Trusting God or another person involves having confidence, security, and a sense of safety in that relationship. It means believing what they say and say is true. Trust represents the highest level of interpersonal connection.
In today's world, it can be challenging to place unwavering trust in people or institutions. Marketers relentlessly strive to earn consumer trust in their products. Politicians seek to cultivate enough public trust to secure votes. Meanwhile, spouses long to be trusted by their partners.
The Bible cautions against placing our full trust in other people, for they are inherently fallible. Humans will inevitably disappoint and let us down. In contrast, we can have unwavering faith that God will never betray our trust or abandon us.
Jeremiah 17:5 — This is what the Lord says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord.”
While we may place some trust in people at times, we should ultimately put our faith in God, not in the fallibility of human beings. It's natural to trust others who have proven themselves reliable, but we must be careful not to rely on them so heavily that we lose sight of our trust in the divine. Inevitably, even the most trustworthy person will sometimes let us down, whether intentionally or not. When this happens, it's easy to become disillusioned and even angry with God. However, the Bible teaches that our primary trust should be in the steadfast, unwavering nature of God's character, not the shifting sands of human relationships. While maintaining healthy trust in others is important, we must be vigilant to keep God at the center of our faith.
We can trust God completely, for He is entirely worthy of our faith. We should embrace all that He has revealed and surrender ourselves to His guidance without reserve.
I pray that these words bring you hope and inspiration today
