Japanese filmmaker Shusuke Kaneko, renowned for his outstanding work on Gamera: Guardian of the Universe (1995), Gamera 2: Attack of Legion (1996), and Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris (1999), is clearly passionate about the possibility of reviving Gamera for modern audiences. Recently, during the Gamera Expo Event held in Japan at the end of November, Kaneko faced an emotional moment when actress Shinobu Nakayama delivered a heartfelt message from a dedicated fan. The fan's plea was clear: “I want Nagamine Mayumi to strongly convey this to the director and Kadokawa. Enough is enough! How long are we going to keep this up? How many years do you think it’s been since the Reiwa era began? Please make a new ‘Reiwa Gamera’ already!”
The response was electric, with fans erupting in applause, leaving Kaneko feeling both humbled and inspired. He took this moment to encourage everyone in attendance to hold onto their hopes and assured them that he would do his utmost to fulfill their wishes. As he wandered through the venue and explored the exhibits showcasing artifacts from previous Gamera films—his own included—Kaneko found himself increasingly motivated to embark on another Gamera project.
