D.J. McKinney rushed for two touchdowns, and Scottre Humphrey added a touchdown run as New Mexico defeated Nevada 24-22 on Saturday night. This marked the Wolf Pack's fifth consecutive loss.
Quarterback Jack Layne completed 14 of 22 passes for 138 yards, without throwing any touchdowns or interceptions, and he contributed 71 rushing yards on eight carries for New Mexico (4-3, 1-2 Mountain West Conference). Humphrey recorded 13 carries for 58 yards, while McKinney rushed for 39 yards and caught three passes for 43 yards.
McKinney opened the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run, concluding a 16-play, 75-yard drive that made the score 7-0 with 7:16 left in the first quarter. The Lobos extended their lead to 14-3 when Humphrey scored on a 1-yard touchdown run after an impressive 91-yard drive that took 11 plays, with only 6:51 remaining in the first half.
Nevada (1-6, 0-3) failed to convert on a fourth-and-1 play during their opening drive of the second half; Caleb Ramseur was stopped for no gain at the Wolf Pack's 32-yard line. Just four plays later, McKinney scored again with a 22-yard run, bringing the score to 22-12.
Luke Drzewiecki rounded out the scoring with a 29-yard field goal.
