Sam Raimi is hoping to recapture some of the small screen magic that he had with "Xena Warrior Princess" by casting Lucy Lawless in his latest series, "Spartacus: Blood and Sand." Indeed the New Zealand born actress will be donning the leather once again in another mid-evil series created by the man behind "Xena", "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys", and the "Spider-Man" movie series.

This time around, Lawless will portray will play Lucretia, a Roman slave owner, opposite fellow Aussie actor Andy Whitfield.

"Spartacus: Blood and Sand" will premiere on the Starz cable network in January of 2010.

It was rumored back in November that Lawless would be reprising her Xena role in either a new series or movie based on the series. It appears that the actress's quotes at the time may have been an attempt to hint at this new Sam Raimi production.....or maybe she was just wishful thinking? Regardless, Lucy Lawless fans can look forward to seeing the actress in a similar series to the one that made her famous.

For now, Xena will remain dead.
