Godzilla vs The Gryphon - Exclusive Art From Todd Tennant

Written By: Ken Hulsey

It has been quite some time since Todd Tennant has blessed us with some of his exceptional artwork from his "Godzilla 94" online comic based on the unused Sony movie script by Rossio and Elliott.

Though we had to wait quite some time, it was well worth it! Tennant has produced what can certainly be called on of his best pieces, an exclusive image of Godzilla taking on The Gryphon, in what will undoubtedly be a battle for the ages.

Look for more monster action in the upcoming pages of "Godzilla 94"!

Fans can also check out more of Todd's artistic skills in the pages of several titles published by Blue Water Comics, who publish a wide variety of books based on classic horror and sci fi franchises.

Roland Emmerich Proud Of Godzilla, Not Making Sequel

Many of us Godzilla movie fans look back at Roland Emmerich's 1998 re-envisioning of the classic Japanese movie monster and shake our heads. There was so much potential there. We often wonder why Tristar would opt to try and re-invent the monster, that is loved world-wide, instead of going with an American made film that featured the Japanese Godzilla? They had a perfectly good script along those lines in hand, yet they went another direction.

The rest is history, the new Americanized "Godzilla" was released upon us all. After a strong opening weekend, the film fizzled at the box office. Though the film didn't make as much as anticipated, it did bring in over $100 million, and rumors of a sequel began to be floated about. Those rumors soon faded and after a successful stint as a children's animated feature, GINO (Godzilla In Name Only), disappeared out of site only to make a brief appearance in the 2004 film, "Godzilla: Final Wars", where it got a proper ass-kicking from the 'real' Godzilla.

Though it has been over ten years since GINO ran like a track star through the streets of New York, there was always a chance that the monster may once again return, and like the people of Japan, we monster movie fans have lived in quite fear, hoping that the day would never happen.

Director Roland Emmerich has a new disaster film that he is about to unleash on the world, called "2012", and Movies Online interviewed him about the the film and his past projects. After talking quite a bit about "2012" interviewer Sheila Roberts brought up "Godzilla" and this is what Emmerich had to say:

Q: Godzilla is coming to Blu-Ray. What are your feelings about Godzilla today?

Roland Emmerich: I’m totally proud of Godzilla. I’m always saying this. I mean, I know there’s a lot of naysayers, but I’m proud of it.

Q: You had a great idea for a Godzilla remake at one point. Is that dead?

Roland Emmerich: That’s dead. I’m not a person for sequels. I just want to do something original. Once in awhile I plan or try to do something like a remake but then most of the time original stories just win out. And it has to be a good one.

If Emmerich is true to his word, then we have seen the last of GINO. Godzilla fans can now rest easy.

Todd Tennant To Return To Godzilla 94

Written By: Ken Hulsey

Todd Tennant has been very busy working on his "King Komodo" comic for G-Fan magazine as of late. However, he has just e-mailed about his returning to work on the online "Godzilla 1994" graphic novel. "G94" has been a real labor of love for Todd over the past few years. In fact the both of us have made several attempts at getting it published by a major comic book label.

That leads me to the little known fact that Todd has had some very preliminary talks with a comics publisher about getting either an artists gig or getting some of his work published. I don't want to say too much at this point. I don't want to jinx anything.

I think that I speak for all of us when we I say just how much I would like to see Todd's work featured as a monthly comic series.

Let's just wait and see, what becomes of all of this.

Just like George Lucas, our friend Todd Tennant just can't resist the urge to tinker with his movie projects. Now the talented comic book artist has added sound to his "Godzilla 94" trailer.

For those of you not in the loop, Todd Tennant has quickly emerged as one of the leading giant monter comic book artists over the past decade. Presently his work can be seen in the pages of G-Fan magazine and online at his "Godzilla 94" graphic novel website.

If Todd keeps this up, he will soon be able to make the Godzilla 94 movie that Tristar passed up on himself!

Todd Tennant's New Godzilla 94 Trailer

Lately our good friend Todd Tennant has had his "Godzilla 94" online graphic novel on sort of a temporary hiatus while he has been working on the "King Komodo" comic for G-Fan magazine. Well it looks like Todd has been staying up late at night cranking out a lot of new artwork as of late. He has even began to dabble in video as well. Todd has just completed a Quicktime trailer to promote the comic, and for his first venture into the medium it looks pretty slick. Todd explains, "It deals with 2 "looters" (roughly based on characters from the GODZILLA Rossio/Elliott screenplay) and their misadventures with the original American Godzilla. There is also a surprise guest appearance at the end."

There are also several examples of the original artwork Todd used to make the trailer on the site. As usual each of those is the kind of comic book masterpiece that we have come to expect from the great Todd Tennant!

Now, if we could only get a major comic book label to publish this stuff..... ?

King Komodo Returns To The Pages Of G-Fan

KING KOMODO RETURNS (to G-FAN)
By Todd Tennant

A brand new American Kaiju series TALES OF KING KOMODO by Mike Bogue and Todd Tennant of American Kaiju (http://americankaiju.kaijuphile.com/main.shtml) will soon be published in G-FAN magazine as a continuing feature there. TALES OF KING KOMODO won't necessarily be of an "alternative universe" nature, but rather sort of "side-stories" within the main KING KOMODO story's time-line, featuring the 3 basic stages of KK's atomic mutation.
