DC: Next Level Continues Its 2026 Expansion With Zatanna by Jamal Campbell

DC is excited to share some fantastic news! In April, the beloved character Zatanna, brilliantly illustrated by Jamal Campbell, will be a key part of DC’s Next Level initiative. This ongoing project is all about showcasing adventurous, creator-driven comics that give fan-favorite heroes to some of the most dynamic talents in the industry. As we transition into the second act of DC: All In, these new launches will complement the major story arcs found in both our ongoing and limited series throughout the expansive DC universe as well as the Absolute universe.

 

Mark your calendars for April 29, 2026, because the first issue of Zatanna will be hitting the shelves! Our favorite magician, Zatanna Zatara, is about to set off on the adventure of a lifetime! As the newest and first Prime Magus in millennia, she carries the incredible responsibility of guiding and overseeing the realm of magic. With everyone watching her closely, the big question is: how will she manage such a monumental task? What challenges will she face as she confronts the shadows of forgotten lore? Rest assured, she’ll meet these challenges with her signature wink, a dash of flair, and a wealth of magical prowess!

Returning to the page is the talented writer and artist Jamal Campbell, known for his work on Superman and the earlier Zatanna: It’s Showtime series. After an illustrious run in 2025 with a limited comic series, he’s set to launch Zatanna into an exciting new ongoing adventure!

Zatanna #1 will feature an array of stunning variant covers, including open-to-order card stock options by the renowned Adam Hughes and Kyuyong Eom, priced at $4.99 US (with a main cover at $3.99 US and a luxuriously crafted foil edition at $6.99 US). There’s also a striking 1:25 incentive variant by Julian Totino Tedesco. Fans of Hughes will be delighted to find his cover available as an open-to-order foil edition too! To round out this impressive lineup, be on the lookout for a vibrant Next Level variant by Jorge Corona and a blank sketch cover for all the aspiring artists out there.
