Today the Month of Monsters takes a relaxing train ride with Rasputin and Sasquatch ...
This film has the Orient Express, The Yeti, Zombies, Alien Possessions, Rasputin, Count Dooku, Grand Moff Tarkin, Kojak, and a big train wreck, what more could you ask for? - MIN
Horror Express was a Spanish production directed by Eugenio Martin. It was filmed in Madrid in the years 1971-1972, a low budget film ($300,000) with the luxury of having three familiar genre actors in the lead: Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and Telly Savalas. The film was co-produced by American filmwriter/producer Bernard Gordon, who had collaborated with Martin on the 1972 film Pancho Villa (which also featured Savalas in the title role). The filmmakers used both the miniature train and interior train set from Pancho Villa for Horror Express. The challenge was that they only had one set to be used as an interior train car. All of the scenes for each train car had to be shot at once, then the set would be rebuilt as the next car.
Securing Lee and Cushing was a coup for producer Gordon, since it lent a certain atmosphere reminiscent of Hammer Films, many of which starred both of the actors. However, when Cushing arrived in Madrid to begin work on the picture, he was still distraught over the recent death of his beloved wife, and announced to Gordon that he could not do the movie. With Gordon desperate over the idea of losing one of his important stars, Lee stepped in and put Cushing at ease simply by talking to him about some of their previous work together. Cushing changed his mind and stayed on.

A Space Zombie Trailer Invasion!
Sources: Robert Hood / Avery Guerra
Everyone knows that your deadliest zombies come from outer space as this collection of trailers from two brand-new films will illustrate.
First up is a really cool retro film from Germany of all places. Film maker Martin Faltermeier drew upon B movie craze of the 1950's as the inspiration for his latest film "Zombies From Outer Space." Though the first trailer may look like it, the film is not a remake of "The Sound of Music".
Here is the plot:
Bavaria in the late fifties. One day the life of Maria, a young girl, changes when she stumbles upon the dead body of an woman. Scientist Dr. Robert Hölzlein and the American lieutenant John Welles, stationed in Bavaria, are commissioned to solve what is obviously a murder case. But trouble seems inevitable as both are interested in the beautiful Maria.
As more and more dead women are discovered in the area, along with mysterious sightings of unidentified flying objects, fear and mistrust grows among the inhabitants.
While inspecting a crop circle Lieutenant Welles finds a dead alien, and an autopsy of the strange corpse leads Hölzlein to a terrible conclusion. Too late he discovers the connection between the dead women and the inexplicable UFO visitations. Before he can alert the population, however, undead aliens rise from their tombs beneath crop circles throughout the district, their aim to destroy humanity. Will the two rivals, Robert and John, realise in time that their only chance for survival is to work together?
Das ist gut ya?
Not quite as retro but as equally gonzo is the fourth installment of Ted V. Mikel's "Astro Zombie" franchise "Astro Zombies: Invaders from Cyberspace." It seems that the blood-thirsty zombies from another world weren't too happy that their kinsmen were thwarted by a group of buxom women so they set out to invade the Earth ... starting in Germany.
What is it with Germany?
99 Düsenjäger
Jeder war ein großer Krieger
Hielten sich für Captain Kirk
Das gab ein großes Feuerwerk
Die Nachbarn haben nichts gerafft
Und fühlten sich gleich angemacht
Dabei schoss man am Horizont
Auf 99 Luftballons
Guten Tag!

Celluloid Philosophers - Shaun And Ed

Ed: Any zombies out there?
Shaun: Don't say that!
Ed: What?
Shaun: That!
Ed: What?
Shaun: The zed-word. Don't say it!
Ed: Why not?
Shaun: Because it's ridiculous!
Ed: All right... are there any out there, though?
[looking out of the letter-box, he sees an empty street]
Shaun: I can't see any. Maybe it's not as bad as all that.
[he turns his head and sees a pack of zombies]
Shaun: Oh, no, there they are.
- Shaun (Simon Pegg) / Ed (Nick Frost) - Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Bonus:
Ed: What's the plan then?
Shaun: Right.
[cuts to dream sequence]
Shaun: We take Pete's car, we drive over to Mum's, we go in, take care of Philip - "I'm so sorry, Philip" - then we grab Mum, we go over to Liz's place, hole up, have a cup of tea and wait for this whole thing to blow over.
Ed: Why have we got to go to Liz's?
Shaun: Because we do.
Ed: But she dumped you!
Shaun: I have to know if she's all right!
Ed: Why?
Shaun: Because I love her!
Ed: All right... gayyy... I'm not staying there, though.
Shaun: Why not?
Ed: If we hole up, I wanna be somewhere familiar, I wanna know where the exits are, and I wanna be allowed to smoke.
Shaun: Okay.
[cuts to dream sequence again]
Shaun: We take Pete's car, go round Mum's, go in, deal with Philip - "Sorry, Philip!" - grab Mum, go to Liz's, pick her up, bring her back here, have a cup of tea and wait for this whole thing to blow over.
Ed: Perfect!
Shaun: No, no, no, no, no, wait, we can't bring her back here.
Ed: Why not?
Shaun: Well, it's not really safe, is it?
Ed: Yeah, look at the state of it.
Shaun: Where's safe? Where's familiar?
Ed: Where can I smoke?
[Shaun and Ed pause then slowly make a realisation]
Shaun: [cuts to dream sequence a third time] Take car. Go to Mum's. Kill Phil - "Sorry." - grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How's that for a slice of fried gold?
Ed: Yeah, boyyyeee!
[Shaun and Ed clang their weapons together]
Shaun: They still out there?
[Ed checks, revealing two zombies scratching at the window]
Ed: Yeah. What you think we should do?
Shaun: Have a sit down?

Ted Mikels' Grindhouse Reunion - Vegas Style!
Written By: Ken HulseySource: Ted Mikels
This coming April the Las Vegas Palms Casino & Resort will be filled to overflowing with the cream of the B movie crop when legendary cult film maker Ted Mikels brings his "Grindhouse Reunion" to 'Sin City'.
The venue will serve as the perfect showcase for Mikels' latest film, "ASTRO ZOMBIES M3:Cloned" which will screen for the first time at the event.
Here is the press release posted by Mikels:
On April 26, veteran Hollywood film-maker Ted V. Mikels will unleash his latest gang of demented mutants on a new generation of grindhouse movie fans in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"Where better to have a world premiere for ASTRO ZOMBIES M3:Cloned than in one of the most glamorous locations in the world?" asked Mikels.
"The mutant clones are going totally first class this time!" The iconic horror movie-maker is best known for his 1971 film, The Corpse-Grinders. He also filmed the first zombie movie ever shot in color – the original ASTRO ZOMBIES in 1969, starring John Carradine and Wendell Corey. Mikels is also well-known for creating unusual promotional activity surrounding the release of his films, and this event will prove to be no exception.
TVM Global Entertainment has announced that the premiere is being billed as the Ted V. Mikels' Grindhouse Reunion. Mikels will treat his grindhouse fans to two pre-release director's cuts, offering them a double feature on premiere night. The world premiere of Astro Zombies M3: Cloned will open the show, followed by Mikels' 2009 film Demon Haunt.
"Not only will most of the cast and crew from AZM 3 be there in person, but we are expecting guest appearances at the theatre from many of my actors and production people from both yesteryear and this year," said Mikels. Fans can expect to catch a glimpse of AZM 3 stars Fletcher Sharp and Donna Hamblin, along with such veterans of Ted Mikels films as Francine York from Doll Squad, Tura Satana, from the original Astro Zombies, and Shanti, from Corpse Grinders 2 and Demon Haunt. "Plus the very talented artist who scores my music, as well as the fellow who built the original corpse-grinding machine, and many others," said Mikels. "It will truly be a Ted V. Mikels Grindhouse Reunion!"
The TVM Studios world premiere event is scheduled for 7 PM on Monday, April 26 at the 14 screen Brenden Theatre inside the Palms Casino & Resort. The theatre is located at 4321 West Flamingo Blvd, Las Vegas, NV. To learn more about the Brenden Theatres, where the audience is the star, visit http://www.brendentheatres.com

Ted V. Mikels Is Still Making More Astro-Zombies
Written By: Ken HulseySources: Ted V. Mikels / Avery Guerra
Veteran cult movie maker Ted V. Mikels is presently working on a new Astro-Zombies movie called "Astr-Zombies M3: Cloned." The film is the third in series that started way back in 1968 with the original "Astro-Zombies" which starred John Carradine, Wendell Corey and Tura Satana.
In the original film, a unemployed scientist tries to get revenge on the space agency who fired him by creating a army of super-human monsters from the remains of murder victims.
Mikels produced a direct-to-video sequel in 2002 called, "Mark of the Astro-Zombies", the film once again starred cult movie icon Tura Satana.
The director is just beginning the process of filming the third film in the series, but as he explains he is also consolidating his studios and transferring his older titles onto digital format.
"I'm moving my sixty years of movie-making collectibles , 35mm cameras and editing equipment, fifty tons of other stuff,( 'DUMPSTERIZING" MUCH OF IT), into new archival headquarters, demanding my full time and attention for at least another six weeks, and at the same time shooting on my newest movie 'ASTRO ZOMBIES M3::CLONED'."
Mikels is also a bit disgruntled that the press and fans alike aren't paying more attention to some of the other films that he has produced over the years.
"Seems that so many folks prefer to talk about my ASTRO or CORPSE movies. What about my other 400 credits in a non-stop attack on movie-making for sixty years? Like STRIKE ME DEADLY, THE BLACK KLANSMAN, THE DOLL SQUAD, TEN VIOLENT WOMEN, MISSION:KILLFAST, HEART OF A BOY, ETC."
Indeed sixty years is a long time, and Mikels has a point, he has worked on hundreds of other films besides "Astro-Zombies."
Mikels doesn't want to give anything away about his latest project as of yet, in fact he really won't be getting into full-swing with the project until about mid August.
The only thing that I know about the film is that model and actress Sara Dunn has been cast in the film. Most of you would know her from the syndicated television series, "Cinema Insomnia" where she stars alongside horror host Mr. Lobo. This should be a huge thrill for Sarah, because she will be starring alongside her idol Tura Satana.
The busy film maker was kind enough to take a couple of minutes out of his schedule to send us two teaser posters and a scouting video for "Astro-Zombies M3: Cloned" plus the trailer for his original "Astro-Zombies":

Onechanbara English Subtitled DVD

Okay, I know all you girl crazy Japanese movie fans have been foaming at the mouth waiting for your chance to see Eri Otoguro running around in her little bikini and cowboy hat killing zombies and having sword fight with Chise Nakamura in her little school girl uniform. I'm right there with you.
Yesasia now has the Chinese DVD of the film for sale, and yes it comes with English subtitles. (click the link above)
I know "Onechanbara" isn't on the same plain as "Citizen Kane", but what could be cooler than a hot Asian girl, dressed in a red bikini and wearing a cowboy hat, killing zombies with a katana?
Plot:
Based on the popular PS2 game series, feature film OneChanbara (a.k.a. Chanbara Beauty) brings the adventures of sexy slayer Aya to the big screen in all its katakana-wielding, zombie-slicing glory. Written and directed by Fukada Yohei, OneChanbara stars three pin-up idols in the leading action heroine roles. Up-and-coming siren Otoguro Eri (Shutter, Shaolin Girl) cuts fine form as the feisty heroine Aya, slashing her way through the movie in the character's signature cowgirl attire - cowboy hat, cowboy boots, long scarf, and a bikini. To defend her city, she has to take on a quickly multiplying army of zombies that was raised from the dead by a mysterious scientist. Aya is joined in the fight by biker chick Reiko (Hashimoto Manami) who is out to avenge her father's death and Aya's half-sister Saki (Nakamura Chise, Swing Girls) who suddenly shows up in a schoolgirl uniform with a saber of her own.
Still not sold, check out the trailer below:
