New Deal Keeps Xena: Warrior Princess At Dynamite

Dynamite Entertainment, a leading publisher of English language comic books and graphic novels, is proud to announce the extension of their publishing deal with NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products for comic books and graphic novels based on the Xena: Warrior Princess television series.

Xena: Warrior Princess was an hour-long action-adventure series created by John Schulian and Robert Tapert, a spin-off of the Hercules: The Legendary Journeys television series. Produced by Renaissance Pictures, the series followed the titular character's quest to redeem herself from past sins, as she dedicates her fighting prowess to the defense of the oppressed alongside the loyal farmer-turned-warrior Gabrielle. The Xena: Warrior Princess television series, filmed in New Zealand, premiered in September 1995 and concluded in June 2001, and ranked as one of the top syndicated drama series on American television.

The Xena: Warrior Princess franchise first expanded into comic books in 1997 with several series published by Topps Comics, including crossovers with their Hercules: The Legendary Journeys comics. Two years later, Dark Horse acquired the rights and published a fourteen-issue series. In 2006, Dynamite Entertainment acquired the rights, publishing Xena: Warrior Princess #1-4 (the "Contest of Pantheons" storyline) and a second series, subtitled Dark Xena. Also, two tongue-in-cheek crossover series materialized with Dynamite's long-running Army of Darkness series, as both Xena and AOD had roots at Renaissance Pictures and featured actor and cult film hero Bruce Campbell. In 2015, Dynamite reacquired the Xena license, publishing a new core series, an additional AOD crossover (subtitled Forever and a Day), and high-quality reprints of classic Xena comic books from the 1990s and early 2000s.

New Xena: Warrior Princess projects will be solicited in an upcoming edition of Diamond Comic Distributors' Previews catalog, the premiere source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies with their local comic book retailers. Xena will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, Madefire, and Dark Horse Digital.

When Xena And Wonder Woman Meet Geeks Go Wild

What happens when Xena meets Wonder Woman? Dreams come true, that is what happens. Seriously, dreams. Lucy Lawless and Lynda Carter together to make geeks everywhere (including me!) lose their minds.

Lawless, who is in New York City promoting WGN America's Salem, posed with Carter, TV's Wonder Woman who is in New York promoting her concert at Jazz at Lincoln Center, and let's just come out and say it: This photo is everything. Everythinggggg. Just like all the world has been waiting for Wonder Woman (according to her theme song), the world has been waiting for this photo.

Lawless played the title role in Xena: Warrior Princess for six seasons from 1995-2001. Carter was the Amazon princess in Wonder Woman from 1975-1979. The TV heroes had—and still have legions of fans and of course received quite a few comparisons.

"Xena" The Movie? Lawless Still Wants To Resurrect The 'Warrior Princess'

Back in 2008 actress Lucy Lawless made it public that she wanted to reprise the role that made her a fanboy....and fangirl....favorite, that of "Xena, The Warrior Princess."

Well her we are almost two years later, and Lawless is echoing the same desire to strap on the leather again. This time, however, the New Zealander doesn't think that reviving the series is the answer. No, Lawless thinks that it is time for a "Xena" movie.

The actress recently told reporters, "I love that character. I would do it if it was a movie. I doubt I would do it as a TV series. I can't see how you would make it fresh."

Just like before, Lawless understands that she isn't getting any younger, and the time may be now to get the ball rolling on any "Xena" related projects.

"By the time somebody does come up with that (a movie or new series idea) I'm just going to be too old. And I'm really sad about that. I feel like it's a completely wasted franchise."

Lawless may be feeling 'old', but you couldn't tell it by looking at her. Now, I haven't seen the show yet, but the actress is supposed to be very 'naked' in the cable series, "Spartacus: Blood and Sand", and reportedly she still looks great.

Frankly I agree with Lawless. If there are any plans for a "Xena" movie or series, then it should be sooner than later. Raimi and company certainly wouldn't want to make the same mistake the Chris Carter did by waiting too long to make "The X-Files: I Want To Believe".

Then again, it has been nine years since "The Warrior Princess" died in the final episode of the six year series.

Of course, as that episode dictated, some 20,000 human souls would be sent to Tartarus if "Xena" were to be brought back to life.

Don't know how you could make that work, if the film makers indeed wanted to make the movie 'canon' to the series.

Lets just hope that they don't go with an alternate universe "Xena"....or a clone...or something else like that.

Oh, God....I said it.........hope I didn't just jinx this?

Lucy Lawless Is Ready To Resurrect Xena Warrior Princess

Lucy Lawless has been hinting that there may be a relaunch of the fantasy series, "Xena Warrior Princess", sometime in the future. Lawless has also made it clear that she hopes the show will begin shooting sooner than later.

The last thing that the 40 year old New Zealander wants is to be replaced by a younger actress. Lawless recently told the press, "It'll have to happen fairly soon. If it takes much longer, they'll cast some 20 year old in the role and ask me to play the mother. I'd tell them to go to hell, or worse - I'd do it."

Continuing on with the story line from the original series may prove to be a little difficult. Fans should remember that the last time we saw the "Warrior Princess" she was.......well.......dead. Of course, this generally isn't a problem for a character in this series, both Xena and Gabrielle have been killed and brought back to life several times.

However, in this case, the death was meant to be permanent. As the finale was written, some 20,000 peoples souls would be at stake if Xena were to ever be resurrected.

I'm sure the writers will figure out some way to get around that. They always do.

Lucy Lawless fans won't have to wait for the launch of a new "Xena" series to see the actress on TV, she is scheduled to play a madam in an upcoming episode of "CSI: Miami".
