Written By Ken HulseySince my wife and I made the big move away from the beautiful West Coast, we’ve really had to adjust to life without some of our favorite California comforts. One of the things I miss most is the incredible food diversity that was just a short drive away. The selection of restaurants was a food lover's paradise, tempting us with everything from Thai and Indian to Chinese and Japanese cuisines, not to mention a smorgasbord of Mexican delights. And if you were in the mood for something classic, an authentic Italian meal or a perfectly cooked steak and baked potato was always just around the corner.
But out of all the mouthwatering options I used to enjoy, Hawaiian food holds a special place in my heart. Unfortunately, here in the South, it’s been a challenge to find anything that even comes close. My cravings kick in at the thought of Chicken Katsu, Kalua Pork, or even a simple but satisfying Spam Musubi, paired with sides of creamy Macaroni Salad, fluffy White Rice, and crunchy Cabbage. For those of us who have enjoyed the flavors of California, it’s clear that if you’re craving authentic Hawaiian food, Ono Hawaiian BBQ is the place to be!
And let’s not overlook Spam Musubi—essentially the Hawaiian take on sushi. Imagine a slice of Spam nestled on a bed of rice and wrapped snugly in seaweed; it may sound unusual, but trust me, it tastes amazing! Founded in 2002, Ono Hawaiian BBQ has established itself as a beloved family-owned fast-casual restaurant that proudly serves authentic Hawaiian Plate Lunches and an array of island specialties.
