Hot on the heels of Ghost Hunters wrapping its most successful season to date, SCI Fl today announced an expansion of both the hit paranormal franchise as well as the Channel's partnership with Craig Piligian's Pilgrim Films and Television. The multi-part deal includes a sixth season of Ghost Hunters, a second season of Ghost Hunters International and a six-episode order of the recently announced pilot Ghost Hunters: New Generation [working title]. In addition, Pilgrim will develop an entirely new series for the Channel with an eye toward a 2010 premiere.
Since debuting in 2004, Ghost Hunters remains one of cable's hottest shows. In season four, an average of 2.8 million viewers tuned in each week to catch the latest spine-tingling cases from the files of TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society), led by Rhode Island plumbers Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson. The series also consistently delivers high ratings among female and younger viewers, averaging all-time Channel highs this past season among Females 18-49, Females 25-54 and Adults 18-34.
Its popular spin-off, Ghost Hunters International, has attracted an average of 2.3 million viewers since its January 2008 debut and will return to the Channel for a second season.
The paranormal adventures will also continue with season one of Ghost Hunters: New Generation, featuring a group of college students (led by seasoned investigators) investigating haunted hotspots around the country and around the world.
As previously announced, brand new episodes of Ghost Hunters International will debut January 7, 2009, and Season 5 of Ghost Hunters will premiere in March 2009.
Ghost Hunters, Ghost Hunters International and Ghost Hunters: New Generation are produced in association with Craig Piligian's Pilgrim Films and Television (Dirty Jobs, The Ultimate Fighter, My Fair Wedding). Piligian and Thomas Thayer, along with Rob Katz and Alan David, serve as executive producers.
