Why Blister is a must-listen for fans of indie pop | Yumi Zouma

Written By: Ken Hulsey

I’ve been meaning to share my thoughts on Yumi Zouma's latest single, “Blister,” but life got in the way! I’ve been a huge fan of theirs ever since I stumbled upon their album *Truth or Consequences* five years ago. Their song “Truer Than Ever” has been a staple on my Spotify hot list ever since—I just can't get enough of it!

With “Blister,” the band takes things to a whole new level, showcasing a grittier sound and attracting an exciting wave of new fans discovering their music. I even heard a critic describe it as a modern-day “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and the potential summer anthem of 2025! It feels like this track could finally be the breakout hit that propels the band into the international spotlight they truly deserve.

Yumi Zouma is a delightful alternative pop band from New Zealand. They got their start in Christchurch back in 2013, initially coming together as a home-recording project among three friends. Today, the band features a talented lineup including Christie Simpson on vocals and keyboards, Josh Burgess playing guitar, bass, vocals, and keyboards, Charlie Ryder on guitar, bass, and keyboards, and Olivia Campion on drums. Their journey is a beautiful example of friendship and creativity in music!
