The scariest villain in the history of film is set to return to the big screen. Sir Anthony Hopkins is set to join director Sir Ridley Scott for his fourth Hannibal Lecter film.
Hopkins has played the deranged psychologist, turned serial killer, in each of the prior films in the series, including 2001's "Hannibal", the 2002 prequel "Red Dragon" and the original "Silence of the Lambs" in 1991, for which the actor won a Best Actor Oscar.
It is being reported that originally Jodie Foster had signed on to reprise the role of Clarice Starling, which she played in the original "Lambs", but has since backed out of the production, opting to step behind the camera, directing "Flora Plum" which stars Claire Danes.
In place of Foster, Cate Blanchett, has been named to play the FBI agent Starling (the inspiration for the Dana Scully character on the TV series X-Files), who has a unique relationship with the maniacally murderous Lector.
A spokesperson for Universal told reporters, "Hopkins and Scott are both very committed. We like what we've got, and the revised script is really, really good."
