For months now, you have heard me singing the praises of the film "Outlander", in which a visitor from space has to band together with a group of Vikings to recapture an escaped giant alien monster.
The tag line, "Beowulf Meets Predator", pretty much sums it up.
How cool is that?
Well the film has just recently finished up a limited theatrical release here in American and, last month, the UK.
The film won a ton of praise from the people who were lucky enough to see it in the theater, and now everyone will be able to see it on DVD, when it gets released tomorrow.
In conjunction with that release we have been sent a whole bunch of goodies, including four video clips and ten brand new photos from the film. In fact this article is on "multi-media overload!"
I doubt that you will be able to come away from this one without feelings all geeked up about the film.
Here is the synopsis:
709AD, a space craft streaks across the nights sky and crash lands in a Norwegian fjord. From its wreckage emerge, Kainan (Jim Caviezel) a soldier from a far away planet and a deadly alien stowaway, the Moorwen. Before he has a chance to track down the Moorwen, Kainan is captured by viking warrior, Wulfric (Jack Huston) and held prisoner in the local village led by King Rothgar (John Hurt).
Grudgingly accepted into the clan after saving Rothgar's life, Kainan confides in Rothgar's fiercely beautiful daughter, Freya (Sophia Myles), about his past.
As the Moorwen wreaks terror and destruction on neighbouring villages, the threat of conflict between the clans escalates and Kainan is called upon to kill the creature. Aware of their prey's strength, Kainan and Wulfric fuse his advanced alien technology with the Viking's Iron Age weaponry. Joining forces with the bloodthirsty Gunnar (Ron Perlman), they lead one last mission to seek out and slay the Moorwen.
In the face of the Viking's destruction, the tale of Kainan becomes legend.
OUTLANDER is directed by Howard McCain and co-written with Dirk Blackman, both of whom are currently scripting Brett Ratner's CONAN. The film was produced by Chris Roberts (LORD OF WAR, LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN) and Barrie M. Osborne (LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, THE MATRIX).
I ask again, "How cool is that?!"

ReplyDeleteHey Ken,
ReplyDeleteI don't know, after renting "Outlander" yesterday it really didn't leave much of an impression on me. It wasn't a bad film. It was interesting to watch and it certainly had a unique story concept... I can't put my finger on why but it just didn't inspire my feelings to be "all geeked up" the way a movie like "The Host", which my mind kept flashing to every time I saw the Moorwen, had.
