Campers Have A Strange Experience While Camping At Mt. Baldy | Was It Bigfoot? | Tales of the Unexplained
Written By Ken Hulsey
Just before Thanksgiving, a woman, her teenage son, and two nephews drove up to Mt. Baldy in the mountains above Claremont, California, for an overnight camping trip. She was somewhat concerned about camping relatively close to civilization, fearing that criminals might be in the area. However, it turned out that thieves would end up being the least of her concerns, as an unknown and mysterious visitor was lurking nearby—possibly something not human.

MOMO The Pumpkin-Headed Missouri Monster | Cryptid Creatures of the Mississippi River | Local Myths and Legends

In 2009, a filmmaker who called himself Count Zee contacted me about a movie he was making. The film focused on MOMO, a local legend in Missouri about a Bigfoot-like creature with a pumpkin head that terrorized the area near the Mississippi River in the early 1970s. At the time, I was happy to provide publicity for his movie project, as I was already involved with several independent projects featuring monsters and local legends. A film about a giant, pumpkin-headed Sasquatch was right up my alley.
A California Monster Mystery: The Buena Park Monster | Local Myths and Legends

For over a decade, I have been writing about sightings of Bigfoot-like creatures in and around Southern California. As a general rule, these encounters have taken place in rural, mountainous, and even desert areas. Many of them occurred in secluded locations, while others surprisingly happened in populated areas adjacent to those mountains, forests, and deserts. It seems that Bigfoot wanders into neighborhoods from time to time, probably in search of food.

As they called out the girl’s name, the stillness of the woods was interrupted by a series of ominous tree knocks. Amber jokingly commented, “Oh hey, it’s Bigfoot!” However, her husband and cousin were not entertained and continued their search.
Why We're Still Looking for the Loch Ness Monster
Written By Ken HulseyThe legend of the Loch Ness Monster has captivated imaginations since the Middle Ages, but it wasn't until 1933 that this enigmatic creature caught the world's attention. That year, a striking report of a sighting made waves across the globe. In May, the Inverness Courier published an eye-catching story about George Spicer and his wife, who, during a scenic drive around Loch Ness, noticed something extraordinary gliding across the water. Spicer described it as “the nearest approach to a dragon or prehistoric monster that I have ever seen in my life.” This became the first time a sighting was referred to as a monster, coining the now-famous title: the Loch Ness Monster.

Tales of the Unexplained - Are Lizard Men Living Among Us?
As most of you already know, I have an incredible fascination with monsters and strange creatures of lore, mythology, cryptozoology, television and of course movies.
Now today I was planning to write an article about one of the lesser known cryptids that have been seen all over the world, Lizard Men. My article was going to focus on the history of sightings here in California, and their possible link to the lost continents of Mu or Lemuria.
Mu and Lemuria are basically the Pacific Oceans' very own versions of Atlantis, to make a long story short.
Now, you may think that this is some sort of coincidence, but while I was skimming through the news on Google this morning I came across a story about a Lizard Man written by J.S. Holland for Louisville Mojo.
That's weird that I came across a story about Lizard Men on the very same day that I was going to write my own.
Some of you may say that this was some sort of fate, a cosmic connection, others will simply dismiss this as randomness. I however believe that all things happen do to plan, whether that be by God's plan or not.
Now to get to the meat of the J.S. Holland piece. It seems that way back on October 28th, 1878, there was an article in the Courier-Journal (Louisville) about a scaly "Wild Man of the Woods" that had been captured and put on display.
When one generally hears the term, "Wild Man", images of a Sasquatch or Bigfoot normally comes to mind, this creature, however, was far different. According to the original article, this strange being was about 6-foot-tall, with large eyes, and covered with scales.
This strange lizard-like humanoid was reportedly displayed in Louisville for some time before, like the "Minnesota Ice Man” and the Bigfoot captured by railroad employees around the turn of the century in Canada, it disappeared never to be seen again.
I should be noted that 'hoaxed' newspaper stories were very popular in the 1800s. Articles concocted to stimulate the public and boost newspaper sales. The more wild and unbelievable the better. However, according to Holland (I didn't read the article myself) the 1878 story in question was treated rather matter-of-factually despite its outlandish subject matter.."
Does that add any credence to the validity of the article? Probably not.
Regardless, this 1878 account of a "Lizard Man" is not unique, not on a worldwide scale, or even for the American south.
In June of 1988, a sixteen-year-old boy named Christopher Davis was attacked by a 7-foot-tall, scaly monster, while changing a flat tire near the Scape Ore Swamp in South Carolina.
The "Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp" (also known as the Lizard Man of Lee County) reportedly tried to attack the youth's car as he tried to escape.
In the following months after the attack other local residents reported sightings and other attacks on vehicles. Seems this "Lizard-Man" wasn't much of a car buff.
Reports of the creature, and sometimes creatures, continue to this day in the area, the latest being reported in 2005 and 2008.
Other areas of the country that seem to be home to lizard-like humanoids include Loveland, Ohio (The Loveland Frog), Thetis Lake, British Columbia, Canada (Thetis Lake Monster) and also here in my home state of California.
Is there really a race of "Creature from the Black Lagoon" like "Gill-Men" living in obscurity in North America?
Good question?
Though these things aren't seen with near the regularity of the Sasquatch or Bigfoot the reports may be worth some investigation.
Local legends of lizard-like races come from various periods of human history. There is the Cecrops, the mythical first King of Athens who was half-man-half-snake, the Dragon Kings of Chinese mythology, the Nāga in India and the Zahhak, a figure from Zoroastrian mythology, just to touch on a few.
One of the predominant theories about these creatures is that they are extraterrestrial in origin ( an aliens race from another world). Indeed there have been numerous reports of lizard-like aliens emerging from UFOs.
Many authors about UFO encounters have postulated that these guys are here to start a colony, but if that's true then they have either been really slow about it or they are already living here.
Food for thought for now though I do promise to write about all the California "Lizard Men" sightings as time permits.
Is there more here than meets to eye?
Tales of the Unexplained - The Rougarou Roams The Bayous of Louisiana
Now that I have left California and its insane cost of living and rising crime rates for the land of God fearing, level headed folk here in Louisiana I thought that it would be in my best interest to find out just what kind of creatures are lurking in the bayou that runs literally a stones throw from my front door.
According to reports, there be werewolves about.
In the swampy bayous of the south, the beast is known as the “rougarou” or the “loup-garou.” The legend of the wolf-man like creatures began centuries ago in France. The tales arrived in the states with French immigrants and evolved over time.
The swamp creature is said to stand seven to eight feet in height, is covered in wet brown and black tangled hair and has glowing red eyes along with large canine-like teeth. The original monster was thought to have been born from a mutation. Victims might suffer the same fate if bitten by the beast or upon being cursed by a witch.
Today, the rougarou is one of the most popular characters of Bayou folklore. However, as wolves are not indigenous to Louisiana, the creature is now thought to be a shapeshifter that transforms into various common animals. Regardless of the form he takes, the creature is no less dangerous.
The story of the Rougarou was often told to children in an attempt to keep them from wandering or to make them behave. However, the tale prevails and many adults continue believing in the creature’s existence. After Hurricane Katrina, some heard strange growling sounds during the night, which led people to believe the monster may have left the swamps and entered the city of New Orleans via the flood waters.

Searching For Bigfoot In The Bayou State Of Louisiana
Today I had the pleasure of meeting up with Craig Woolheater (the founder of the wonderful cryptozoology website Cryptomundo) and several other Bigfoot researchers at Chicot State Park. Craig ventured out of his home state of Texas and joined us here in the swamp to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his life-changing sighting of a Bigfoot in 1994 near the town of Bunkie in Avoyelles Parish (LA).
I couldn't pass up an opportunity to meet fellow enthusiasts and find out more about Craig's encounter since Bunkie is literally fifteen minutes down the road from my home in Lecompte (LA). It also didn't hurt that I have known Craig for several years and I was once a contributor to his website.
Here is Craig's published report of the sighting:
"My ex-wife (girlfriend at the time) and I were driving back to Dallas from New Orleans. We had started out at 9 pm. I was driving my 1991 Isuzu Amigo, and the top was rolled up because the weather was nice. We had been traveling between 2 1/2 to 3 hours at 75 mph. We were approaching Bunkie. At this point, we were on an unlit 2-lane highway, Highway 71. On the left side of the road, it was very swampy, to the right 25 to 30 feet from the edge of the road, was the tree line.
As we were driving at approximately 75 mph, we saw an upright figure off to our right in the headlights. We both saw it as we passed and exclaimed simultaneously, "Did you just see what I saw?". We both agreed that we had and I asked her, "What do you think that you saw?". She said, "It think I saw a Bigfoot." I wanted to immediately turn around and go back. She did not as we were in an open convertible. There was a friend of ours asleep in the back seat, who slept through the entire incident.
As we passed it, it never seemed to detect our presence. At least that's the way it seemed because it never turned or even flinched as we went by.
We drove for 10-15 minutes until we came to a small church in the country and pulled in to talk about what we had seen. We discussed it for ten minutes or so and got back on the road to Dallas.
DESCRIPTION: We saw the backside of the creature, as it was traveling in the same direction that we were. We estimated its height at 7'. It was covered with hair and in the illumination of my headlights, it appeared to be gray in color. It was walking and it was slumped over in the front."
Besides being able to hear about Craig's encounter first hand the event provided the opportunity for several of us to share our own stories and brain-storm about possible future expeditions, town hall meetings (where people could feel comfortable about sharing their own sightings) and even a documentary in the future. The idea of even expanding future investigations to other paranormal phenomena such as hauntings and UFOs was also touched upon but that may be getting way ahead of ourselves. Regardless, there was a consensus that local researchers should get together in the future to work on Bigfoot related projects.
This is where I would like to put forward an open invitation to anyone who has seen Bigfoot or any other unexplained creature here in Louisiana to respond to this article or contact myself through this website. The reason for this call for information is to help compile a database of local sightings for future articles, research, expeditions and possibly the documentary I mentioned earlier. These reports can of course be anonymous if you wish and no reported sighting will be published without consent.
My kudos to Mark Daniels, Eden Boudreaux, Courtnye Ann Frederic, Valerie Bamburg Guice, Elise Orr. Sasquatch Ethology Society, The Ladies of Louisiana and Mississippi for making this event possible.
New Report Finds Bigfoot Prefers These Eight States
In the world of Sasquatch sightings, not all states are created equal.
That’s according to a new ranking of the best spots in the United States to get a glimpse of Bigfoot, which the Travel Channel compiled based on “never-before-released data” gathered by the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization.
Washington is where Bigfoot hunters are most likely to lay eyes on the legendary creature, the Travel Channel says, and it’s the No. 1 state on the list.
“With a whopping 2,032 sightings and counting, this is the world’s most active region,” according to the Travel Channel. “The most popular places to catch a glimpse include the Blue Mountains, Okanogan County — or better yet, Ape Canyon — the locale of one of the most aggressive Bigfoot encounters ever recorded.”
Next on the list comes California, with 1,697 reported sightings of the hairy beast, followed by Pennsylvania, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Oregon and Texas with 806 sightings.
“East Texas, especially the areas that border Oklahoma and Louisiana, is the site of countless Bigfoot reports each year,” the Travel Channel ranking said.
But those aren’t the only states where Bigfoot is rumored to be on the prowl: There are towns in North Carolina that boast Bigfoot museums, festivals and more, The News & Observer in Raleigh reported last year. One town in the Bigfoot-crazy state has even named the cryptid its “official animal,” the Charlotte Observer reported.
“Who is to say what’s out there?” Bob Boyette, town manager in Marion, N.C., told The Observer. “Nobody knows for sure, and there are some smart people who are convinced it’s real.”
There are international sightings, too — including an instance of Yeti tracks reportedly discovered just last month by India’s army in Nepal, according to the Observer. (Skeptical Indian media outlets panned the reported find as “deeply, deeply embarrassing” for the army.)
The Bigfoot-tracking information the new ranking relied on included 23,000 sightings across the U.S., and it amounts to “the world’s ultimate Sasquatch database of compiled sightings and testimonies,” according to a March blog post leading up to the release of the Travel Channel’s new show “In Search of Monsters.”
The series airs Wednesdays at 9:00pm ET/PT, according to the Travel Channel. Bigfoot was featured in the first episode, the blog post said.
