There are always room in our hearts for good old fashioned low-budget cheesy monster movies and director Joel Trujillo has produced just that with his latest film "Serpent Lake." Now, you might think that by calling Joel's film 'low-budget' and 'cheesy' I was trying to sling some insults, but nothing could be further from the truth. As most of you know, I have a real 'soft-spot' for low-budget cinema, and I often applaud film makers who venture out and produce films in sometimes horrible conditions with little money in their pocket.
This time around I'm applauding Trujillo for having the stones to go out and make a lake monster movie, with a varied cast of more than colorful characters, that hearkens back to the great 'B' movies of the 50s, 60s and 70s.
Synopsis:
Every 30 years, in the summer there is a mysterious unidentified creature claimed to inhabit Astaire's freshwater lake in Minnesota.
Along with Loch Ness monster Nessie and Lake Champlain's Champ, this monster is one of the best-known mysteries of cryptozoology. Most scientists and other experts find current evidence supporting the creature's existence unpersuasive and regard the occasional sightings as hoaxes or miss-identification of known creatures or natural phenomena. Minnesotans believe in this legend, even though their theories may vary. The creature thought to be a plesiosaur being the most popular of these theories. But unlike Loch Ness or Lake Champlain, there is no canal linking Serpent Lake to the sea raising the question," Where does this creature come from? And during this time some people in or around the lake come up missing.
I'm happy to report that Tujillo has finished "Serpent Lake", and now has it for sale on DVD for $10.00 + S&H on his website - HERE
I'm also happy to report that the director has already begun production on his latest film called "The Sparrowman", which sounds a lot like "The Mothman", but I'm not going to judge.
Here are a set of exclusive images from "Serpent Lake":
