The Ducks have made an interesting move by acquiring left wing Chris Kreider along with a 2025 fourth-round pick from the Rangers. In exchange, they sent center Carey Terrance and a 2025 third-round pick the other way. This trade allows Anaheim to get back a fourth-round selection that they had previously given up in a deal for Jacob Trouba back on December 6, 2024.
For their part, the Rangers are gaining a third-round pick from Toronto, which they initially secured from the Ducks in the trade for Ilya Lyubushkin on February 29, 2024. Ducks General Manager Pat Verbeek expressed enthusiasm about the addition of Kreider, saying, “Chris Kreider is the type of player we were looking to add this offseason. He has size, speed, and is a clutch performer who elevates his game in big moments. Chris also upgrades both of our special teams units, something we really needed to address.”
Kreider, a two-time NHL All-Star, has consistently been a standout performer, ranking among the elite with at least 149 regular-season goals and 24 playoff goals over the last four seasons, alongside stars like Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid. Since the 2021-22 season began, he has led the NHL in shorthanded goals with 13 and stands fifth in power-play goals with 58, just ahead of renowned players like Alex Ovechkin and Auston Matthews.
In three out of the last four seasons, Kreider has scored 30 or more goals and has hit the 20-goal mark in ten different seasons. Since entering the league in the 2012-13 campaign, he is the only player to achieve 300 goals and ranks 10th among all NHL skaters in total goals since his debut. He's also the Rangers' all-time playoff leader in goals, having tallied an impressive 48 goals and accumulated 76 points across 123 postseason games, playing a pivotal role in leading the Rangers to the 2014 Stanley Cup Final and four Eastern Conference Finals.
Kreider, a formidable 6-3, 230-pound forward, has compiled a total of 326 goals and 582 points, with a solid +121 rating and only 575 penalty minutes in 883 career NHL games with the Rangers from 2012 to 2025. Within the franchise, he ranks highly, co-leading in power-play goals and securing a top spot in other key categories. In the 2024-25 season alone, he contributed 22 goals and 30 points in 68 games, earning recognition as an alternate captain for the seventh consecutive year.
