Our good friend, Norman England (The iDol, FEED ME, It's All Good) has finished up working on adding English subtitles to Yoshihiro Nishimura's (Tokyo Gore Police) latest Japanese cinematic splatter-fest "Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl."
Recently Nishimura spent some quality time on the set of England's latest sci fi film, "It's All Good", providing the director with invaluable assistance in keeping the production on pace.
It would only be logical that when it came time to add the subtitles to his film Nishimua would choose his good friend England. Though he is very fluent in both Japanese and, of course, English, the writer turned director found out that the process wasn't that easy.
England explains, "I spent the past week creating subtitles for directors Nishimura and Tomomatsu's upcoming film "Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl. " That was a load of work, but I enjoyed doing it. I spent two days at Nishimura's studio on the East side of Tokyo re-writing and adjusting the timing of the subs. Man! It's such precise work! My goal on this (as with other subtitling jobs I've done, including my own films) is to help the non-Japanese speaking audience get as close to the spirit of the film as is possible. Bad subs can, unfortunately, cause people to perceive the film as being no good, so I felt a great responsibility. "
"There were a few instances where there was just no translation that matched the wholly zany Japanese way of viewing the world. At those spots I would explain my approach to Nishimura and, after bouncing ideas around, came up with what I felt was something within the character of the film. Actually, those are my favorite moments when doing this kind of work. It's when I can get creative."
"Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl" is based on the manga by Shungiku Uchida about a young vampire girl named Monami (Yukie Kawamura) who tries to turn her High School crush into a vampire using a batch of cursed Valentine’s Day chocolates. When the boys jealous girlfriend, Keiko (Eri Otoguro of Onechanbara), tries to confront Monami about it, she is killed. Luckily for Keilo, her father is scientist with some interesting hobbies, who is able to put her back together, with some added improvements (Six Million Dollar Man style...I gather). As expected, Keiko seeks revenge, and the two girls battle to the death.....undeath?"Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl" will premiere on August 15th at Theater N Shibuya and Cinemart Shinjuku.
Norman England will be shooting another scene for "It's All Good" this upcoming weekend before diving into post-production.
