening weekend, with the only difference being the massive leaps in CGI and special effects. There’s a visceral appeal to seeing humanity’s pride get toppled by that rare creature above us on the food chain, and in a nutshell, that is what we get out of the genre.

What’s perhaps most interesting about all this is the fact that amidst all the growth and change of Hollywood, monster movies have largely remained the same spanning a 50 plus year tradition. The story behind the original King Kong: Humanity’s own hubris leads to their downfall at the hands of a monster they can neither control nor understand. Every installment in both the Japanese and American Godzilla films paints a similar picture, as well as just about every modern monster flick we’ve seen over the last decade.

Nowhere is this most evident than with the plans Warner currently has for the King Kong and Godzilla franchises. We’ve talked briefly in the past about the plans for the former, but since then, an even more ambitious undertaking has been proposed. Yes, King Kong: Skull Island is still happening, acting as the prequel for our favorite giant ape. Meanwhile Godzilla is getting a sequel, following a successful reboot effort that made over half a billion dollars. All this will culminate in the massive King Kong vs. Godzilla, acting as a sort of Avengers equivalent for movie monsters.

With Gareth Edwards returning to direct a sequel to this summer's Godzilla, it was always a film we were going to have to wait for. After all, Edwards' immediate attention is on a Star Wars spin-off movie that he's making next, which is expected to be released in 2016.

However, once he's done with Star Wars, it looks like he's hopping straight back onto Godzilla, as Warner Bros and Legendary have announced the film's release date. You can expect Godzilla 2 on June 8th 2018. It'll be a while, we suspect, until we get any more details on the film that that. More as we hear it, though...

Pacific Rim 2 & Godzilla Crossover Rumors Abound

There have been a few recent giant monster movies worthy of your attention, and two of those are Pacific Rim and the new Godzilla. Both films were incredible in their own rights, but what would make them better? Apparently, the answer to that question is a crossover between Pacific Rim 2 and the new Godzilla. Both films are within the same genre – monster movies – and both did quite well at the box office, so it would make sense to tie them in together at some point.

Legendary Pictures, at one point, admitted to the world that Godzilla and Pacific Rim would be completely separate from each other. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore, as new rumors have been spreading around the Internet, claiming the two will join together at some point in the near future.

The Movie News Hound reports that the success seen in Godzilla 2014 and positive reaction towards Pacific Rim 2 has Legendary Pictures considering a crossover between the two movies. Unfortunately, this type of crossover won’t happen until after Godzilla 2 and Pacific Rim 2 have concluded, so perhaps in a third film within one of the franchises.

The new Godzilla film earned around $93 million in ticket sales during its opening weekend, and another $103 million total in overseas markets. This makes it the best international debut this year, which Legendary is sure to capitalize upon in the near future with more films in the franchise. A lot of the sales came from IMAX theaters, where massive screens portrayed Godzilla in all his wonder. These theaters earned around $40,057 on average per showing.

A crossover would be plenty of confusing, as fans would be voting for both Godzilla and the Jaegers to win the ultimate battle. However, we desperately want to see this crossover happen, as it would combine two impressive films into one experience. Pacific Rim 2 cannot get here soon enough, then we can discuss the potential for a new film between the two in earnest.

Godzilla 2 Monsters: 'Skull Island' Writer Penning Script For Sequel, A Possible King Kong Vs Godzilla Crossover?

Max Borenstein is returning to writing duties for "Gozdilla 2". He'll also be writing the script for the forthcoming King Kong movie "Skull Island", leaving fans to speculate if the King Kong versus King Kaiju movie is a possibilty.

Godzilla 2 might well be on its way in production following Godzilla's success, who has passed $500 million at the worldwide box office.

But fans of the King Daikaiju are worried that the sequel may be delayed from its original plan after director Gareth Edwards announced his new spin off Star Wars that is due out in December 16, 2016.

"Ever since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life - join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited and honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm," Edwards said in a statement.

A legendary picture CEO Thomas Tull is however confident that Edwards' new film will not interfere with Godzilla 2.

"Gareth's filmmaking talent makes him one of his generation's most creative and visionary directors. The plan has always been for Gareth to direct a different film before we started on another Godzilla, but who knew it would be a Star Wars installment? We have a great plan in store for Godzilla fans and I am looking forward to seeing Gareth's imprint on the Star Wars universe."

Warner Bros. at San Diego's Comic Con announced that Gozdilla 2 was absolutely happening and will get on the sequel as soon as he finishes his Star Wars spin off.

Legendary Pictures and Universal also confirmed a King Kong prequel called Skull Island for November 4, 2016. Skull Island is rumored to feature a showdown between King Kong and Godzilla.

Additionally, the second installment has been confirmed recently at Comic Con where a short clip was presented showing three additional monsters to join the sequel. All three have appeared in previous Toho Co., Ltd. Films, largely responsible for Godzilla released in Japan.

Gareth Edwards Scores Godzilla 2, 3 ... and Star Wars?!!

Monsters director Gareth Edwards is now the most monstrous filmmaker in Hollywood.

In this article announcing that he’ll be getting behind the camera for one of three Star Wars spinoffs(!), they reveal that Edwards will be returning to direct not one, but two Godzilla sequels.

The site explains that while story ideas exist for the two Godzilla sequels, the Godzilla 2 project is still in early development and does not even have a script. But they are clear that Edwards is attached to direct both.

Produced by Legendary Pictures and released by Warner Bros., the monster movie reboot earned an impressive $93.2 million at the domestic box office this weekend. It also opened in most overseas markets, which added up to over $103 million, says Box Office Mojo.

Edwards is attached to direct one of the Star Wars spinoff films, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Gary Whitta (Book of Eli) is writing the script for the movie, which has a release date set for December 16, 2016, said Disney and Lucasfilm in a statement later posted on the official Star Wars website.

Due to the high level of secrecy surrounding the Star Wars development process, it is unclear which spinoff Edwards will tackle.

Speculation has focused on characters such as bounty hunter Boba Fett and Jedi master Yoda as those who might be getting their own movies. There are also rumors of a potential Han Solo origin story or at least something on the Solo clan, and untold adventures of Luke Skywalker.

"Ever since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life - join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited & honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm," said Edwards in a statement release after THR broke the news.

Gareth Edwards Teases 'Destroy All Monsters' for the 'Godzilla' Sequel

Bring on the Monsters! One filmmaker we're happy to hear more from via Comic-Con is Godzilla director Gareth Edwards, who came in to tease some kick ass footage from his new take on the monster movie. We live blogged the footage during the Warner Bros panel, but also Edwards spoke to press after and dropped in some big teases/hints as to what we're in for. In one discussion via ScreenRant, Edwards actually mentioned a Godzilla classic - Destroy All Monsters from 1968 where the big lizard fought just about everyone in a monster army. "I think multiple creatures make better movies in terms of the image of Gojira," he says.

Edwards at first spoke about the movie he's just wrapping shooting, and talks about the original design of the new Godzilla monster. "In a way we approached it was, imagine in 1954 (when the first Godzilla movie was made), that this creature really existed and someone saw him from Toho, the Japanese studio, and went running back to the studio and said, ‘I’ve seen this creature and it kind of looked like this.’ And they tried to draw it and they tried to make a suit and they did a very good job of it but then, when you saw the real creature, you go 'Okay, I totally understand how you got that suit from that creature but now I see the real thing. Oh my God, I totally believe that it’s completely real.' And that’s how we approached it." Make sense?

He says they "went through hundreds of designs, and never stopped playing really until the last minute and got to the point where it was like, ‘Is there anything else that we want to change about this design’? And I was like, personally no, I’m very happy with it. And Toho was very much a part of the approval process." So what about Destroy All Monsters? Well, the mention comes in an answer that Edwards gives when asked about where he could go and what he could do in a sequel, once they get this re-origin movie out of the way. We already know there's multiple monsters in the upcoming Godzilla for 2014 - we saw one in the footage at Comic-Con, and the synopsis hinted at a few others, but the more the merrier.
