300 students at Yokohama National University were treated to a special screening of Mamoru Oshii's latest film "The Sky Crawlers." The film marks the director's first film in four years, following the success of both "Ghost in the Shell" and and its sequel "Innocence". Oshii was on hand for the screening and took part in a long question and answer session. He mentioned that wanted young people to be the first to see "The Sky Crawlers."
"Sky Crawlers" is adapted from a series of five novels by Mori Hiroshi, the story tells of a group of young fighter pilots involved in dogfight warfare and struggling to discover the meaning of life. The voice cast includes top names such as Rinko Kikuchi, Ryo Kase, Chiaki Kuriyama and Shosuke Tanihara. The movie is due to open in theaters on August 2 In Japan and game version for the Nintendo Wii is also due to be released this summer.
