Photos and Story By Ken Hulsey
Last week, I stayed overnight in Shreveport because I had an early morning meeting in Bossier City. After the meeting, I decided to visit one of my favorite places in Shreveport, Riverview Park, which is located alongside the majestic Red River. The weather was pleasantly cool for a change, with a lovely layer of fog hanging in the air, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to stretch my legs and take some photos of the area.
Surprisingly, there were only a few people enjoying the cooler temperatures. However, I've visited this park numerous times in the past, and I rarely see many visitors, which is a bit sad since it's such a beautiful spot along the water. One of my favorite features of the park is a lovely waterfall. I enjoy sitting on one of the rocks, listening to the soothing sound of the running water. It reminds me of the rushing rivers I used to hike by in the mountains of New Mexico. There’s truly nothing as relaxing and refreshing as that sound. When you combine it with the scenic view of the Red River, it creates a very calming atmosphere.
Taking advantage of the serenity, I found a quiet spot to say a quick prayer, thanking God for the blessing of being able to enjoy such sights and sounds. It's a true blessing to have moments like this. Life can sometimes rush by too quickly, and I often have to remind myself to seize opportunities like these and savor them, while also being grateful.
The park also offers great views of both the Long-Allen Bridge and the Kansas City Southern Railroad Bridge spanning the Red River. It is nestled right between the two, and as luck would have it, a freight train began crossing the bridge just as I approached it. This was the cherry on top for someone like me, who is both a photographer and a train enthusiast.
I hope this inspires you to visit Riverview Park in Downtown Shreveport. I know you will enjoy it!
