Indeed the Music Box Theatre in Chicago is hosting week long festival of classic Universal Studios monster films beginning October 21st. All the usual creatures will be on hand including ... um ... The Creature, Dracula, Frankenstein, Mrs Frankenstein (okay they never really got hitched) The Wolfman and of course a Captive Wild Woman (you can't let em loose to roam the street!)

THE BLOODY RAGE OF BIGFOOT - New DVD Deal And Website

I just received an email from film maker James Baack stating that he has just signed a distribution deal for his film, "The Bloody Rage of Bigfoot" through Cheezy Flicks Entertainment, the same company that sells the Charles Pierce classic, "The Legend of Boggy Creek."

James didn't go into any details, except that the contract was inked on Wednesday, and that the deal would expand the availability of his Bigfoot horror movie that doubles as a psychological thriller.

In related news, Baack also passed along the news that his production company, Great Lakes Artists Group, a co-op between James, Steve Galayda, Ron Feyereisen, Tina Boivin, and his brother Paul Baack, had just launched a brand-new website. (Go Here)

The Great Lakes Artists Group is an association of Chicago-area artists,
filmmakers, musicians, and writers. Founded in 2006 by noted cryptozoological
artist and painter James Baack, the group focuses on creative expressions
representing the outré and fantastic side of reality. The group has recently
celebrated a team milestone with the release of its first motion picture, the
horror comedy The Bloody Rage of Bigfoot. The enthusiastic reception the film has received from fans of the genre has inspired the group to begin planning a follow-up feature, tentatively called The Sisters of St. Tommygun. Watch this site for news of further developments!

"The Sisters of St. Tommygun" film is a new one on me, I may Baack revealed to me that his next film would be "Orgy of the Damned", (originally titled, "The Uninvited Alien Invasion"). I guess we will just have to wait and see on that one.

Along with news and information about the groups upcoming film the site is also the new home of Satantha & Loosey-Fur's House of Sin, a sub-site that features actresses Andrea Hutchison and Tina Boivin from "Bloody Rage" and the proposed "Orgy of the Damned". The Trailer For 'The Mole Man Of Belmont Avenue' Has Crawled Up Out Of The Ground....To Make You Laugh

Many of you may not remember all the way back to last September when I published a little article about a brand-new horror/comedy that was written, produced, directed, and also stars two local Chicago area comedians, John Laflamboy and Mike Bradecich.

Remember that?

Okay, you are forgiven. In an entertainment rich environment, over-run with comedy/zombie movies and comedy/monster movies, it can be hard to keep them all straight. They do all seem to get jumbled together in our noggins making it hard to remember just which one is which.

Well, amidst all these movies, that seem to be the same movie with different actors, comes a film that, from the trailer, looks as if it may be very funny and very entertaining. I am, of course, talking about Laflamboy and Bradecich's movie, "The Mole Man Of Belmont Avenue".

What you have with "Mole Man" is a great collection of odd-balls who all live in a run-down apartment building together. There is a hooker with dreads, a guy who seems to wear a football uniform, complete with helmet,all the time, a crazy old lady who won't shut-up, the buildings two bumbling supers (Laflamboy and Bradecich) and Freddy Krueger.......okay, Robert Englund playing a crotchety old guy.

What is the problem with apartment building, besides nutty neighbors, you may ask?

Well, it seems that all of the residents pets are starting to disappear. Doesn't sound like that big of a problem, probably nothing to worry about. Ah, but there isn't a Korean restaurant around for miles.

Hmmm......maybe something more sinister is to blame? Maybe a Mole Man?

Enough of my banter, the film looks really funny, and Laflamboy and Bradecich, look a little like America's answer to Simon Pegg and Nick Frost......maybe a little too much like them?

In fact, I could easily see Pegg and Frost in this one. Well, maybe if it gets remade in the UK, or something.

Giant Monster Round-up - King Kong Escapes To Chicago And A Retro Monster Promotes Power Line Safety

I didn't think that either of these two bits would stand very well on their own, so I decided to combine them.

Avery Guerra just shot me an e-mail about a special screening of "King Kong Escapes" at the Portage Theater in Chicago this Saturday. The film will be part of a mini-festival being presented by Time Tunnel Toys that also includes "The Monolith Monsters", "War of the Colossal Beast" and "Van Helsing: The London Assignment."

If memory serves....I think that last one is actually a cartoon.

Anyway, "King Kong Escapes" will be shown at 4:00, but there will be a vintage toy show, and sale, that starts at 2. Admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for the kiddos.

That price is for all the films, not each, in case you were wondering.



I also wanted to mention a cool giant monster related advertisement from Canada that I discovered.

The commercial features a "Godzilla-like" retro monster, that gets too close to the power lines and meets his maker. As you guessed, it's about power line safety.

The bit was produced for Alberta's Joint Utility Safety Team by Calgary's Wonder Communications.

It seems that you need to keep your heavy construction equipment at least 7 meters away from the power lines......eh!

Not being familiar with the work of Ron Fitzgerald, I took the time to visit his website to learn more. Here is his bio off the site:

Mole Man wraps in Chicago

It’s not every day you hear about a film being made by co- writers, co- producers, and co- directors who are also co- starring in over sixty percent of their own film, a monster movie comedy titled The Mole Man of Belmont Avenue, which finished production late in July. But then again John Laflamboy and Mike Bradecich are not your everyday filmmakers, they’ve been making short films and music videos together for years and come from very rich theater and improv backgrounds, which anyone will tell you are founded in trust and creative collaboration.

The Mole Man of Belmont Avenue is quite possibly the first feature length narrative film of late to draw so extensively from Chicago’s rich pool of improv comedy actors and in fact both directors freely admit that nearly all of the roles were written specifically for each actor. With the help of local casting agency TP&R, the all star line up includes Susan Messing, Dina Facklis, Greg Hollimon, Brad Morris, Dan Jessup, and an improvised scene between TJ Jagodowski and Dave Pasquesi, sure to be cutting edge hilarity.

Synopsis:

Marion and Jarmon Mugg have never had to work very hard. They’ve never had much responsibility, and no one has ever put any expectations on them to perform or achieve, well… anything.

But two years ago their mother died, leaving them the brownstone apartment building that has been in the family since its days as a speakeasy during Prohibition. In that short time, their slacker ways have run the building into the ground. The tenants are moving out, no one but them and their friends drinks at the bar on the ground floor, and the building’s pets are going missing. If all that isn’t enough to make them sit up and take notice, there’s also a good chance that a monster is living in the basement.

“The Mole Man of Belmont Avenue” is a horror/ comedy that explores what happens when a terrible situation is dropped into the laps of the two people least equipped to deal with it. Ian Sattler To Be Special Guest At Chicago Comic Con

The special guests for G-FEST XVI are Kenji Sahara, who has appeared in more Godzilla films than any other actor, including the classics: King Kong vs. Godzilla, Mothra vs. Godzilla, and Destroy All Monsters; Robert Scott Field, who appeared in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah as android M-11; and August Ragone, one of the most authoritative historians of Japanese science-fiction and fantasy films.

G-FEST XVI will feature panel discussions with Kenji Sahara, August Ragone and Robert Scott Field along with fan movie historians. Robert Scott Field, our favorite android M-11 from Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991) will be returning for his tenth consecutive G-FEST this summer at G-FEST XVI in Chicago. G-FEST XVI will be held July 3-5.



Scott (as we call him) will be doing his usual double-duties as a celebrity guest and as Japanese translator for our special guest, Kenji Sahara.

G-FEST XVI will be held at the Crowne Plaza O'Hare with movie screenings to be held at the Pickwick Theater. The movie line-up is still being formulated at this time. As soon as they are finalized, an announcement will be made.

Films at the Pickwick Theater are $7.00 at the box office and cannot be pre-ordered. Room charges and parking are the responsibility of the attendees. (Parking for G-FEST attendees is $10.00 per 24-hour period.)

G-FEST XV News Release

North American Godzilla fans will be gathering July 4-6, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza O'Hare International in Rosemont, IL for G-FEST XV. The special guests for G-FEST XV are Haruo Nakajima, who portrayed Godzilla from 1954 to 1972 and actor Don Frye from Godzilla Final Wars. Other featured guest is actor Robert Scott Field of Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991).


G-FEST XV will be screening Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989) and Godzilla x Mechagodzilla (2002). As G-FEST falls on Independence Day weekend, a mini film festival will be held on Thursday, July 3 featuring Destroy All Monsters, Attack of the Mushroom People, Godzilla vs. Gigan and Orochi, The Eight-Headed Dragon. All movies will be screened at the Pickwick Theater in Park Ridge. Godzilla vs. Biollante is an exclusive screening for registered G-FEST attendees.


G-FEST XV will also have a giant dealers room, model instruction, video room, Godzilla video game tournaments, Godzilla Jeopardy, costume parade & contest, art contest, video contests and more. A feature-length documentary, Monsterland, will be filming at G-FEST by German filmmaker Jorg Buttgerheit.


Weekend admission tickets are $29.00 for adults, $10 for youth (12 and under). Daily admission (at the door) is $20.00 for adults, $5.00 for youths. Children 5 and under are admitted FREE.
