The Odyssey of a Rock | Can You Find It? | Where Will You Relocate It?

Photos and Story by Ken Hulsey

A couple of days ago, I stumbled upon this delightful painted rock, which some call Kindness Rocks, in Alexandria. The moment I spotted it, I felt this irresistible urge to take it with me, knowing I had a mission to relocate it. So, during my adventures yesterday, I headed westward and figured, why not bring it along to Texas and leave it there for someone to find?

Now, here’s where it gets fun—if you’re curious about where this little treasure might be hiding, just refer to the clues in the photos I snapped. If you're lucky enough to discover it, the idea is to take it and then leave it somewhere else, hopefully a bit further afield.

This whole rock painting phenomenon reminds me of a time several years back when we lived in California. We once found a striking rock on a trail near Big Bear Lake. Naturally, we took it on our next trip and left it in Bakersfield. There's something so charming about the art of painting rocks—be it a lovely image or an uplifting message—and finding clever spots to hide or place them really adds a sprinkle of joy to the day!

You know what? I might just hop over to Hobby Lobby soon, grab some paint and brushes, and start crafting my own little masterpieces. Here’s hoping I can manage to resist the urge to throw them at people, because as amusing as that might be in theory, it probably wouldn’t win me any friends! Bring on the rock-painting adventure!
