It sure has been a long time since we heard anything about the 'live-action' Star Wars television series. Well sources are now reporting that George Lucas has begun the casting process for the series.
Recently actress Rose Byrne (Dorme in Episode 2) told MTV, "A lot of my friends have been auditioning for it."
The series has been in a state of flux since it was first announced way back in 2005. In 2007 it was revealed that Lucas and company were working on the scripts, but since then news has been few and far between. In many circles it was believed to have been put on permanent hiatus, and this new revelation seems to have come out of nowhere.
According to sources close to the production, Lucas plans to shoot the entire first season of the series before he looks for a network to air it. At this point the director is aiming for the show to air in 2011.
When Lucas first announced the series way back in 2005, he revealed the the series would take place between "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope". The story, according to Lucas, is to take place in the Star Wars universe, but wouldn't have anything to do with the core story. He also mentioned that the characters in the series would be unique, meaning that they would not come from any of the prior Star Wars films.
Don't be surprised if there aren't some cameos though.
