The BBC is reporting that Nicole Kidman has signed on to both produce and star in the 20th Century Fox production, "The Eighth Wonder", an action adventure based on an actual archaeological discovery. This not the first time that Kidman has been tapped for an action role of this type. She was originally slated to star in the 2005 action comedy, "Mr and Mrs Smith", which was written by Simon Kinberg, who will be lending his writing skills to "The Eighth Wonder" as well.
It is not too uncommon for so-called beauties to be turned into action stars. Fans may remember that Gena Davis did a lot of "bad ass" stunts in the 90's, starring in "The Long Kiss Goodnight" and "Cutthroat Island". Now I doubt that we will see the stunning Miss Kidman blasting people with a machine gun, chirping out out one-liners like "Asta la vista baby". It is more likely that her role in "Wonder" will be similar to Nicolas Cage's character in "National Treasure." Although putting Kidman in a bikini with a really big gun would probably fill more seats.
Kidman may not be typical action star, but as long as they keep casting her in films, they will keep getting my eight dollars.
