Those looking forward to Disney's INDIANA JONES 5 will have to wait just a bit longer to set out on another adventure with Harrison Ford's bullwhip-wielding rogue, as the studio has announced that the film has been moved from July 10, 2020 for a July 9. 2021 debut. As it happens, the film was supposed to shift into production in the United Kingdom in April of 2019, though scheduling conflicts and scripting issues seem to have "kalimaed" those plans. Never fear, though. Spielberg is still set to direct and Ford is reportedly looking forward to going on yet another dangerous mission as Disney plunders the series for more cash.

Furthermore, INDIANA JONES 5 isn't the only film from the studio that's being moved. As a part of the Indy announcement, the House of Mouse has also revealed that Dwayne Johnson's JUNGLE CRUISE will now set sail in theaters on Oct. 11, 2019, while Angelina Jolie's MALEFICENT 2 will cast a spell in cinemas on May 29, 2020. Furthermore, MARY POPPINS RETURNS starring Emily Blunt will now open on December 19th as opposed to its original Christmas Day release date.

Adjust your calendars as needed, and hold tight for when Disney reveals more about INDIANA JONES 5: THE SEARCH FOR MORE MONEY. Heh, that's not really what it's called, but I can't resist a good SPACEBALLS reference, and neither should you.

Steven Spielberg Hopes To Direct Chris Pratt In Indiana Jones Reboot

Here’s a good one to chew on as we head off to the pre-Oscar parties. Last month, I reported that Steven Spielberg wants Chris Pratt to anchor the rebirth of Indiana Jones that is being developed at Disney. It’s very early days, but my sources tell me that, assuming a script comes in to his satisfaction, Spielberg hopes to direct that film. He directed the first four with Harrison Ford as the swashbuckling archaeologist.

Indiana Jones 5 is apparently finally going to happen, after several years of false starts, bogus rumors and alleged new casting announcements. And it looks like it's cinematographer Janusz Kaminski we have to thank for having a part in revealing that production on the fifth installment to the beloved franchise could soon become a reality.

During a Variety expose on his career, it was flippantly reveled that Kaminski’s "next project is the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie." While this appears to have been thrown in to the article as almost a last thought, Indiana Jones devotees quickly latched on to the revelation, taking it as indication that the fifth film has finally been announced, and that we can all finally try to move on from the cinematic nightmare that was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. Harsh I know, but fair.

It’s been over six months since the latest rumors regarding an Indiana Jones 5 were circulated. At the time it was suggested that a young-upstart would replace Harrison Ford in the iconic role, and the likes of Bradley Cooper and Robert Pattinson were suggested as possible replacements for the world’s most famous archaeologist. Cooper would get my vote, but it would be with a heavy heart.

A full scale Millennium Falcon is being built at Pinewood, as some staff are being offered 7-year contracts, potentially to include Indy 5

Appreciating that there's no shortage of Star Wars: Episode 7 rumors doing the rounds, we've elected not to run the majority of them for reasons of, well, they don't sound too accurate. Likewise, we've been contacted by lots of people who claim to have insider scoops on what's going on, that we haven't run for similar reasons.

This one, however, seems to have more substance to it. It's come from a good, reliable source, and whilst it's still a rumour until all of this is confirmed, we're passing this one on because from what we can tell, there's something to this one.

There's been a security clampdown in the prop shop at Pinewood Studios, but we now understand that work is afoot on building a full scale Millennium Falcon there. Furthermore, model makers are also building lightsaber hilts. This would tie into reports that the emphasis is going to be on practical, rather than computer effects wherever possible with future Star Wars films.

Also, we now understand that model makers on the Star Wars: Episode 7 project are being recruited on up to seven year contracts, which cover three sequels and three spin-offs.

Harrison Ford Open to Returning to Indiana Jones

Even though Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was almost universally panned by the fans, leading man Harrison Ford won’t rule out a return to the character.

With rumors that he’s preparing a return to the Star Wars franchise as Han Solo, Ford’s other major Lucasfilm role came up for discussion during a new interview–and he had a pretty thoughtful answer for the question.

“We’ve seen the character develop and grow over a period of time and it’s perfectly appropriate and okay for him to come back again with a great movie around him where he doesn’t necessarily have to kick as much ass,” he told The Telegraph. “To me, what was interesting about the character was that he prevailed, that he had courage, that he had wit, that he had intelligence, that he was frightened and that he still managed to survive. That I can do.”

Of course, back when Disney bought Lucasfilm, they announced a new Star Wars trilogy but intimated that new Indiana Jones films weren’t high priorities for Disney.

Indiana Jones In The Bermuda Triangle?

In the last Indiana Jones movie, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull", aliens from another world and Russian spies replaced the Nazis as the hero/archeologist's main nemesis. Now, possibly, Dr. Jones will be tangling with the little grey men once again, in the Bermuda Triangle.

Rumors started popping up all over the place yesterday that a source close to the film had tipped off the New Zealand based movie website, Stuff, that Indiana Jones would be venturing to the mysterious area in the Atlantic where ships and planes seem to vanish without a trace. The informant also stated that filming was set to begin next year for a possible 2012 release.

That was yesterday, and now producer Frank Marshall has responded to these rumors via Twitter, "The rumor about INDY 5 is completely false. Nothing has changed, we are not shooting next year and still in the research phase..."

Read into that as you may, either the news was complete B.S., like Marshall says, or maybe the normally very reliable movie site landed a major scoop, and the producer is trying to do damage control.

Reportedly, "Indiana Jones 5" has been in this 'research phase' since September of last year, when George Lucas had made a few public statements where he seemed to bounce back-and-forth on the subject of whether Indiana Jones, or his son Mutt Williams, would be the main focus of the film.

Here is what George Lucas was saying at that time:

"I have an idea to make Shia the lead character next time and have Harrison come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie"

"The franchise really depends on me coming up with a good idea, and that series is very research intensive."

"So we're doing research now to see if we can't come up with another object for him to chase... hopefully we'll come up with something."

"Harrison Ford 'is Indiana Jones'. If it was Mutt Williams it would be Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis or something."

Kinda confusing stuff, but we are talking about George Lucas here, the same guy that thought that having Jar Jar Binks being a pivotal character in the "Star Wars" prequels was a good idea.

According to the report coming out of New Zealand, this film will be the ultimate send-off for Jones, a film that hearkens back to the original films with more action and less visual effects.

Now, I don't want to toot my own horn, but last year I speculated the either Atlantis, or the Bermuda Triangle.....or maybe both, would be the focus of the 5th Indiana Jones film.

Was I right?

Could be, but for right now Frank Marshall is saying no.

I'll try to pull another plot idea out of my backside and let's see if I can go two-for-two?

I'm going to say ......... hmmmm .......... instead of aliens in the Bermuda Triangle, it's Nazis again who became trapped there during the war. The Nazis have some special device or relic that could give them enough power to take over the world.

Is Hitler alive and well in the Bermuda Triangle?

Okay, that sounds a bit wacky, but it could work.

Only time will tell if I'm the Nostradamus of movie writers or not. I do have a pretty good track record to back up the title. In an article earlier this year I stated that I thought that the Gorn should be in the next "Star Trek" movie, then a few weeks later J.J. Abrams echoed the same idea.

From the moment that "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" reached the theaters back in 2008 there has been talk of a fifth movie in the hugely popular series. Along with all that talk came rumors that the Indiana Jones character may be about to pass on the family business to his son, Mutt Williams, played by Shia LaBeouf.

Those rumors were quickly squashed by the powers that be, but there has been some concern on the part of George Lucas on what exactly the famed archaeologist and adventurer could be questing after next.

No matter what that object, or ancient location, may be, Harrison Ford says that he is ready, with a catch, "The story for the new Indiana Jones is in the process of taking form. If the script is good, I'll be happy to put the costume on again."

Here are some quotes from George Lucas about "Indiana Jones 5":

On the heels of George Lucas's announcement that Shia LaBeouf will not be taking over the starring role in any future "Indiana Jones" movies, Harrison Ford has decided to add his two cents into the fray.

Sparked by the last scene in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" where LaBeouf's character, Mutt Williams, picks up the famous fedora worn by Ford, rumors have been circling that the imagery signaled a changing of the guard for the iconic film franchise.

Harrison Ford still insists otherwise, "No, that's never been (the idea)... I think it just doesn't work that way. And there's definitely a distinction between passing the fedora and someone picking it up."

Lucas himself added fuel to the fire by mentioning the possibility of Indiana Jones passing the baton onto his son in an interview back in May during a PR event for "Crystal Skull".

"I have an idea to make Shia the lead character next time and have Harrison come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie," Lucas said.

Lucas would later go back on those remarks, "Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones. If it was Mutt Williams it would be Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis or something."

According to George Lucas, Shia LaBeouf will not be taking the lead role in any future Indiana Jones movies.

Lucas had hinted in several interviews that a possible fifth adventure would center not on Harrison Ford's character Indiana Jones but on son Mutt Williams.

LaBeouf played Williams in this summer's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
But, in a television interview with AP Television, Lucas stated Harrison Ford "is Indiana Jones".
"If it was Mutt Williams it would be Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis or something," Star Wars creator Lucas added.

Lucas first mentioned the possibility of Indiana Jones passing the baton onto his son in an interview back May during a PR event for "Crystal Skull".

"I have an idea to make Shia the lead character next time and have Harrison come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie," Lucas said at the time.

But he now appears to have changed his mind.

"The franchise really depends on me coming up with a good idea," he said.
"And that series is very research intensive."

"So we're doing research now to see if we can't come up with another object for him to chase... hopefully we'll come up with something."

As the ending scene of "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" indicated, the senior Jones isn't ready to give up the family business just yet.
