Did you like the live action version of the "Flintstones"? Did you like the modern version of "Alvin and the Chipmunks"? Well then you should be even less thrilled to learn that Warner Bros has hired Ash Brannon to helm a brand new film about Jellystone Park's most favorite residents, Yogi Bear and his sidekick Boo Boo. The film will reportedly feature computer animation blended with live-action, just like "Alvin and the Chipmunks", and which will follow Yogi Bear's antics eluding his arch-enemy Ranger Smith. In other words, look for a CG Yogi and Boo Boo to star alongside a "real-life" actor as Ranger Smith in a film that takes place in the real world, and not a cartoon.
You would figure that after "The Flintstones" flopped they would have learned their lesson, then again it did make huge money over in Europe........?
Animation fans may remember that this will not be Yogi and Boo Boo's first big-screen movie. In 1964 Hanna-Barbera produced the animated feature "Hey There, It's Yogi Bear!" At that time it was the first film to be produced based on an animated television program.
In that film Yogi Bear (voiced by Daws Butler) and his pal Boo Boo (voiced by Don Messick) are shipped off to the San Diego Zoo by Jellystone National Park's Ranger Smith (voiced by Messick) who is tired of Yogi's "pick-a-nick" basket stealing. Yogi escapes and returns to the park. His girlfriend, Cindy, not realizing Yogi has escaped goes looking for him and is kidnapped by a circus owner. Yogi and Boo Boo sneak out of the park and travel across the country to save Cindy and bring her back home.
Look for Warner Bros. to release "Hey There, It's Yogi Bear!" on DVD December 2nd!
