David Tennant and Billie Piper are to return for the blockbuster celebrations, with John Hurt also confirmed.
Source: BBC
The BBC has today revealed some of the all-star cast that will mark the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. David Tennant and Billie Piper will join current Doctor and companion, Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman, while John Hurt (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Alien, Harry Potter) will also co-star.
Last seen as the Doctor on 1 January 2010, this will be the first time Tennant has reprised his role as the Tenth Doctor. During his reign as the Time Lord, Tennant appeared in three series as well as several specials. He was first revealed as the Doctor in the 2005 series finale, The Parting Of The Ways.
Meanwhile Billie Piper, who played companion Rose Tyler for two series following the reboot in 2005, will appear in the show for the first time since featuring in Tennant’s last episode, The End Of Time in 2010.
Also confirmed to join the cast is John Hurt, who will also co-star in the 3D anniversary special that will form part of blockbuster celebrations, set to take over the BBC. Produced by BBC Cymru Wales for BBC One, the 50th anniversary will be written by Steven Moffat and Directed by Nick Hurran.
Filming for the 50th anniversary starts this week. Meanwhile, a brand new series starts on BBC One today (30 March) at 6:15pm for a run of eight epic episodes, which officially introduces the Doctor’s newest companion, Clara Oswald, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.

Three New Images From FRIGHT NIGHT

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Walt Disney Studios / Dreamworks

Disney has just released three brand new pics from their remake of "Fright Night" which is due out this summer. Unfortunately none of these feature every ones favorite Doctor, David Tennant as Vincent. I know that will make a few of you, and you know who you are, rather miffed.

Regardless, they do feature Colin Farrell and Anton Yelchin which will make others very happy indeed.

Here's the synopsis from the Mouse Factory:

Senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all going on: he’s running with the popular crowd and dating the most coveted girl in his high school. In fact, he’s so cool he’s even dissing his best friend. But trouble arrives when Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there’s something not quite right—but everyone, including Charlie’s mom (Toni Collette), doesn’t notice. After observing some very strange activity, Charlie comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on the neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself in this Craig Gillespie-helmed revamp of the comedy-horror classic.

Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) is a high school senior who’s on top of the world—that is until Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door and Charlie discovers that he is a vampire preying on the neighborhood.

And here are the photos with descriptions and legal stuff:

John Simm Promises That Tennant's Doctor Will Get A 'Brilliant Send-Off'

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: BBC News

Actor John Simm, who plays the Doctor's long-time nemesis, The Master, in the upcoming two-part Christmas special, reports that the episodes are now completed. The holiday airing of "Doctor Who" will mark the end of David Tennant's run as the iconic sci fi character. Tennant, who replaced Christopher Eccleston after just one season as the Doctor, has become a fan favorite and has virtually made the character his own. But worry not fans, Simm promises that Tennant's "Who" will get a "brilliant send-off".

Simm recently told BBC news, "It's all done. I've just spoken to David (Tennant) and he hasn't seen it either. We're doing some dubbing and we go in and do the voice-overs.

"Hopefully we'll see a bit of it then. I'm looking forward to seeing it. It was a great script and we had such fun doing it.

"It'll be a brilliant send-off for Mr Tennant. Last time I did it (in 2005) it was such fun to do. It was wonderful to be asked back and to be in the very, very last one.

"To go head-to-head with him was a real honour. It was lovely to be asked. It was a great, great experience. We had such fun doing it. Hopefully it'll come across."

Details about the episode, which reportedly will be called "The End of Time", have been kept relatively secret, though details about the cast were leaked some time ago. Alongside Tennant will be actress Catherine Tate, who will reprise her role as the Doctor's companion Donna Noble, former companions, Billie Piper (Rose Tyler) and Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith), John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness), Camille Coduri (Jackie Tyler) and Timothy Dalton as The Narrator.

Of course, at the end of the special, Tennant's Doctor (the 10th) will regenerate into the 11th Doctor played by Matt Smith.

Here are some photos to hold you off until Christmas:

Sarah Jane is acting very suspiciously. When Luke, Clyde and Rani investigate, with the help of Mr Smith and K-9, they discover something unexpected – Sarah Jane has a boyfriend and she’s going to marry him! The First Look At The Animated Doctor Who From Dreamland

Source: BBC

The BBC today releases the first image of the animated Doctor as he will appear in the new animation, Dreamland, which is due for broadcast later this year.

The six-part series will be premiered via the BBC Red Button on BBC One and the Doctor Who website (bbc.co.uk/doctorwho).

The 45-minute long animation will be broadcast in its entirety on CBBC on BBC Two this Autumn and also on the BBC HD channel.

Written by Phil Ford (Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures) Dreamland will see the Doctor – played by David Tennant – arrive at the infamous alien hot spot, Roswell.

During a visit to a local diner he stumbles upon a mysterious alien artefact that leads him on a mission to rescue Rivesh Mantilax from the threat of the Viperox and the clutches of the American military.

Joining David Tennant will be Georgia Moffett (Doctor Who, Spooks) in the role of Cassie Rice – the Doctor's new animated companion.

David Warner (Wallander, Hogfather) also stars as the leader of the ruthless Viperox.

In the run up to the animation, fans will be able to visit the Doctor Who website (bbc.co.uk/doctorwho) to follow a behind-the-scenes production blog on the making of Dreamland, giving the opportunity to follow the progress of the animation as it develops.

Dreamland was commissioned by BBC Drama Multiplatform and will be produced for the BBC by Brighton-based animation company Littleloud.

It is being executive produced by Russell T Davies, Julie Gardner and Piers Wenger, with Gary Russell as director.

Russell T Davies said: "Dreamland is a remarkable project and I'm thrilled with it. Phil Ford is a wonderful writer and promises to send the Doctor into a whole new visual dimension."

Rosie Allimonos, BBC Drama Multiplatform Commissioner, said: "I‘m extremely excited about Dreamland. It presents an amazing opportunity to expand the multiplatform storytelling potential of Doctor Who.

"To offer the ability to watch this brand new Doctor Who animation on so many different BBC platforms is a real treat for our audience."

Richard Deverell, Controller, BBC Children's, said: "This is a wonderful addition to the already fantastic portfolio of CBBC programming. Having talent like Russell T Davies and Phil Ford at the helm of this project will no doubt ensure it captures the imagination of CBBC viewers."

Award-winning channel CBBC also further reinforced its commitment to British animation as it announced that online portal Cartoon Works is expanding to become a new destination to premiere short-form content from the UK animation industry.

CBBC has also commissioned brand new animation Muddle Earth, based on the much-loved children's books by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell, and Shaun The Sheep returns to screens this Autumn in a series of new exploits.

BBC Red Button has provided interactive services on digital TV for the past 10 years and is now reaching an average audience of 11 million viewers a week accessing a whole range of BBC content.

It provides audiences with access to the latest News, Weather and other general information, while also enabling the delivery of an enhanced experience across major sporting and entertainment events.

Doctor Who star David Tennant has joined the show's executive producers Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner in Los Angeles to post their regular 'radio postcards' to BBC Radio Wales listeners.

In the latest 'postcard', to be heard in the Radio Wales Jamie Owen and Louise Elliott show today (Friday 7 August, from 9.00am), David relives his "Robbie Williams" experience of being mobbed at a fantasy convention, and tells how his agent had her photo taken with several of his 10th Doctor lookalikes.

On Monday (August 10), in the same programme, David, who has been in San Diego taking part in the massive ComicCon convention with Russell, Julie and Doctor Who and Torchwood director Euros Lyn, will tell listeners how he fared at his first Hollywood audition.

The Jamie and Louise show, which receives regular updates from Russell and Julie in Los Angeles, can be heard live outside Wales on the BBC iPlayer and through bbc.co.uk/radiowales, or, if you miss the programme, the 'postcards' can be downloaded from the same website.

Doctor Who: The Waters Of Mars - Sneak Preview

Source: BBC

The BBC has just released the first official synopsis for the upcoming "Doctor Who" special "Waters of Mars". It's pretty short, but it does give an indication what we will be treated to in the episode:

David Tennant returns as The Doctor in The Waters Of Mars, the second of four Doctor Who specials being screened on BBC One this year. He is joined by his cleverest and most strong-minded companion yet, Adelaide, played by acclaimed British actress Lindsay Duncan.

Adelaide is head of the Mars Base and doesn't take kindly to an uninvited appearance by The Doctor. Peter O'Brien, star of Neighbours, Flying Doctors and Casualty, also guest stars as Ed, Adelaide's second in command.

The Waters Of Mars is written by Russell T Davies and Phil Ford and is directed by Graeme Harper.

I have also included the trailer plus some photos that have been circulating around the net:

Euros Lyn To Helm Doctor Who Movie For 2011?

Plans for the upcoming big screen "Doctor Who" movie will reportedly be 'officially' announced at this years San Diego Comic Con. Reports also suggest that "Torchwood: Children of Earth" director Euros Lyn will be introduced as the man that will helm the project at the convention as well.

It was leaked in late May that "Doctor Who" fan favorite, David Tennant, had signed on to star in, what is reported to be, a series of movies based on the hugely popular television series.

As a matter of coincidence, Tennant, Lyn and "Who" helmer Russell T. Davies were already scheduled to appear in San Diego. Euros Lyn to promote "Children of Earth", and Tennant and Davies to promote the BBC America showings of the new "Doctor Who" specials.

Since "Doctor Who" has become an international sensation during it's latest incarnation, it would only stand to reason that the BBC would choose such a high profile venue, as the San Diego Comic Con, to make their plans known to the world media.

Eddie Murphy Insists He's Not The Riddler

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: WENN

For months now rumors have been swirling about which villain, or villains, will be in Christopher Nolan's follow-up to the ubber successful "The Dark Knight" entitled, "Gotham." Riding right along with these rumors have, of course, been speculation on who will portray these bad guys, or girls.

Oddly enough, the most interesting of these has comedian Eddie Murphy putting on the green tights as The Riddler. As ridiculous as that my sound, the rumor just won't go away.

Now Murphy himself has come forward to try and squash the whole thing. Although he doesn't think that he would make a good Riddler, he does think that he could play another classic Batman foe.

Murphy explains, "I've heard that rumour as well and I don't know anything about it. Whoever is really playing The Riddler is sitting at home calling his agent going, 'We've got to get this rumour stopped.' I would love to be in one of those Batman movies. Jim Carrey did The Riddler once and he did a wonderful job. Egghead, I could be Egghead."

Murphy hasn't been the only one attached to the role. Johnny Depp has also been tagged to play The Riddler. Yet another name that has surfaced recently is none other than "Doctor Who" star David Tennant.

Along with the list of potential Riddlers is the list of potential Catwomen. That list, which is pretty long and seems to be always getting longer, includes Cher, Angelina Jolie, Rachel Weisz and Kate Beckinsale.

You have to remember that these are only rumors at this point. So far Nolan's camp hasn't released anything concrete on who or what is going to be in "Gotham."

It will be Christmas in July for American fans of the UK television series "Torchwood" and "Doctor Who" when the network brings the latest episodes from both shows to our shores.

On July 20th, the highly anticipated third season of "Torchwood", entitled "Torchwood: Children of Earth" makes its HD premiere. Amazingly enough, the show has no official air date in the UK, as of yet.

Tennant's Doctor Making The Move From TV To Big Screen

It seems that David Tennant is making sure that his incarnation of The Doctor will continue on despite his leaving the popular UK television series. It appears that the actors decision to leave the show last year may have just been an attempt to clear his schedule so he could star in a series of Doctor Who movies.

Hot on the heels of the news that Tennant's Doctor would be making a special appearance on the spin-off series, "The Sarah Jane Adventures", comes a report from Britain's Daily Express stating that the actor is well into negotiations to star in a movie based on the "Doctor Who" television series.

Their unnamed source explains, "The script is still in the early stages but David wants to be in the film. There have already been discussions and David needs to feel the story is right but right now things are looking very positive."

"He understandably wants to go off and do different roles but he still loves "Doctor Who." If the film takes off and there's demand for more, he can continue to play the Doctor occasionally without having the pressure of the relentless schedule that the TV series demands."

Tennant announced in October he would be stepping down from the role after three years as the time traveller, passing the baton to newcomer Matt Smith.

These new "Doctor Who" films will not be the first big screen exploits of the infamous Time Lord. Peter Cushing played the Doctor in the 1965 film "Doctor Who and the Daleks", and it's 1966 sequel "Daleks' Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D."

In the 1970s an attempt was made to produce a "Doctor Who" movie starring Tom Baker called, "Doctor Who and the Scratchman." That film came close to production, but funding fell through at the last minute.

Doctor Who fans are in for a treat this Autumn as David Tennant makes a special appearance as The Doctor in CBBC's hit drama series The Sarah Jane Adventures with a starring role across two episodes.

Investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith, one-time companion to that strange wanderer in time and space known as The Doctor, is reunited with her old friend as The Sarah Jane Adventures is back for a third series of alien-busting adventures on CBBC this September.

Elisabeth Sladen, who plays Sarah Jane, says: "When I heard the news that David was going to be joining us I was absolutely over the moon. Not only has it made my day but it will also make the viewers' day.

"It's fantastic news that Sarah Jane is going to spend some time working with The Doctor again and is testament to just how successful this CBBC series is."

Russell T Davies, Executive Producer of The Sarah Jane Adventures, adds: "Viewers thought they may have to wait until November for the next full episode of Doctor Who, but this is an extra special treat.

"And it's not just a cameo from David – this is a full-on appearance for The Doctor as he and Sarah Jane face their biggest threat ever."

The series includes 12 weeks of brand new adventures featuring a new alien race, the reptilian Veil and their enemies the Judoon, alongside an extraterrestrial girl that can make people play games against their will.

There will also be a living painting, the inhabitants of a supposedly haunted house, monsters who want to infect Earth with a strangely aggressive weed and a chance for Sarah Jane to find personal happiness with someone who could be the perfect person to complete her family.

Alongside adopted son Luke, Sarah Jane's team is made up of Luke's streetwise pal Clyde Langer, their schoolmate Rani, who lives opposite and has aspirations to become a journalist like Sarah Jane, and Mr Smith, their Xylok supercomputer up in the attic, plus Sarah Jane's robot dog, K-9.
